Chapter 292: Once More Meeting With The Emissary of Death
"My Lord... The two cities have been rid of all Supernaturals."
The words echoed in White’s head as the world around him flashed into existence for a heartbeat before dissolving into the pitch-black Void, only to materialize again and repeat the cycle.
This was a result of him moving at a speed so terrifying that he completely escaped the boundaries of Earth’s reality, disappearing straight into the Void of existence to reappear hundreds of thousands of kilometers away.
The words in his mind did not slow him in the slightest. He continued moving at a terrifying speed, appearing in Earth’s reality with his palm wide open.
A massive pillar of darkness exploded from its center.
Before it had even finished surging forward, White had already disappeared, reappeared elsewhere, and fired another, repeating the process nearly ten times.
"Tell them to converge at the locations where the darkness pillars appear whilst eliminating all Supernaturals on their path."
"The Humans are to strictly be left alone."
He ordered before disappearing into the Void of space once more, reappearing at the top of a skyscraper overlooking an entire city.
[You’re filling the Humans up in buildings, then sealing the entire buildings in your aura?]
[That still doesn’t stop the Supernatural from hurting them in revenge, does it?]
The System asked as White’s gaze shifted toward a building, where he watched a Werewolf step forward.
The creature paused before the weird blue barrier surrounding the building, then slowly stretched out it’s hand toward it.
The instant its claws made contact, it sprang backward instinctively. It didn’t even make it fifty meters before its body was reduced to ash.
[Oh, you made the barriers destructive against a Supernatural’s touch, too.]
The System observed, and White grinned for a moment.
He remained standing on the building for about 30 more minutes after which his eyes narrowed in quiet confusion.
[What’s wrong?]
"I’m expecting they would have already come to challenge me by now or ordered all Supernaturals to begin fighting back against the Humans, yet... nothing."
White mused.
It was common sense that when the Umbrawyrs began attacking, the Supernaturals would fight back.
That was why White had sealed all of the Humans in the buildings, and protected them with his aura.
Yet all he could see as he stood above those buildings were Supernaturals wandering the streets as though everything were normal.
Some paused before the buildings where the Humans were and tried to go in, but after a couple of them were reduced to ashes, they quickly gave up.
The sight made a sneer appear on White’s face as he looked into the distance, seeing the approaching clouds of Umbrawyrs.
When they reached here, all these Supernaturals would be nothing but sitting ducks.
"Either they’re trying to make their own destruction easier... or..."
White mused and, in the next moment, shut his eyes as his senses rushed outward.
With his near-godly perception, he was able to narrow in on the more powerful auras that weren’t Human, the Alphanomalous Creatures.
Splitting his senses, he could follow the orders each one of them was issuing.
They mostly involved dispersing chemicals throughout the Supernatural bases established in every city, masking the aura of humans to make it indistinguishable from that of Supernaturals and confuse the Umbrawyrs.
A plan White found utterly absurd.
Firstly, he had already cleared the Humans away from the city and barricaded the buildings he’d placed them in with his aura.
That gas wouldn’t be getting through his aura barrier.
And secondly, they were massively underestimating the Umbrawyrs.
No matter how potent the chemical was, Umbrawyr senses didn’t work in terms of appearance or aura.
They actually saw things through darkness, and right now White could easily tell the difference between a Human and a Supernatural simply by the amount of darkness in their soul.
Supernatural souls were almost fully dark, while most Humans possessed noticeably less.
The chemicals might change physical aura and temporarily mutate most Human appearances, but they wouldn’t change their reception to darkness.
The Umbrawyrs would have no problem distinguishing which was which.
[They’re all sitting on their thrones... like ducks.]
The System panel flashed.
"No."
White replied.
"They’re waiting for something... some sort of signal."
He mused, and in that moment, he paused as he noticed the world around him undergo a peculiar change:
All of a sudden, everything paused.
The Supernaturals walking the streets.
