Chapter 44: He knows something

The most shocking thing about the entire footage was the exact manner in which Leon had executed his attacks against the beasts.

As Yeon watched the playback closely, he could see that Leon’s hand was empty, lacking any sword, spear, or visible weapon.

Yet, despite having absolutely nothing in his grasp, he had sliced a massive C-rank Sabertooth tiger cleanly into two with a single swing of his fist.

The raw force required to cut through a C-rank monster’s thick hide and bone without a weapon was an impossible feat for any low-level individual.

Yeon’s expression kept worsening with each passing second as he watched the video play out to its conclusion.

Yeon stepped forward, coming closer to the video projection.

He leaned in tightly, his eyes narrowing into slits as he watched the recording again from a much shorter distance.

He needed to be sure that what he was seeing was really true, desperate to find some sign of editing or digital tampering that could explain away the impossible footage.

He stared unblinkingly at the glowing blue light, his breath hitching as he analyzed every single frame of the playback.

It wasn’t possible for it to be a lie, though. The data stream came directly from a Cross Block player who had been lucky enough to record the whole thing from start to finish with a camera he hid on his armour.

There were players like that, who made clips of themselves and posted it on the internet for views and fame.

The player that recorded this quickly sold this information to the Roaring Lions, knowing they would be eager to purchase the video for a good amount of money.

Even if Yeon initially doubted the person in the video was really Leon, attempting to convince himself that it was merely an unknown player, the point where his hoodie slipped off during a sudden, rapid movement completely shattered that denial.

The fabric had fallen back perfectly, revealing the sharp, unmistakable facial features that proved it was truly him!

The shocking realization hit Yeon like a physical blow, forcing him to take a sharp breath as his mind raced to comprehend the visual proof.

"Pause it right there..." he said, pointing towards the projection.

The man followed his instruction immediately, his fingers flying across the interface of his watch.

He tapped the controls rapidly, freezing the playback at the exact part where Leon had cleanly split the Sabertooth tiger into two separate halves.

The frozen image hung in the air, capturing the exact moment the C-rank beast’s body began to separate under the immense force of the invisible strike.

Yeon did not take his eyes off the frozen image for even a second, making sure to observe it throughly.

He pointed a trembling finger at the projection and said, "Zoom it to his hands."

The man did exactly as he asked, pinching the interface screen to magnify the specific section of the video until Leon’s clenched fist occupied the entire space of the holographic display.

Yeon stared intently at his hands, his gaze burning into the pixelated lines of the magnified image as he searched for any hidden detail.

He looked past the blurred motion lines, finally catching sight of a faint, barely visible smoke curling gently from Leon’s closed fist.

He stared at the bizarre phenomenon in absolute disbelief, his voice dropping to a low, ragged whisper as he muttered, "What... the hell is that?"

He had been very confused throughout the entire duration of the video, feeling that nothing about the scene made sense.

His brother had always been considered a powerless failure who lacked the capacity to kill even an E-rank monster alone, let alone annihilate high-grade beasts with a single movement.

Leon’s fist was tightly clenched in the frozen frame, his fingers wrapped completely inward in a very specific grip, like he was holding a weapon.

But then, despite the obvious combat stance and the posture, there was no visible weapon in his hands.

’What the hell is he wielding... a weapon? A smoke sword, or some kind of weird skill?’ he thought.

He had never seen a smoke blade before in his entire life, nor had he ever heard about a skill that summoned a smoke blade in any of the official archives.

As an S-rank talent belonging to one of the greatest guilds in the world, he had access to a vast database of information regarding rare items and unique skills.

Yet, absolutely nothing in his memories or his extensive training could explain the strange, wispy phenomenon currently displayed on the holographic projection before him.

He was absolutely sure Leon’s talent wasn’t the reason for this sudden display of power, since it was nothing but a useless F-rank talent.

His gaze remained locked on the frozen frame as his mind desperately tried to rationalize the visual evidence.

’Could it just be a smoke sword or a skill... or a sword masking itself as a smoke?’ he thought, considering the possibility of a unique concealment ability that deliberately hid the physical form of a blade.

His eyes suddenly shone in realization as a sharp, greedy thought crossed his mind.

’That bastard... he somehow got his hands on a very good weapon. Probably high-grade!’ he thought.

It was the only explanation that made any logical sense to him. The trash who possessed absolutely no talent must have stumbled upon a high-grade treasure that was carrying his entire combat performance.

He gnashed his teeth in pure envy and irritation, the harsh sound of his grinding jaw echoing quietly in the room.

He began to think deeper, connecting the dots and combining everything he knew about his brother’s recent activities outside the guild’s supervision.

Leon had been part of Ran’s party, acting as their miserable porter and carrying their heavy bags through the dungeons.

Then, out of nowhere, the ’golden explosion’ had occurred, resulting in a situation where suddenly Ran and all his party members were wiped out.

"They all died... apart from this bastard. How did he even survive in the first place?" he mutttered.

It was completely impossible for a weak porter to walk out of a lethal dungeon raid completely unscathed while the others, who were far stronger were completely wiped out.

He could easily tell that something was very fishy about the whole situation, and Leon stood right at the dead center of it all.

The mysterious survival, the sudden appearance at a C-rank gate, the weird ’invisible’ sword, and the effortless slaughter of Sabertooth tigers all pointed to a massive, hidden secret.

His brother was clearly hiding a monumental fortune or a dark truth that he had managed to plunder from the very dungeon where Ran and his colleagues had perished.

He abruptly turned away from the projection screen, his mind completely made up.

He marched toward the exit of the private quarters, his voice cutting through the room with authority as he said, "I’m heading there, this bastard definitely knows something about Ran’s death."

He was determined to intercept his brother the moment he stepped out of that gate, ready to extract the truth and strip him of whatever weapon he was currently hiding.
