Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Familiar People, Go and See

After chatting with Chloe Hughes for a while, Faye Yardley saw a familiar person arrive.

It was Eleanor Jonas. You could say she was now the biggest supplier in District 101, selling a bit of everything.

Logan Langdon’s banquet was quite interesting. He let everyone tour his cultivation room and livestock farm.

His automated production workshop wasn’t much to see, but he did briefly mention his main products.

Faye Yardley didn’t try to cozy up to Eleanor Jonas. ’I can just invite her to my raft in a couple of days to chat anyway. No need to get on Logan Langdon’s nerves here.’

Besides, as a guest, Faye Yardley felt she should at least have the basic courtesy of one.

The dinner he prepared was quite lavish, with fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, and fragrant rice.

It had to be said that with his own cultivation and livestock rooms, his standard of living had skyrocketed.

Faye Yardley didn’t hold back. She ate and drank her fill, didn’t interact much with the others, didn’t agree to any of Logan Langdon’s requests, and then simply bid the host farewell and left.

After returning to her raft, she felt a little disappointed in her brother. ’It’s just finding a girlfriend, why doesn’t he even try a little harder?’

’Now he’s got Tiberius trailing him everywhere. Not only is that guy bewitchingly handsome, but he also has ice-blue hair. When they stand together, my brother isn’t outshone, but he doesn’t particularly stand out either.’

As for introducing a girl to her brother, Faye Yardley then felt that none of the girls she knew were good enough for him.

’She really was a walking contradiction with double standards.’

"You’re back, Sister. Did you have fun with your friends?" Willow Yardley asked. "Would you like a glass of juice?"

Faye Yardley shrugged. "It wasn’t about having fun. They’re all people I don’t really know. But seeing how others are doing lets me know where I stand and gives me a goal to strive for, so that’s good."

As she spoke, she took the juice from Willow Yardley, downed more than half of it in one go, and then said, "I’m heading to the training room."

’Everyone else is improving. I can’t get complacent just because I’ve made a little progress.’

’I need to get stronger.’

「Three hours later」 Faye Yardley sat limply in the training room’s rest area.

A call came in from her brother.

"Bro, what’s up?"

"Yeah, Faye. Uncle just contacted me, inviting me to his raft tomorrow as a guest. He said he couldn’t reach you." Ethan Yardley took in his sister’s appearance. "Did you just get out of the training room?"

"Mhm. You don’t want me to go with you, do you?"

"Ahem... I told him our raft isn’t up to the standard for hosting guests yet, so accepting Uncle’s invitation to get together wouldn’t be a bad idea."

Faye Yardley hmphed a couple of times but didn’t voice any further objections.

’Faye Yardley had absolutely no warm feelings for these so-called relatives. When she and her brother needed a helping hand as children, every single one of them had come over just to kick them while they were down.’

’But once her brother gained a firm foothold and took control of the company their mother had founded, they all came crawling back, their attitudes changing in the blink of an eye.’

’It would be strange if she had any goodwill toward them.’

"If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes."

"Fine. It might be good to see how they’re doing. What district are they in?"

"District 1389."

Faye Yardley made an OK gesture, but inwardly she was thinking, ’I’ll try my best to avoid this district if anything good comes up in the future.’

After recovering a bit of stamina, she went back to take a shower, brewed herself a cup of Golden Petal Tea, and then lay in bed to open the public channel and see how everyone else was doing today.

[Why? Why did this happen? My wife is gone. How am I supposed to face our child?]

[o(╥﹏╥)o I can’t find my boyfriend. We weren’t even in the same district to begin with. I survived, so why couldn’t he just hold on a little longer?]

[I guess I’m pretty lucky. All my relatives are still alive, just in different districts. If we all work hard, we can definitely reunite on the third day. I’m so excited.]

[Cross-district travel is so great! You can even go cross-country. Even though an invitation only lets you stay for eight hours at most, it’s better than nothing.]

[You can go cross-country?! Then I’ll search for my relatives abroad and see if they’re okay. If they are, I’ll invite them over for a reunion tomorrow.]

[I don’t have any friends or family. Can someone invite me over? I can be your new friend.]

[This is too hard. Finding a friend is so difficult. There are so many people with the same name. I’m exhausted from clicking on every single avatar to check. There are over thirty thousand people with the same name, and I’ve only gotten through half of them, AHHHH...]

[Can’t the person above just enlarge the avatars? You’ll see fewer people per page, but the avatars will be bigger, so you can tell if it’s them at a glance.]

[Hahaha... I can’t believe there are such clueless idiots. I’m dying of laughter.]

Faye Yardley’s expression froze when she read that. She hadn’t known you could just have the system enlarge all the avatars either. Thankfully, she didn’t have anyone to look for, which saved her a lot of trouble and the embarrassment of being laughed at.

’Even if no one else knew, she knew.’

If this was all there was, there was no point in reading further. She expertly had the system switch to her small group chat. Her brother and Zachary Pierce had both invited her to their huge super-groups.

’She almost never looked at those two groups. Of course, she might glance at them occasionally when she remembered, but she never spoke and wouldn’t even try to grab the Red Envelopes.’

The small group was also lively.

Still, reading the public channel wasn’t a complete waste of time. At least Faye Yardley now knew that an invitation allowed for a maximum stay of eight hours.

The same time limit as the longest-duration Invitation Card.

Leo Sloan: This is great! My wife visited today. She said things aren’t developing as well on her end. It’s a shame she’s in District 128 and can’t move over now. But just knowing she’s alive and well is better than anything.

Bonnie Callahan: Congratulations, Mr. Sloan. It’s wonderful that your wife is safe.

Wade Warren: I got to see some of my relatives and friends today. Of course, some of them weren’t lucky enough to make it this far. All I can say is, in this world, just being alive is a struggle.

Zachary Pierce: That’s right. Just staying alive is hard enough, so everyone must do their best to survive. Live on, and become the hope for others.

Wade Warren: Pierce is always so heartwarming, encouraging people to look forward.

Kyle Lewis: Yeah, I will. I’ll do my best to live a good life. I was so happy to see my mom today. I wish she were nearby, then we could just merge our rafts and stay together forever.

Faye Yardley: The system is sure to release new events later on. Maybe one of them will give you a chance to merge your rafts.

Kyle Lewis: Really? Miss Yardley, do you know what kind of event it will be?

Faye Yardley: I don’t know. But with so many events and so many items, who’s to say there won’t be another way to merge rafts from a long distance?
