Chapter 55: Hacked into pieces
He also didn’t have to stretch his fist out before summoning the shield, and could simply summon it anytime he wanted, and at any size he wanted.
Leon looked at the hesitation freezing the monstrous Varis and said, "Come on, aren’t you going to teach me manners again? Remember, you’re running on a time limit."
His voice carried a mocking, smooth tone that rippled across the blood-soaked asphalt, cutting right through the heavy atmosphere and driving his former instructor closer to the edge of madness.
Varis gnashed his teeth in fury, the sound of his grinding jaw muffled by the thick blood still dripping down his chest.
His massive frame trembled violently under the strain of his active transformation, his large red eyes burning with a mixture of hatred and deep humiliation.
He could still feel the jagged iron spikes stabbing his lungs and his insides with every shallow breath he took, further reminding him of the grim fate that befell his partner just moments ago.
He knew he was standing right on the edge of death, but the maddening pain only pushed him past the point of rational fear.
He dashed towards Leon again, his massive legs churning the dirt as he threw his four-meter frame forward, not caring about the consequences anymore.
He had completely abandoned his survival instincts, turning into a mindless machine of pure destruction driven only by the desire to crush the player in front of him.
His Last Stand had a short limit of sixty seconds, and he couldn’t afford to waste it by being afraid or hesitating in the middle of the road.
Every single tick of the clock was draining away his strength, and once that single minute expired, his health would drop to one point and leave him completely helpless.
He had to use every remaining fraction of a second to launch an offensive, knowing this was his absolute last chance to strike.
He was also sure there was a limit to just how much Leon’s shield could reflect, and if he dealt enough damage to it, it would crumble.
As a veteran B-rank player, he believed that no defensive skill in the world was truly absolute. Every shield had a maximum durability capacity, and he reasoned that if he pushed his berserker strength to the maximum, his metal-clad fists could shatter the green shield before the damage get reflected.
However, the shield in question suddenly vanished into thin air.
Varis’ eyes widened seeing this, a sudden surge of pure excitement rushing through his veins. The sudden opening felt like a direct gift from heaven, completely erasing his doubts.
’How stupid! You think you can stop my fist without your shield?!’ he thought.
He believed that Leon had made a fatal error of arrogance, overestimating his own baseline durability and letting his guard down at the worst possible moment.
Without the shield, the boy was nothing more than a fragile human target, or so he thought.
He swung his massive fist sideways at Leon’s head with everything he had left, the heavy metal gauntlet molded around his knuckles cutting through the air like a crashing meteor.
He channeled the entirety of his agony and his adrenaline into the swing, aiming to blast his head off with that strike and end the battle right then and there.
Leon suddenly swiped his fist twice in the air. The movement was so incredibly swift and fluid that it bypassed the visual tracking of a B-rank player entirely, leaving nothing but a faint distortion in the atmosphere.
To the surrounding onlookers, it looked as though Leon had simply casually brushed away a fly, his arm blurring for a split second before returning to his side.
Unbeknownst to Varis, a golden cross was already perfectly lined with his body.
The vertical line of the cross was aligned with his torso, splitting his massive frame perfectly down the center from his forehead down to his groin.
The horizontal line was drawn over his neck, carving a precise path right across his throat from shoulder to shoulder.
The two lines created a perfect, glowing target that sealed his fate before he could even register the danger.
Leon had simply swiped his blade, following those two lines. Even though Excalibur remained in phantom mode, its edge was sharper than any blade in existence.
Leon smirked, his eyes flashing with a cold glint. He didn’t move away from the massive fist that was supposed to smash his skull, standing completely still with confidence.
Varis was confused by why he was smirking, his mind failing to understand why the young hunter looked so victorious when a metallic fist was just inches away from his face.
He expected to see panic, terror, or a desperate attempt to dodge, but instead, he was met with mockery.
However, before his massive fist could bridge the final gap to connect with Leon’s head, he suddenly felt a warm line spread from the tip of his head all the way down his torso.
The warmth was followed by an absolute loss of sensation and control over his muscles. His monstrous body suddenly split apart, starting from the top of his head through his spine, then his neck.
The clean, perfect cuts opened up instantly, separating his flesh, bones, and thick armor along the exact paths of the hidden golden cross.
The pieces fell to the ground with a loud thud, the heavy weight of his giant limbs and torso crashing against the cracked asphalt.
Thick, dark blood began gushing out of them like a ruptured dam, painting the road in a massive, expanding crimson wave that rushed toward the feet of the surviving onlookers.
The precision of the invisible slashes had bypassed his Last Stand immortality entirely, bypassing his health pool by dismantling his body into separate parts.
The sliced pieces trembled slightly on the cold ground, the nerves twitching involuntarily as his skills deactivated.
The glowing red aura of his berserker state flickered out like a dying candle, and the tough, coarse furs on his arm retracted back into his skin.
His massive, four-meter frame quickly shrank and deflated, his bones popping as his body reverted back to normal.
The monstrous Demonic Yak Form vanished completely within seconds, leaving no trace of the terrifying beast behind. He was now a normal human being, except he had been hacked into pieces.
