Chapter 287: A Changed World
White’s fists folded in as he looked at the state of the world that had birthed him.
Long gone were the blue skies and white clouds.
All of that had been replaced by nauseating dark, gloomy clouds, with snakes of red lightning crisscrossing through their lengths.
It made the air heavy with suppression, evil itself reeking through the expanse of the world.
He turned away from it, looking down to the ground, and there he could still see the buildings, the tall skyscrapers.
Yet his eyes held no relief, only even more angst at the sight of them.
For one, they were everywhere:
Supernaturals.
At the top buildings in the skyscrapers.
Inside the flying cars zooming through the streets.
Within the jets beneath the skies.
Everywhere he turned, Supernaturals were the ones using Humanity’s amenities.
But there were still Humans.
Many of them.
On the lower floors of most skyscrapers, sitting in cramped desk spaces with monitors before their faces, hands ceaselessly typing away at keyboards.
Inside factory buildings, operating machinery while Supernatural guards hung around them, overseeing the work.
He couldn’t help but notice something peculiar.
Most of the pedestrians, those walking on foot, were Humans.
Flying taxis paused by their sides, but they never got in, even when White could clearly hear the ache in their knees and the unregulated breathing of exhaustion born from long walks.
Instead, the Supernaturals were the ones being picked up, making it clear why they were the only ones White could see in the skies.
The dynamic of things was clear, and it made his teeth unconsciously grind.
[20 Years.]
The System notification panel flashed.
[That was all it took for the Supernaturals to conquer human civilization and relegate Humanity to the status of a lesser race.]
Quietly, White raised his hands, stretching them downward, and blue runic lines began spreading out like cracks across the world below him.
[Don’t, White.]
The panel flashed.
[There are Humans mixed in with the Supernaturals. They’ll be massacred along with them.]
There were a few seconds of silence before slowly his hands withdrew, falling back to his sides.
"I’ll end them all..."
White whispered, his conviction solidifying.
"But before then, I need..."
He paused and then shut his eyes.
There was a second of silence before all at once the world seemed to zoom out through inexplicable ways as White’s perception rushed outward in search of something.
In exactly twenty seconds, he found it.
FLICKER!
A bright blue light illuminated the skies, drawing the attention of both Humans and Supernaturals.
But when they looked upward, they found nothing.
---
"Just as expected."
White called out, a small smile of relief appearing at the corner of his lips.
The world before him was one whose skies still possessed a blue color.
There were buildings too, but not skyscrapers.
Instead, they were mostly large warehouses, with millions, if not billions, of people moving in and out of them:
Humans, and Homo Aetherius, with not a single Supernatural in sight.
There was something about all of this that caught White’s attention, and that was none other than the golden color mixed into everything, with some people even dressed in full golden uniforms.
"Humanity Ascension..."
He whispered.
Even after the Supernaturals had overrun most of human civilization, a remnant of Humanity’s greatest guardian force still remained.
All of a sudden, brilliant flickers of crimson ripped through the sky, most of them concentrating on White, who remained unmoving as the lights scanned him.
[ALERT!]
[ALERT!]
[Unidentified Intruder Detected!]
[Accessing Intruder’s Power Level.]
[Error! Power Level Indeterminable!]
[Threat Category: Calamity!]
[All Galaxy Rank Experts Are To Be Deployed Effective Immediately!]
---
"Wait... did the defense protocol just say Calamity!?"
"Everyone move!"
"Prepare Full Elimination Protocol and standby Evacuation Protocol!"
---
VROOOOOOOOOM!
Space shook heavily as powerful pillars of light burst through the sky.
White watched the ground crack open in several areas, and out from within came gigantic mechs.
In less than five seconds, close to three hundred missile nozzles, each oozing with incredible destructive power, pointed at him from every direction.
"Identify Yourself Or Be Destroyed!"
A threatening roar thundered from thousands of meters away. Within three seconds, twelve humans had already encircled him, each emanating unmistakable Galaxy-Rank power.
Before ten seconds had passed, their number had climbed to twenty.
Arrays were unleashed as powerful runic letters flashed all around White.
They were runic circles carrying effects such as sealing away his Essence Cultivation Core, multiplying gravity by double digit factors, and even hardening the space around him.
Following all that was a chilling silence, as the group of Galaxy Ranked Awakeners stared at the being before them.
Even with the incredible power they were all unleashing, and despite the fact that they had completely trapped him, many of them glanced down at themselves only to find their own bodies shivering uncontrollably.
Normally, it was a common occurrence for a lower-ranked Awakener, say a Meteor Rank, to feel their hair stand on end from the presence of a Galaxy Rank due to the massive difference in power.
But that was hard to explain this phenomenon as the being before them radiated no aura at all.
Some of them were quick to notice that if they closed their eyes, they couldn’t even sense anything standing before them, only a dimness of the area where he stood.
His entire body was mostly hidden beneath the dark robes he wore, and even the one with the sharpest perception among them could not see beyond those robes.
Yet the robe did not cover the upper part of his face, revealing a face that looked very much human.
But the eyes...
His eyes, with the white rings revolving within them, were beyond terrifying.
White’s gaze shifted away from the runes surrounding him and settled on each of the Galaxy Ranked Awakeners.
He could feel their bodies trembling, even though everyone one of them possessed eyes that burned with great conviction.
Conviction that they were ready to do everything within their power to stop him.
What’s more,
...
