Chapter 285: Meeting With The Concept of Life and Souls Once More (II)

"I have yet to read the fate lines of Earth. It consumes too much energy, so I can’t properly say if Humanity as a race would go extinct or not."

She replied to which White scoffed.

"I have no interest in fate lines."

"Let’s talk about common-sense lines, which is that the only chance of Humanity not going extinct is if the Supernaturals ever wish to keep some alive and raise them like farm stocks."

"There is no point in and of itself to recognize a non-existing possibility. This is the reality. The reality of your existence. One that changes everything."

She retorted.

"And I was only interested in it because you say ending the Supernaturals may just give the Emissary of Death enough power to open up another Apexial Doom Rift, which in turn could lead to the possible true extinction of Humanity."

"Since Humanity itself is doomed to extinction without me, I could very well say that concern holds no weight."

"I will get my vengeance on the Supernaturals. And if Humanity ends up getting doomed due to that, then what was supposed to happen simply ended up happening."

White said with a shrug.

"I thought this was about getting revenge for the human lives lost to the Supernaturals."

She spoke.

"As in to say all of this was about me being a ’Hero,’ right?"

He retorted and she paused.

"I’m never a hero, never have been. In fact, I’m what you may call a villain."

"Humanity is merely fortunate that my interests align with theirs. I intend to wipe out those devil-forsaken Supernaturals, and they desire the same. That alone is the reason we cooperate."

"If I reach Earth and find Humanity living in peace with the Supernaturals, and they choose to stand against me when I move to exterminate them... then I will wipe Earth clean."

White said, watching the Concept’s eyes narrow quietly at him.

"And you might call yourself the Concept of Life and Souls, but really..."

White said, turning to her.

"You’re not a Hero either."

"And what are you referencing by that?"

She asked, her eyes returning to their normal shape.

"I initially thought me being your Emissary was due to the fact that you loved Humans and wanted them to live, so you gave one of them power. One that is enough to help the Humans survive their extinction."

"But now I know that is not true."

White said.

"You don’t care about Humanity. You don’t care if Humanity goes extinct, and you definitely did not make me your Emissary for the sake of making Humanity survive."

"After all, just like you said, there are worlds and races that have already been devoured whole and gone extinct due to the existence of the Apexial Doom Rift, and you don’t seem to feel that much pain by uttering that, as if it’s nothing but a simple fact."

"The only reason you seem to care is because of the special soul I was born with. If I never had that soul, Earth would have been just another world that suffered the consequences of the Apexial Doom Rift."

"And even right now, you’re not stopping me from wiping out the Supernaturals because you think that would cause another Apexial Doom Rift to be opened on Earth."

"No, that’s just the excuse."

"What you really want is to make sure that the Concept of Death doesn’t grow stronger, which will happen if I slaughter all Supernaturals."

"If I don’t kill the Supernaturals and head straight to the Emissary of Darkness and kill him like you want, I achieve two things."

"Firstly, the Concept of Death won’t grow stronger."

"Secondly, by killing his Emissary, I weaken him even more. Two results that benefit only one person: You!"

"So all of this argument. All of this ’Humanity doesn’t need revenge, White. It needs peace and protection.’ is all a lie."

"You’re simply manipulating me to achieve your own best interests."

White deduced carefully.

He had always felt the Concept of Souls and Life wasn’t exactly a good person.

It had been manipulating White from day one, even bringing him back to life as it said was a way for it to earn his trust, and all of this was so White would be a chess piece.

One that had utmost belief in her and therefore could be properly used like a slave to achieve her bidding.

Except now, White had already figured her out before he could ever be manipulated into achieving her first bidding.

There was a long silence after his words as he stared quietly at the Concept.

She could easily see it.

Nothing that she said could change his mind of her, but she also knew and could see that their dynamic was hanging by a faint balance, one that might crumble fully if she said nothing in response to his words.

"White Sinclaw..."

She began.

"Would you argue that I have seen more worlds fade into the Void, entire races go extinct, and lived through more eras of existence than you ever have?"

White remained silent.

Truth was... he could argue it.

After all, he had the memories of close to a thousand Umbrawyric Kings in his head, with a timeline that dated back tens of millions of years into the past.

Absolutely he could argue it, but he had no interest in revealing to her that he possessed the memories of all ancient Umbrawyric Kings.

"And what would that have changed?"

He retorted.

"Every action that I take, whether it seems manipulative or evil, is for a greater good that you cannot yet see."

"Don’t you feel it wrong to judge me as evil when you’ve never at all lived close to, or even a tiny quarter of, the years that I’ve lived?"

She asked and this time, there was not much he could refute.

"I am the Concept of Life and Souls. I grow stronger by there being more life and by there being more souls."

"The Concept of Death and Destruction on the other hand, grows stronger by there being less life and fewer souls."

"I might watch entire worlds go extinct, and I might not, as you say, care if Humanity as a race goes extinct or not, but tell me, White."

"If there are two beings, one prospering with more life and less chaos and another prospering with less life and more chaos, which exact one of them aligns positively with each and every soul in existence?"

She asked rhetorically.

"There are events, where you have no choice but to watch the bad happen. You have no choice but to watch some worlds go extinct for a better future."

"There have been billions of plausible choices that I could have made to become my Emissary. Worlds were already being wiped out before you were born, and I could have rushed and panicked into picking someone so that more worlds wouldn’t be destroyed."

"But I waited, White. I watched worlds extinguish and races be destroyed but waited still for that perfect choice. In the end, I made you my Emissary."

"And maybe I did choose to manipulate you into doing my bidding. Manipulated you to gain your trust by only giving you my power after your death, and now I’m also trying to manipulate you into not killing the Supernaturals."

"But look at yourself, White. You’re not exactly the type of soul that just listens to orders either, are you?"

She said, and it was White’s turn to have his eyes narrow.

"You won’t say yes if I simply said go destroy the Emissary of Darkness, neither can you see why I would want to do such."

"Even if you could see my reasons, chances are you wouldn’t care about them and would rather sleep it off instead. You’re a difficult soul."

"So what if I’m a difficult soul?"

White shot back.

"You think manipulation is the only way to get through to me?"

"Do you know, White..."

She asked.

"That if you helped a man at his lowest, say by doing something as simple as giving him water when he was about to die of thirst, he would become indebted to you, and in some cases would even devote his entire life to your cause, whatever it is, without any question whatsoever."

She asked.

"But White... I brought you back to life after Death, and death is one of the lowest of the low a man could ever be, yet you felt no indebtedness at all. All you felt even after it all was still suspicion. Suspicion of being used."

"And were any of my suspicions wrong?"

White retorted.

"No. They were all spot on."

"I don’t feel any indebtedness... and I will never feel any indebtedness toward you helping me in my lowest of lows, simply because you didn’t do it from the kindness of your heart."

"If you save a man dying of thirst by giving him water and having him survive, just to in the next moment put a rope around his neck and ride him through the hot desert sand like a horse."

"Tell me, would he feel indebted towards you for your help!?"