The Humans inside the buildings, pressing against the barriers in a futile attempt to escape.
Even the air itself stood still.
White turned around, his eyes locking onto an approaching figure.
White hair.
White skin.
White eyes.
The Man in White.
The same one he had met in the bar just about twenty years ago.
"I hear Umbrawyr Kings wear a crown of thorns. Some say it’s blue in color, some say it’s green, others say crimson or black is more likely, but..."
"I can’t see any crown at all."
He said from afar, stopping five hundred meters away from White, whose lips tilted slightly at the corners.
"So, you told those fools of Alphanomalous Creatures that you would come check me out, then give them the signal to attack."
He deduced as the man froze.
"But what they don’t know is that you’re never on their side. You’re just deceiving them."
White claimed.
"And what makes you say that?"
He asked, watching the man slowly turn his ringed white eyes toward him.
"You’re the Emissary of Death."
The words made Emissary Exorus visibly shift in surprise.
’How did he know that?’
"Your only reason for existence is to spread chaos and gain energy from destruction, exactly what’ll happen when the Supernaturals get destroyed by the Umbrawyrs."
He concluded without much thought, but then his brows furrowed.
"But I do wonder something."
"As the Emissary of Death, you orchestrated all of this. In fact, the Supernaturals’ victory over the Humans no doubt had your assistance, but... if your goal is to gain more destruction energy from both races wiping each other out..."
"Why would you allow the Supernaturals to leave the Humans alive and reign over them as a higher race?"
"Wouldn’t orchestrating the Supernaturals killing all Humans be the better option for your goal as the Emissary of Death?"
White wondered aloud.
"Unless, in a scenario I would consider impossible..."
White said, turning to look at the Emissary with an amused grin.
"You’ve steered away from the goal you’ve been ordained with."
He said, and the confirmation came when he saw the flicker of hesitation in the eyes of the Emissary.
"What?"
White said.
"Don’t tell me you’ve suddenly come to gain some empathy for Humans."
"I’ve always thought you looked familiar for some reason, but now I know my sense of familiarity wasn’t skewed."
Emissary Exorus said as he stepped forward, landing on the building White stood upon.
"To know this much about me, then you can only be him..."
The closeness allowed him to recognize the face even more clearly, and the conviction in the Emissary solidified.
"White Sinclaw... the Emissary of Life and Souls."
CLAP!
CLAP!
Two claps echoed atop the roof as White grinned.
"Surprised?"
It was a question that needed no answer.
The shock on the Emissary’s face was answer enough.
"The last time I saw you, you appeared to be quite the stubborn one, but to me you were still just a kid, that might have just been a little bit of trouble."
"I could very well still destroy you."
He said, and White didn’t argue it.
The last time he had met this Emissary, though White had slashed open his neck, he couldn’t see the Emissary’s Power Level.
For that reason, the chances of him being able to defeat the Emissary were quite low.
Insanely enough, the White of back then had been so bored that he still slashed open the neck of someone who could very well have been the end of him.
"Has your perception changed now...?"
White asked.
"...Do you still think you can destroy me?"
"How you’ve managed to have the Umbrawyrs listen to you is beyond my understanding."
"But apart from growing four arms and gaining a white complexion. I still don’t see any difference between you and the boy from twenty years ago."
He said to which White simply looked at him with drooping eyes.
But then, a more important thought appeared in his head as he looked at the Emissary.
"What’s your name?"
White suddenly asked,
"I mean your name before you gained the title of Emissary of Death, of course."
"What’s that got to do with anything?"
"For years now..."
White said.
"I have never been confused about which of my enemies I needed to kill and who I needed to leave alive."
"But you..."
"Are you orchestrating the destruction of Humanity and the Supernaturals, as your tittle suggest... or are you secretly the one keeping Humanity alive, against your Code as an Emissary?"
"These two unknowns leave me unsure whether to kill you... or let you live."
