Chapter 47: Trap
They were actually quite heavy when Leon first took their weight, the dense material pressing firmly into his hands.
However, it was nothing his current strength couldn’t handle.
As he held them up to inspect them closer, a tab appeared above them, floating neatly in his line of sight.
[Spiked Gauntlets(rare)]
Leon’s eyes shone in excitement and he felt glad with the rare rank item resting on his palm.
Clearing a dungeon and taking the treasure for himself was something he had always dreamed of since his academy days.
Back then, he used to look at the famous players on television, envying how they walked out of dangerous gates carrying treasures and receiving the applause of the masses. He had spent countless nights imagining himself in their shoes, conquering the unknown.
The harsh reality of his low rank had crushed his ambitions though, and without the financial or emotional backing of his family, he had been relegated to the absolute bottom of society.
He had accepted that he would never be the hero of his own story, burying his deep desires under the weight of survival.
Now though, he was strong, and he could now clear a dungeon, even on his own! The contrast between his miserable past and his current reality was staggering.
He no longer needed a party, a wealthy guild, or his family’s approval to conquer a gate, having just proven his worth by slaughtering a boss and claiming the ultimate prize through his own power.
A notification suddenly appeared before him, interrupting his thoughts, and his eyes widened in shock.
[Would you like to extract legendary item from this treasure?]
[Yes/No]

Meanwhile, outside the dungeon gate, the players gathered there were extremely confused. The initial tension and excitement of their ambush had completely drained away, replaced by an awkward, restless silence as the clock continued to tick without any sign of movement from the gate.
They were now sixteen in number, with two additional players having joined them during the long wait.
The newcomers had been briefed on the situation, adding their own strength to the perimeter, but the growing crowd only made the lack of activity feel even more frustrating and bizarre.
They had all been standing outside for hours now, shifting their weight from foot to foot and constantly checking their weapons.
As the day dragged on, their confidence began to waver, and they were getting confused by the total silence from the gate.
They looked at each other with raised eyebrows, thinking to themselves, ’could it be... that he’s dead?’
That was the only plausible explanation at this point, after all, Leon had already been in the dungeon for hours now.
A standard C-rank dungeon was completely brutal, filled with aggressive monsters that could easily overwhelm a solo player within minutes.
For a single person to stay inside such an environment for an extended period like this usually meant only one grim outcome.
Most of them didn’t even believe he would be able to clear the dungeon on his own, feeling like he wouldn’t get past the first floor.
To them, the very idea of a solo hunter successfully navigating a C-rank gate from start to finish was a complete joke.
They assumed his confident jump into the gate was nothing more than a reckless act of desperation, and that he had likely been torn to shreds by the very first pack of monsters he encountered near the entrance.
They only stood back because they believed him jumping into the dungeon was part of an even bigger plan to lure them in and ambush them.
Now though, they felt like that plan had failed completely, and Leon would have been torn apart by the C-rank monsters.
They figured that whatever trap he had tried to set had completely backfired on him, leaving him entirely isolated and helpless against the savage claws and teeth of the dungeon’s inhabitants.
The only thing that gave them doubt, and kept them from entirely packing up their gear, was the fact that monsters weren’t pouring out of the gate yet.
The swirling orange gate remained perfectly calm, its energetic surface rippling smoothly without a single creature breaching the threshold to enter the outside world. This unnatural stillness was the only anomaly that didn’t fit their theory.
If there was no player in the dungeon to kill the monsters, they would simply run out of the gate, causing damage everywhere they went.
Since nothing like that was happening, they couldn’t help but wonder, was Leon really dead... or had he actually somehow cleared the dungeon alone?
The terrifying thought began to take root in the backs of their minds, sending a sudden chill down their spines.
If he was still alive and keeping the monsters at bay, it meant they were dealing with a completely different level of monster than they had originally anticipated.
The man who first noticed Leon turned to the side, breaking away from his internal thoughts as he adjusted his posture.
He looked over toward the edge of the clearing, where the two new players who joined them were standing quietly, their high-grade armor and confident stances radiating a completely different level of authority compared to the rest of the group.
He stared at the two powerhouses, a dark, vindictive smirk forming on his face as his confidence flooded right back back into him.
’You chose a bad time Leon Allistar, we have two B-rank players waiting for you here. You’re finished!’ he thought.
Even if Leon had somehow miraculously survived the horrors of the dungeon, he would be stepping right into an inescapable squad the moment he showed his face.
He guessed that Leon was still fighting the monsters in the dungeon, which made sense since he had chosen to jump in alone.
No matter how strong he was, he would be tired, and would be just like a rat falling straight into their trap.
"Hehe." he chuckled, feeling excited merely thinking about it.
