Chapter 120: Button It For Me
Still shirtless. Still wearing only the towel. Close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body. Close enough that she could smell him, that intoxicating combination of shower soap and something uniquely masculine and purely him.
Her breath caught audibly.
"The shirt," he said, his voice low and calm despite the proximity.
She handed it to him with trembling hands, trying not to notice the way his fingers brushed against hers as he took it. Trying not to be aware of how close he was standing. Trying not to think about what would happen if she turned around.
He pulled the shirt on, the wet fabric clinging to his still-damp chest and shoulders, outlining every defined muscle beneath. The shirt fit him perfectly, tailored to emphasize his broad shoulders and narrow waist.
When he finished pulling it on, he looked at her directly.
"Button it for me."
The request sent a jolt of electricity through her entire body.
Lilith stepped forward...she had no choice, it was physically necessary to button his shirt, and her world narrowed to just him. To the proximity. To the overwhelming sensory experience of being this close to him while he stood shirtless above her just moments before.
Her hands shook as she reached for the first button at his waist.
She could feel his eyes on her face. Could feel the weight of his attention like a physical force. Could feel her own body responding with visceral intensity to the intimacy of the task.
The first button.

She could smell him, that intoxicating scent that made her dizzy. Her hands were trembling so badly she could barely manage the button.
"What the fuck are you doing in there with her, Nicholas?" Sebastian’s voice came through the mindlink, sharp with jealousy and barely contained need.
The second button.
She was stepping closer with each one, her chest nearly brushing against his as she worked upward. Her breathing was shallow and rapid. Her heart was hammering so hard she thought it might break through her ribs.
"I can smell her arousal from my room. You motherfucker, you have her in your room and you won’t let us go near her. So what the fuck are you doing now, brother?" Sebastian’s mental voice was darker now, more desperate, the jealousy mixing with raw hunger.
The third button.
She was acutely aware of how close she was to his bare skin. Aware that one wrong move, one slip of her hand, and she’d be touching him directly. Aware that the intimacy of this moment was overwhelming in ways she didn’t understand.
"The next time you tell me not to go near her, I’m going to punch your poker face. I can smell her. She’s ours. Let us in there." Lucian’s voice came through the bond, raw with need and possessiveness, the words practically vibrating with Zev’s desperation.
The fourth button.
Her eyes were fixed on the buttons, unable to look up at his face. Unable to meet his gaze. Unable to process what this moment meant or why he’d requested this specific task.
"Patience. This is strategy. She needs to understand what she is to us on her own terms. Trust the plan," Nicholas’s mental voice came through, carrying absolute alpha authority even through the bond. His composure was absolute, even as his brothers raged around him mentally.
The fifth button.
Almost done. Almost finished with this torture of proximity and overwhelming awareness.
"How much longer can you stay in there with her without losing control, Nicholas?" Lucian asked through the bond, his voice shaking with the effort of maintaining distance.
"As long as it takes," Nicholas responded, his mental voice steady even as Lilith felt his breathing become slightly heavier beneath her hands.
The sixth and final button.

She stepped back quickly, desperate to create distance between them. Her entire body was trembling. Her legs felt weak. Her mind was spinning with confusion and need and anger at herself for feeling that need.
For a moment, there was silence.
Then Nicholas spoke, his voice calm and controlled despite the slight heaviness of his breathing.
"Thank you, Lilith. That will be all for now."
The dismissal was clear.
"Go prepare for the Summit events," he continued. "Make sure you eat before leaving. You’ll need your strength."
Lilith nodded, unable to trust her voice to form words. She turned toward the door with movements that felt disconnected from her body, like she was watching herself move from outside herself.
She opened the door and stepped into the corridor.
The moment the door closed behind her, her legs nearly gave out.
She had to grip the wall to steady herself, her entire body shaking with the aftermath of proximity and overwhelming sensory overload. Her hands were still trembling. Her legs were unsteady. Her mind was reeling.
She walked slowly back toward her room, hyper-aware of every warrior and staff member who passed her. Did they know? Could they see what she’d just experienced?
The thought made her flush even deeper.
By the time she reached her room, she was barely holding herself together. She closed the door behind her and sank onto the edge of her bed, her entire body shaking.
What was happening to her?
How was her body responding to him this way when her mind was screaming that she should hate him?
During the contract, she’d survived by dissociating. By removing herself mentally from what was happening to her body. By refusing to engage emotionally with any of it.
But this...this was different. This was her body responding involuntarily to his presence. This was her nipples hardening at the sight of him. This was wetness pooling between her legs simply from being close to him.

And the worst part was: she couldn’t explain it. Couldn’t rationalize it. Couldn’t do anything except acknowledge that something fundamental had shifted inside her.
She pressed her hands to her face, trying to process what had just happened.
The intimacy of buttoning his shirt. The proximity. The way he’d stood behind her. The way his eyes had tracked her movements. The way her body had responded so completely and so viscerally.
She should be horrified. Should be planning her escape. Should be disgusted by her own response.
But instead, she found herself sitting in the quiet of her room, her body still burning with awareness, and wondering what would happen the next time he summoned her.
And most troubling of all: wondering if part of her was actually hoping for a next time.
The realization made her bury her face in her hands.
This was madness. This was a betrayal of everything she believed about herself. This was her body and her mind at war with each other in ways she couldn’t reconcile.
She forced herself to stand on shaky legs and move through the motions of preparing for the afternoon’s Summit events. She changed into fresh clothes. She tried to eat something, but her stomach was too churning with confusion and need and anger at herself.
All the while, one thought kept repeating in her mind:
She wanted to go back to his room.
And she hated herself for that want with every fiber of her being.
