Chapter 48: Try taking it from me?[Fixed]
The swirling orange energy of the dungeon gate suddenly began to ripple slightly.
The restless silence of the players vanished in an instant as every single head snapped toward the threshold.
Weapons were gripped tightly, knuckles turning white as the players braced themselves for what was about to emerge.
Then, Leon Allistar calmly walked through the gate, as if he were merely walking out of a grocery store rather than a dangerous C-rank dungeon.
The players blinked in utter disbelief, their minds failing to comprehend the sight before them.
Leon didn’t look like someone who had just survived a brutal, hours-long battle against savage creatures entirely on his own.
In fact, there was zero scratches on his body. His skin was completely flawless, devoid of any cuts, bruises, or lacerations that should have been inflicted by the aggressive monsters inside.
Even his clothes were still in perfect condition. The fabric wasn’t torn, shredded, or stained with the dark blood of beasts. He looked entirely immaculate, breathing evenly and radiating an aura of absolute comfort.
Leon chuckled softly as he fully stepped out into the open air, the light sound cutting through the stunned silence of the empty street.
His dark gaze swept slowly over the assembled group of players, tracking their wide eyes and frozen postures.
He didn’t show a single trace of fear or surprise at the massive ambush waiting for him. Instead, his eyes easily locked onto the perimeter, quickly scanning the crowd until they landed on the two individuals who hadn’t been there when he first entered.
The two newcomers stood out like a sore thumb among the rest of the C and D-rank players. Their sheer presence and posture commanded a completely different level of authority, making it obvious to Leon that the ambushers had called in reinforcements.
One of them was a man with short, cropped black hair and a remarkably buff physique. He stood tall, his broad shoulders and thick muscles heavily pronounced.
He wore specialized armor strapped firmly around his chest, his back, and his legs, leaving his arms bare to showcase his massive strength.
Despite the seemingly little amount of armor around his body, the gear was of undeniable high quality. The materials gleamed with a distinct, polished sheen that made it clear to anyone looking that these pieces were at least Rare grade, far superior to the standard gear of the surrounding crowd.
The other man presented a completely different, yet equally intimidating appearance. He had long black hair that fell loosely around his shoulders, framing a cold, expressionless face.
Unlike his companion, he was clad in significantly more armor, which wrapped around him meticulously. The heavy, dark plates covered every single part of his body from head to toe, leaving absolutely nothing exposed except for his face.
The two powerful B-rank players immediately grew incredibly tense the moment their eyes landed on Leon. The arrogant confidence they had displayed just moments ago vanished, replaced by a sudden, deep instinctual caution.
’How could this be possible? How come he is still... so fresh?’ they thought.
As they stared in bewildered silence, their eyes caught on the system information hovering in the air.
[Player Level: 7]
The revelation hit the group like a physical blow. Before he had entered the dungeon, they were absolutely sure he was only at level four.
Yet now, in the span of just a few hours inside a single gate, he had jumped up three whole levels on his own.
The three-level jump was definite proof that he did clear the dungeon on his own. There was simply no other explanation for a player to gain that much experience in such a short amount of time.
Leon’s calm voice suddenly broke them out of their stunned thoughts, cutting through the heavy silence of the clearing.
"Wow... so many players. Are you here to welcome me or something?" he said.
Hearing those words, the gathered players gnashed their teeth in frustration. The anger burned through their initial shock, because they could easily tell that Leon was taunting them.
He knew exactly why they were standing there with their weapons drawn, yet he was casually treating their deadly ambush like a friendly welcoming committee. His complete lack of fear felt like a direct slap to their faces.
The man with the short black hair and buff physique stepped forward from the crowd, his heavy boots thudding against the ground.
He glared down at Leon, his deep voice filled with a mixture of annoyance and authority as he spoke. "Leon Allistar... you sure have grown so much. Talking back to your elders like this."
Leon didn’t flinch at the aggressive tone. Instead, his smile widened slightly, and he gave a casual nod as he replied, "Nice to meet you too, teacher."
The buff man had actually been a teacher at the Estus academy in the past.
Estus academy was a highly prestigious institution, universally known for developing and training many of the most powerful, top-tier players around the world.
Because of his former position at the school, he knew Leon very well from back then, having watched him fall from the top to the bottom after the awakening ceremony.
He had however, resigned from his position at the academy some time ago. Finding the quiet life of an instructor unfulfilling, he had decided to leave the school behind and become an active, full-time player instead, eventually climbing his way up to the coveted B-rank status.
But looking at Leon standing before him now, the former teacher kept doubting whether this was really the same Leon Allistar he used to know.
Though they carried the exact same face, every other thing about him seemed completely different. His posture was straight, his eyes were sharp and fearless, and his entire demeanor radiated an overwhelming sense of confidence.
Especially his presence; the heavy, suffocating pressure bleeding off Leon right now was something the man had never felt from him before. It was the aura of a true predator, completely eclipsing the weak boy from his memories.
The man, whose name was Varis, felt a sudden drop in his stomach. ’is that... really Leon Allistar?’
Varis didn’t show his internal thoughts on his face, though, keeping up a brave facade.
He narrowed his eyes at his former student and continued speaking, his voice booming in the air. "Actually, we’re not here to fight you... instead, hand over that weapon of yours and come peacefully with us."
The demand wasn’t a random guess. Before coming to set up the ambush, they had already thoroughly rewatched the video footage of Leon charging into the dungeon gate.
They had analyzed the clip over and over again, eventually coming to the firm conclusion that he was carrying some kind of weapon when he leaped through the gate.
Though they weren’t completely sure if it was really a sword or some other type of armament due to the smoky form, they knew without a doubt that it possessed incredible value.
Both the Rainy guild and the Cross Block guild were entirely sure that Leon had stumbled upon some kind of massive secret.
To them, there was no other logical explanation for how a complete loser like Leon—someone who had been stuck at the bottom of society for years—could suddenly possess so much overwhelming power.
They believed the weapon was the key to his sudden, explosive growth.
Because of this, both guilds desperately wanted that ’secret’ for themselves. The leaders and high-ranking members were greedily thinking about how much it could help their respective guilds grow if they managed to lay their hands on it.
An item capable of turning a level four trash player into a solo C-rank dungeon clearer in a single day could easily skyrocket their organizations to the very top of the industry!
It was definitely a high-grade or even an epic grade treasure! The thought of it being a legendary grade didn’t cross their mind though. The sheer wealth and influence it would bring made them completely blind to the danger Leon posed.
Leon looked at the greedy expressions of the surrounding crowd and chuckled softly. He tilted his head slightly, his eyes gleaming with amusement as he casually asked, "Or else?"
Hearing his defiant question, the two B-rank men’s eyes turned instantly cold. The atmosphere around the gate grew incredibly heavy, thick with sudden killing intent.
The other newcomer, Larry, spoke up instead of Varis, his voice sounding like grinding stones as he stepped into the light. "Or else, we take it from you by force. It’s not like you have a choice here, kid. Look around you. There’s no escaping."
Leon sneered at the blatant display of intimidation. He didn’t seem even a little panicked.
He looked at Larry, then at Varis, and finally at the entire crowd of greedy faces.
A cold, sharp smile spread across his face as he reached out his hand, his voice dropping into a dangerous, provocative tone. He looked directly at the two B-rank leaders and said, "Then why don’t you try taking it from me?"
