Chapter 56: Let the world know
The players who watched this happen felt their blood run dry from the horror. Their breath caught in their throats as they stared at the gruesome scene unfolding right before their eyes.
The arrogant smiles and greedy expressions that had covered their faces just a few minutes ago were gone, replaced bylook of terror that drained every ounce of warmth from their bodies.
They staggered backwards blindly, their boots scraping against the cold asphalt as they desperately tried to put some distance between themselves and the young monster standing in the center of the road.
The weapons in their hands felt impossibly heavy, vibrating along with their trembling fingers as their instincts screamed at them to drop everything.
They kept glancing from the pieced body of Varis, which lay scattered in separate, bleeding segments right in front of them, to the corpse of Larry and the three other players, which was still riddled with holes lying meters away.
Seeing the thick crimson pools of blood from both sides slowly merging together into one massive lake on the road made the reality of their situation sink in.
The eleven remaining players glanced at Leon, their wide, bloodshot eyes tracking his every movement with dread.
His image was completely changing in their eyes from a simple failure to that of a cold, merciless killer who could slaughter high-ranking hunters without even blinking.
The casual, relaxed posture he maintained while standing amidst the severed limbs and punctured corpses made him look more like a terrifying demon than a human being.
Leon on the other hand, simply clicked his tongue in mild annoyance as he stared down at the fresh corpses littering the road.
There was no joy, pride, or excitement on his face after achieving such a one-sided victory against an entire ambush party.
Instead, he looked completely inconvenienced by the mess, his expression showing nothing but a deep sense of dissatisfaction as he looked over the ruined gear and blood-soaked ground.
’I actually didn’t plan on killing them, but they should have stayed out of my way.’ he thought.
He had originally intended to just test his new equipment and leave the area without causing a massive scene, but their persistent arrogance and attacks had forced his hand.
To him, their sudden deaths were entirely their own fault for trying to corner someone they couldn’t possibly understand.
He slowly turned back to the other players, his dark eyes scanning the remaining line of ambushers with indifference.
The moment his gaze shifted toward them, the group immediately shrunk back in fear, pulling their heads down and arching their shoulders as if trying to make themselves smaller targets.
They all desperately wanted to run away from him, their legs practically begging them to turn around and sprint as fast as they could into the surrounding trees to escape the nightmare.
However, they didn’t know if running away would only cause a quicker death for them at the hands of Leon.
A few had even peed themselves in total panic, the warm fluid soaking through their standard armor and dripping onto the road.
They fell to the ground, their legs completely giving out beneath them as they collapsed into a heap, weeping silently and not knowing what else to do to survive the wrath of the monster standing before them.
Leon slowly turned his head towards one of the remaining players, his sharp eyes locking onto a specific target in the back row.
The man was bald with dry, cracked lips that were currently trembling with fear.
He had been trying his best to merge into the background and avoid catching the monster’s attention, but under Leon’s direct gaze, his entire body went completely rigid as if a bucket of ice water had been poured down his spine.
Leon stared at the terrified man for a brief moment before he finally spoke, his voice carrying a calm but commanding weight.
"Get that video out there. Let the world know that Leon Allistar is back." he said.
The words echoed clearly across the quiet, blood-stained road, leaving a heavy silence in their wake.
As soon as he finished saying those words, his body blurred, vanishing from the sights of the players entirely.
The bald player he spoke to was the most confused out of everyone left alive, his heart hammering wildly against his ribs as he stared at the empty space where the young hunter had just been standing.
His jaw dropped slightly, and a wave of pure bewilderment washed over his panicked mind. He thought in disbelief, ’He knew... he knew that I was recording the whole thing?’
He gnashed his teeth tightly together, a sudden burst of hot tears streaming down his eyes and washing over his pale cheeks as the weight of the situation finally crashed down on him.
If Leon had viewed his secret recording as a threat or an insult, his head would have been sliced off along with the rest of the leaders without a second thought.
He was actually the same person who had leaked the earlier footage of Leon jumping into the dungeon gate to the Roaring Lions guild.
He was a D-rank player who specialized in gathering information and capturing discreet videos of interesting events to sell to the highest bidder for a hefty profit.
In all the chaotic violence that had just unfolded, he had already completely forgotten he still had the tiny camera hidden securely on his collar.
He stared down at the large pools of blood expanding across the asphalt, his stomach turning as the smell of iron filled the air.
’I do this to make more money... but I swear... this is my last day as a player.’ he thought.
Meanwhile, miles away from the gruesome scene of the ambush, Leon landed heavily in a dark, secluded alleyway between two towering buildings, his feet touching the garbage-strewn ground softly.
He hissed, a shameful expression plastered all over his face.
He leaned his back against the brick wall, covering his face with one of his hands as a massive wave of embarrassment washed over him in the darkness.
’What was I thinking, saying that corny phrase at the end?’ he thought, clicking his tongue.
