Chapter 291: The End of The Supernaturals (III)
"They can’t be stopped."
"These... these are not... Ahhh!"
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!
"Help m—"
Pitch-black blood splashed over the camera, the words for help failing to be completed as supernatural body parts were violently blown into the air.
There were three seconds of silence before the view shook heavily with a rhythm similar to that of someone stepping forward, and a massive pitch-black hand oozing with shadow covered the view.
CRAACK!
Cracks splintered all across it, and then the holograph went dark.
____
It was a barely lit hall.
Nine Astral Projections hung suspended in the air, each housing a person and occupying a place around a rectangular table that stretched ten meters long.
There was only a single person with a real physical form in the room, and he sat at the head of the table.
White hair, white eyes, white shirt, pale white complexion.
He was a man who appeared to embody the color white itself.
"They’re losing to them... rapidly."
One of the holographic projections spoke up.
"What exactly are these beings?"
"The power difference is too wide. These are definitely Higher Plane Beings... Why would they ever descend upon Earth!?"
"To what use are these questions?"
"We all should be concerned about how many of our people we can save."
"Half of Hatan City has already been wiped out, and it’s barely been an hour since that ominous declaration."
"If this is allowed to continue for even one more hour..."
"Who exactly is the one who made that declaration?"
"He should be the one we go after. Surely, his death would halt these beings’ actions."
______
The arguments continued echoing through the dark room from the nine holographic projections in the air.
It continued ceaselessly for about five minutes before it came to an abrupt stop as all eyes turned to the one who had never spoken a word.
The Man in White.
"What do you think of this... Emissary Exorus?"
One of them finally asked.
The man, who had his brows knitted slightly, settled back into a more neutral expression and spoke.
"These beings are an ancient Higher Race..."
He began in a calm voice.
"They’re known as Umbrawyrs. A race that evolved from darkness itself. They possess such terrifying powers that even in the higher realms, very few races would ever dare challenge them."
"But supreme races like this disdain lower hierarchical races like Humans or you Supernaturals."
"Your death does not appease them, nor does it hold any fun for them, so they opt to leave you alone."
"Besides, the place in the Higher Plane these beings came from is far away. It makes no sense that they should come this far out and specifically to Earth, which means one thing."
He paused, a memory flashing through his mind.
"Someone has ordered them to come."
"Someone not only powerful, but whose darkness bloodline is so strong that these beings would listen to his command without a second word, and that could only be one of two beings."
There was an unexplainable wave of pressure that descended upon the hall before the words were spoken.
"An Umbrawyric Queen or an Umbrawyric King."
"Right now, the Umbrawyrs haven’t had a King in centuries. Only a Queen."
"I hate to interrupt, but this information does not help us, Emissary Exorus."
One of the holograms, a being hidden behind bones, called out.
"I know what you want to hear..."
The Emissary replied.
"And I have an answer. If the one who has descended upon Earth is the Queen of the Umbrawyrs... Her Evil Nythera."
At this point, they could all see the quiet exhale of horror as the Emissary’s eyes steeled.
"Then the only choice each of you has is to run away as fast and as far as you can."
"But even then... I am quite certain that if she has her eyes on you, then death shall definitely find you."
He finished, and a chilling silence lingered in the hall.
They all knew who Emissary Exorus was, and they had all seen a glimpse of his power.
It was beyond what any one of them possessed and taking him down would most likely require all of them working together.
This was why they had given him such respect, yet he was telling them all that their only choice was to run.
"But..."
The Emissary said before any of them could speak.
"I am absolutely certain this is not the work of Her Evil Nythera. By her reputation, she would not care for Earth at all, and that means one thing..."
"The Umbrawyrs finally have a King, and for him to have descended upon this world..."
He murmured beneath his breath before rising to his feet.
"There’s only one way to survive and prevent your race’s extinction, and that is by stopping the Umbrawyrs."
"The only way to do that is to either kill them all or kill the King."
"The Umbrawyrs are not a sentimental race. Kill the new King, and they’ll have no more reason to follow his orders."
"They’ll leave."
He said, and all attention focused on him.
"In which cities did the Umbrawyrs first descend?"
"Hatan City and Forit City."
One of the beings amongst the 9 holograms replied.
"They’re the only two cities that do not have any Human population."
Another added, and Emissary Exorus’ eyes narrowed.
"To attack cities that specifically contain only Supernaturals... the Umbrawyric King most likely wants no harm done to Humans."
"But there’s also a second possibility."
"By attacking those cities first, the Umbrawyrs will be able to recognize Supernaturals apart from Humans and adapt their methods of killing them."
"To slow them down, we make it hard for them to differentiate."
"All cities populated solely by Supernaturals will be the first targets, and right now they’re all sitting ducks."
"Send all of those Supernaturals straight into Human cities if you want them to survive."
"Mix them all together, and then, with whatever power you may have, make Humans appear as Supernaturals, or at least indistinguishable whether in aura or form. Temporarily is enough."
"This should slow down the Umbrawyric Army. They would absolutely not risk disobeying the orders of their King and stay their hands."
He said.
"But that only stalls the Army. How do we deal with the real problem, which is the King?"
"Umbrawyrs are a race that grows more terrifying in power with the number of years they’ve lived. This new King of theirs must be a new Umbrawyr, yet to live up to his full potential."
Emissary Exorus deduced.
"I’ll go after him. If he can be defeated, then he will be. But be prepared to fight at any moment."
"For now, guard your territories and do not separate Humans from Supernaturals. That’ll only speed up your deaths..."
He said before snapping his fingers, and all at once the holographs in the room vanished.
It left only Emissary Exorus, who exhaled quietly before whispering:
"The plans have changed... What do I do now?"
He asked, seemingly to himself.
Yet all at once,
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!
Space above his head ripped open and out came what could only be described as a colossal maw, and then growl.
"LET THEM DIE!"
It said, and Emissary Exorus froze.
"MY WILL IS TO HAVE SUPERNATURALS SLAUGHTER THE HUMANS AND FEED OFF THE DESTRUCTION."
"YOUR FAILURE OF A HELP HAS ALLOWED THE SUPERNATURALS TO OVERWHELM THE HUMANS AND THEN CHOOSE TO SPARE THEM BY MAKING THEM A LOWER RACE."
"THAT IS NOT MY WILL!"
"But, my Lord, my plan will ensure the Humans get destroyed eventually. I’ve been—"
"IT’S TOO SLOW!"
The voice shot back with a growl, and Emissary Exorus shivered in fear.
"BUT NOW THERE’S AN OPPORTUNITY. LET THE UMBRAWYRS SLAUGHTER THE SUPERNATURALS."
"And the Humans?"
Emissary Exorus whispered.
"THE DESTRUCTION WILL BE ENOUGH ENERGY FOR ME TO ASK MUNDUS TO OPEN A NEW DOOM RIFT ON EARTH LINKED TO THE WORLD OF OZONOTY."
"THAT RACE SHALL DEFINITELY SUCCEED WHERE THE SUPERNATURALS HAVE FAILED."
"AS FOR YOU! FEIGN TO BE ON THE SIDE OF THE SUPERNATURALS WHILE WITNESSING THEIR DESTRUCTION."
"DO NOT FAIL ME!"
It growled one last time as Emissary Exorus bowed his head.
"As you wish... My Lord."
After that, the maw faded out of the world, leaving only Emissary Exorus, who remained on one knee.
Then, quietly, his eyes opened once more, and a single emotion flashed within their depths:
Defiance.
