Chapter 45: Father... what the hell are you planning?
The man suddenly cleared his throat, letting out a sharp cough.
"I understand your feelings, Sir Yeon," he began, his voice wavering slightly. "But you cannot go there."
Yeon froze instantly, his entire body stiffening at the unexpected interruption. The room seemed to drop several degrees as he glared at the trembling man.
"You... you really want to die so bad, don’t you?" Yeon hissed, his voice laced with an open, lethal threat.
The man instinctively shrunk back, his shoulders bunching up as he tried to distance himself from the intense pressure.
He swallowed hard, raising his hands slightly in a defensive gesture.
"No, sir! It’s just... they... the Rainy Guild and Cross Block Guild have already said they would handle this matter entirely on their own," the man explained rapidly, desperate to calm Yeon’s rising temper.
He took a quick breath and continued before Yeon could strike him down. "Even before we reached out to them to offer our ’generous’ help with this situation, they had already refused any outside interference. They made it completely clear that they do not want our assistance."
Yeon clenched his jaw, the sound of his grinding teeth sharp in the room. He hissed out a direct response, his glare narrowing into slits. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"I believe... they have some sort of plan involving Leon," the man said, carefully choosing his words to avoid triggering another outburst. He kept his eyes lowered, focusing on the interface of his watch.
The man then reminded Yeon of the rigid politics governing their world.
Even though the Roaring Lions Guild was a massive superpower, huge enough to dwarf most organizations, they still couldn’t just barge into another guild’s designated region without first informing the latter.
It was a strict boundary line that kept the peace between the player guilds.
Normally, a guild as powerful as the Roaring Lions could easily find a way to bypass these rules or push their way through using their overwhelming influence.
However, the circumstances this time were entirely different. The Rainy Guild and Cross Block Guild had purposely sent an official, direct message to them and every other major guild across the network.
The message explicitly stated that they could handle whatever was currently happening at the C-rank gate on their own, firmly declaring that they didn’t need any help.
Disregarding such a direct, public message and appearing at the dungeon gate anyway would be nothing but an open show of disrespect to the two guilds.
For an organization that prized its global reputation above all else, forcing their way into another guild’s territory after a formal rejection would leave a massive stain on the Roaring Lions’ name.
The Rainy Guild and the Cross Block Guild were both mid-tier, B-rank organizations. In the grand hierarchy of the player world, they were relatively small fish.
They lacked the massive financial backing, the state-of-the-art facilities, and the global prestige of the S-rank guilds like Roaring Lions.
However, they were not completely insignificant. Operating in a shared territory, the two B-rank guilds had managed to carve out a stable niche for themselves.
Yeon’s expression twisted into a look of pure, unadulterated disgust. He hissed, the sound sharp and venomous in the quiet room. "Who cares what those greedy idiots want?"
His eyes flashed with a dangerous light as he looked down at the trembling man. To someone of Yeon’s stature, the petty ambitions and regional boundaries of B-rank guilds were nothing but a joke.
To Yeon, their public notice wasn’t a boundary line to be respected, and was more like a desperate attempt by weaklings to protect whatever little gains they could get.
"The Roaring Lions appear at the gate to apprehend a huge suspect of their A-rank talent’s murder," Yeon stated.
He leaned forward slightly, mapping out the scenario in his head. "It’s the perfect story!"
The Roaring Lions Guild had a completely valid, undeniable justification. An A-rank talent, a precious asset to their organization, had been murdered.
The trail led directly to that specific C-rank gate, and Leon was the prime suspect. In Yeon’s eyes, avenging a murdered guild member and bringing a criminal to justice completely trumped any minor problem like this.
Yeon leaned back, narrowing his eyes as he considered the consequences the man had brought up.
Appearing there would indeed put a stain on the guild’s name. Forcing their way into another guild’s territory after a formal rejection would definitely cause a temporary uproar in the media.
But it would just be a little stain, one that would wash away in little time.
The public had a short memory, and the media could always be manipulated. Once the suspect was captured and the truth was revealed, the initial outrage would fade into the background.
After all, the Roaring Lions were a truly powerful guild, possessing influence that reached into the highest levels of government and finance.
More importantly, they had the ultimate deterrent. The guild was led by the well-known S-rank hunter, Teon Allistar, who served as its formidable guildmaster.
An S-rank hunter was essentially a walking weapon of mass destruction, a being of overwhelming power that single-handedly guaranteed the guild’s immunity from any real consequences. No mid-tier alliance would ever dare to push for actual retaliation against an organization backed by a monster like Teon Allistar.
The man shook his head, however, his face growing even paler as he prepared to deliver the worst part of the news.
He swallowed hard, his voice trembling as he spoke. "Besides... the guildmaster said we shouldn’t interfere, especially... you, Sir Yeon."
The room went deathly still. The words hung in the air like a heavy weight, instantly freezing the explosive momentum of Yeon’s anger.
"Father said that? For what?!" Yeon shouted angrily. "Why can’t I just barge there and drag that fucking bastard with me?!"
He couldn’t comprehend why his father would pull the reins on him now, forcing him to sit idle when the target was right within their reach.
The man shivered in fear, feeling the intense pressure radiating from Yeon’s growing frustration. He shrunk his head down, desperately wishing he could be anywhere else.
"We were asked to simply... watch how the situation would unfold."
’Father... what the hell are you planning...?’ Yeon thought, gnashing his teeth.
