Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Her Brother Can, Too
On his raft, Faye Yardley also saw Chloe Hughes of the Fox Clan. Perhaps this was a testament to Logan Langdon’s confidence.
She and he were destined to walk different paths; their mindsets were just too different.
But Faye Yardley hadn’t accepted the invitation to see if she and Logan Langdon could walk the same path.
Aside from greeting the strangers, Faye Yardley was more focused on taking stock of what was on Logan Langdon’s raft.
In addition to the automated workshop and breeding room he already had, he had now also built a planting room and a training room. Even if they were only basic, it meant Logan Langdon possessed even greater resources.
His raft had no Arrow Towers or Energy Protection Towers, but it did have other structures that she didn’t.
The breeding room must have been upgraded; it was clearly larger than the basic planting room.
"Hugh, what’s that hill-like thing next to the house?" Faye Yardley never hesitated to ask about things she didn’t understand.
Hugh Langdon glanced in the direction she was pointing. "Ah," he said. "Miss Hughes put that there. It’s her home."
It really was a small hill, complete with some low-growing trees that added a nice touch to the raft.
"Oh, so it’s Miss Hughes’s home. It’s quite charming."
"It’s pretty special. I heard my cousin mention that it can increase your Cultivation speed or something," Hugh Langdon added casually.
’Cultivation? What’s there to cultivate?!’
’With that kind of time, you’d make more progress in the training room.’
Faye Yardley just said, "Oh," and smiled faintly, as if she agreed with Hugh Langdon.
Xavier Thatcher had been following them the whole time. The more he looked at Faye Yardley, the more she resembled the person he was thinking of, yet she seemed like such a peaceful young woman now.
She had none of the vicious aura from that time on Hailey Miles’s raft.
’Could it really just be due to some deep, irreconcilable hatred between the two of them?!’
Faye Yardley stopped in her tracks and suddenly turned, tilting her head. "Mr. Thatcher," she asked in confusion, "you’ve been staring at me ever since I set foot on Mr. Langdon’s raft. Do I know you? Or do I just look like someone you know?"
"Ah, no—yes, that’s right." Xavier Thatcher was flustered and didn’t know how to respond, but he answered honestly, "You look a lot like someone. It’s just... she was wearing a mask at the time."
Faye Yardley smiled faintly. She was about to pull a mask from her backpack to tease this upstanding fellow, but just then, Logan Langdon approached with Chloe Hughes.
Chloe Hughes reached a hand out to her, a captivating smile on her face. "What a coincidence. I never expected to meet Ms. Yardley here."
Faye Yardley raised an eyebrow. "You know me?"
"You’re a guest of honor to Island Master Nash; it’s not surprising that I know of you. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Chloe Hughes." This was also Chloe Hughes’s way of reminding Logan Langdon to stop paying so much attention to the young woman before him. Whatever her relationship with Island Master Nash, it wasn’t Logan’s place to interfere.
Faye Yardley looked at Chloe Hughes and gave a knowing smile. "Hello. I’m Faye Yardley."
Chloe Hughes appreciated intelligent people like Faye Yardley. She said directly, "Let me entertain Ms. Yardley. You men can go about your business."
She then shot Logan Langdon a look that brooked no argument, gave Hugh Langdon a slightly apologetic smile, and gestured invitingly toward Faye Yardley. "Ms. Yardley, let’s go sit in that pavilion. Even with the sunshade, the sun is still quite strong here."
"Miss Hughes, please, call me Faye."
"Faye, this way. Let’s get away from these stinky men."
Faye Yardley followed Chloe Hughes to the pavilion at the foot of her small hill. There really were trees and flowers, and the hill itself provided shade, creating a pleasant coolness.
’You had to admit, Logan Langdon’s luck was incredible. Chloe Hughes was clearly no ordinary member of the Fox Clan.’
’If she hadn’t intercepted Yvonne Lynch, he’d probably have a woman on each arm by now.’
Logan Langdon looked at Xavier Thatcher and said, "Mr. Thatcher, Miss Yardley is my guest. I hope you won’t do anything foolish."
"By saying that, are you admitting Miss Yardley killed Hailey, Mr. Langdon?"
Logan Langdon frowned. "I didn’t say that, and I didn’t mean that. Hal knows best how Hailey Miles died. But you’ve been following Miss Yardley and staring at her like she’s a criminal. Isn’t that incredibly rude?"
Xavier Thatcher fell silent. Hugh Langdon clapped him on the shoulder and said to Logan Langdon, "Cousin, go ahead and greet the other guests. I’ll have a talk with Mr. Thatcher. Besides, Miss Yardley didn’t seem upset with him earlier."
Logan Langdon glanced between them. "She is my guest, and so are you, Mr. Thatcher. I don’t want you two fighting over trivial matters."
To Logan Langdon, if Hailey Miles were still alive, it might be worth discussing. But she was long dead, so what was the point of dwelling on it?
Didn’t people die every day in this World of Ocean Survival?
But he couldn’t bring himself to dislike a person like Mr. Thatcher; the man’s sense of justice was just too strong.
He’d just leave him with his cousin.
Once Logan Langdon had walked away, Hugh Langdon said with a laugh, "Mr. Thatcher, don’t take my cousin’s words to heart. But you know, staring at Miss Yardley like that could really make people suspect you have... special intentions toward her."
Xavier Thatcher sighed. "Hugh, about Hailey’s death... never mind. I know it was an accident. It’s just, Miss Yardley looks exactly like the person who tried to kill Hailey before. Every time I see her..."
"Mr. Thatcher, I know you’re a loyal man, but we’re not living in a peaceful world anymore. You have to learn to let some things go. After all, we only knew Hailey Miles for a few days, didn’t we?"
Meanwhile, Faye Yardley and Chloe Hughes were getting along surprisingly well. It was mainly because Chloe Hughes was so charming and pleasant; it was hard to get angry with a person like her.
Faye Yardley thought to herself, ’The heavens must be blind for Logan Langdon to have such a capable partner like Chloe Hughes. What does he even have going for him?’
’There are plenty of handsome men out there. Why does he get to be the lucky one?’
’It’s infuriating! Why is it that her wonderful, handsome brother is stuck with that detestable Tiberius, while a smooth-talking scoundrel like Logan Langdon gets the devastatingly charming Chloe Hughes?!’
’Where exactly did her brother lose out?’
’And Zachary Pierce is responsible and handsome, a great guy! But he can’t seem to attract any Otherkin beauties either.’
"Faye, try some of these sunflower seeds. Logan Langdon grew and roasted them himself."
True to her nature, Faye voiced her question. "Thanks. Miss Hughes, why did you choose to follow Mr. Langdon?"
Chloe Hughes was taken aback for a second, then smiled. "Because Logan Langdon is a great man, of course."
Faye Yardley blinked her eyes at Chloe Hughes, her expression a silent question. ’What’s so great about him? He’s just one of those guys who’s never satisfied.’
Her stare made Chloe Hughes blush.
Then, as if she’d had a sudden epiphany, Faye Yardley said, "Ohhh."
’Damn it! That beast Logan Langdon really has some intense tastes.’ But then she looked at Chloe Hughes and felt indignant again. ’My brother could totally do that too! He’s more than capable!’
