Chapter 254: My Worth
I trusted, if that was the word to use, Raguk to handle things properly, the way he wanted to. I wouldn’t want someone to interfere with the way I did things, and I tried to extend that courtesy to the other males.
"I believe I have dismissed you," said Raguk, clearly not caring that this woman was a princess. Huh. Did that make him higher or lower on the food chain? "Leave. Now."
The female Uugazt ignored Raguk and instead turned her wrath toward me.
Maybe she thought I was the lesser evil? The easier kill? I wasn’t overly sure. One thing I did know was that this was not going to turn into a catfight.
I had never really understood the term catfight. Oh sure, I knew what it meant, but that was really not what happened. If it was a physical fight, then it would look a lot more like two chickens fighting each other, trying to peck out each other’s eyes, or pulling out hair. And if it was a verbal match, well, what animal made a high-pitched whiney noise?
And they always seemed to be over a guy... which brought me back to my original point: I knew my worth. I would never lower myself to fight for a guy that was not worth it.
If the male wasn’t interested in me, starting a fight over him was not going to change his mind.
If he was interested in me, then I shouldn’t have to fight to keep him.
But if someone was encroaching onto my territory, trying to take something that was mine... Well, fighting like two chickens was not the way I would go. No, if I was planning a murder, it would have to be something that she never saw coming.
"As the captain of this ship, I am telling you to depart," I said slowly and calmly as if I wasn’t wondering what it would feel like to slip a blade between her ribs. Did she have the same anatomy as a human? A vivisection would be able to provide me with both the answers I wanted and a way to torture her. "Actually, why don’t you stay a while?"
I smiled at the female in front of me, almost unable to contain my glee. As a forensic anthropologist, my specialty was dealing with bones that were under 50 years old postmortem. That meant that while I have attended more than my fair share of autopsies, I had never been able to participate in the dissection of a living subject before.
She raised her eyebrow at my request but didn’t say anything more.
"Would you like to get something to eat?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. What I really wanted to say was, ’Come into my parlor, said the spider to the fly.’
"You lack the manners even an offspring is born with," said the female, clearly not interested in my offer. Oh well, there was more than one way to skin a cat.
I blinked as I stepped back, my thoughts turning more than a bit murderous as I thought about all the ways I could skin her.
I felt a thick arm wrap itself around my waist, and I was pulled back into a rock-hard chest. Looking up, I saw Raguk growling down at the female in front of me.
"Leave. Now," he demanded for a third time. Unfortunately for him, she didn’t listen to him this time any more than she had the first two times.
"You will submit to my claim," growled the female, and I let out a low chuckle.
"Somehow, I don’t really see him as the submitting type," I muttered with a sly smile on my face.
"For you, I can be," he assured me, his eyes never leaving the Uugazt in front of me. Did he really see her as that much of a threat?
"I will give you a choice," I said, resting against the chest of the massive orc behind me. "You will have three seconds to leave my ship. If you choose to stay, that is fine. But you will never leave again. Do you understand?"
She scoffed at my statement, clearly mistaking me for a harmless species. "Do you know who my father is?" she asked, starting at the arm around my center.
"No, but if you are having problems remembering who he is, I am sure one of the others would be able to tell you," I replied with a shrug of my shoulders. Anyone who felt the need to name-drop needed to realize that it didn’t make them more powerful, only weaker, because they had to rely on someone else’s strength.
I could feel something growing against the small of my back, and it didn’t take a genius to understand exactly what it was.
I started to get wetter, thinking about climbing the jolly green giant behind me, and I was more than done with dealing with the female.
She had her shot, and he turned her down. He would never be hers.
"Are you mine?" I asked the most important question of all, looking up at the massive creature. He was truly a thing of nightmares; his bottom two tusks were thick and long, almost the size of two of my fingers put together. He could rip me apart without a second thought, and yet... that didn’t stop my attraction to him in the least.
"From this day forth, all that I am and all that I have is yours," he vowed, his eyes staring deep into mine.
I nodded at his statement. He said that he was mine, end of story.
Turning to the other female, I held up three fingers. "3..2.."
Before I could say one, she turned around and stalked through the doors of the launch bay.
Too bad, I was actually looking forward to her staying here.
Shrugging my shoulders as the hatch closed behind her, I turned around in the arms of the male holding me and reached up. My fingers barely made it to his neck, but it was enough to be able to tug his hair. Pulling him closer toward me, I tilted my head up for a kiss.
His lips were inches from mine, and just as they were about to touch... Jun Li, cockblocker extraordinaire, opened his mouth.
"We are being hailed by Silver Is The Moon. Should I answer it?"
