Chapter 64: Chapter 64: The Interview

「Early the next morning.」

Qin Hongguo and Luo Xianglan were busy helping Qin Tuo prepare for his interview.

Just then, Qin Hongguo’s phone rang.

He answered and was immediately surprised.

"Hello? Ke Xin, is that you..."

Qin Hongguo was about to make some small talk, but Zhou Kexin cut in, her voice full of displeasure:

"I’m already here. Why isn’t your son out yet?"

Her words were completely devoid of any courtesy.

Qin Hongguo said with an awkward laugh:

"He’s almost ready, almost ready. Sorry to trouble you, Ke Xin. I’ll get Qin Tuo to come out right away."

"What? He’s still not out yet?"

Zhou Kexin’s brow furrowed, and she couldn’t help but start complaining.

"It’s not my place to say, but since it’s your son who’s looking for a job, he should be more invested. How can you make me wait for him? He really doesn’t know how to act!"

Faced with her complaints, Qin Hongguo could only apologize profusely, his face a mask of embarrassment.

"Hurry up and get him out here. I’m leaving in five minutes. I’m a very busy person, you know! I don’t have time to waste on this stupid errand!"

The more Zhou Kexin spoke, the more worked up she got, her face a picture of impatience.

After hanging up, she couldn’t help but complain about her own father.

’Dad is unbelievable. This country bumpkin is just a lost cause. Why bother helping him?’

Although she was extremely unwilling, her father’s command could not be defied.

So, with no other choice, she had to come and pick up Qin Tuo herself.

Meanwhile, Qin Hongguo hurried his son along.

"Hurry up! She’s been waiting for a long time. How can you make a girl wait for you!"

"Dad, I’m done."

Qin Tuo nodded and came out of the bathroom.

Luo Xianglan, her face full of concern, reminded him:

"Son, hurry up. After all, a young woman is coming to pick you up personally. That’s a huge favor she’s doing for you."

"Mom, I know."

Qin Tuo understood. This was his first time looking for a job after getting out of prison, so his parents couldn’t help but be worried.

"Oh, right, son. When you get there, remember to be polite and enthusiastic. Whatever you do, don’t talk back to her."

Luo Xianglan started nagging again.

After washing up, Qin Tuo left the house without even eating breakfast.

When he reached the entrance of the residential complex, he could see Zhou Kexin’s disgusted expression even from a great distance.

Seeing Qin Tuo emerge, Zhou Kexin finally rolled her eyes at him in irritation.

"Qin Tuo, your clothes are so old-fashioned! Aren’t you embarrassing me by dressing like that?!"

Qin Tuo felt helpless but couldn’t be bothered to argue with her.

Zhou Kexin then pointed at the entrance to the complex, her face full of revulsion.

"I mean, what kind of shithole is this? It smells like crap everywhere! I can’t believe you can stand living here. If it were me, I would’ve thrown up by now!"

Qin Tuo said coldly:

"Shall we go, young miss?"

Still muttering and cursing, Zhou Kexin finally got in the car and drove Qin Tuo toward the company.

Soon, they arrived at an office building in the city center.

Once there, Qin Tuo found the company’s name a bit strange.

’Mani Daily Chemicals Co., Ltd.?’

Surprised, he quickly asked:

"Miss Zhou, what is the relationship between this company and Chen Man Ni?"

"Huh? Chen Man Ni?"

Zhou Kexin looked completely surprised and asked in return,

"Wait, that’s not right. How do you know our boss, Miss Chen Man Ni?"

Only then did Qin Tuo realize what a coincidence it was—this company was actually under Chen Man Ni.

He shook his head and said casually:

"I’ve just heard her name, that’s all. After all, Chen Man Ni is one of the three ’Golden Flowers’ of Ming City!"

Only then did Zhou Kexin nod in satisfaction, saying contemptuously:

"That’s more like it. I was wondering how someone like you could possibly know Chen Man Ni!"

Qin Tuo didn’t stoop to her level, simply treating her as if she were thin air.

Zhou Kexin couldn’t help but show off.

"This company has quite the background. It’s an enterprise of the Chen Family, Ming City’s wealthiest family. The richest man in the city opened it for his daughter, and it’s already a publicly listed company."

Her words were filled with pride.

"Oh, I see."

Qin Tuo deliberately nodded and smiled, looking at Zhou Kexin as if she were a clown.

This made Zhou Kexin even more smug, her expression beaming as she said:

"Qin Tuo, the fact that a punk like you gets to enter this company with me is a blessing you must have earned in a past life. So once you’re in, remember to keep your head down and behave yourself. Don’t try any funny business!"

Qin Tuo just shook his head and gave a faint smile, not bothering to refute anything.

Just then, Zhou Kexin suddenly stopped the car and urged Qin Tuo.

"Get out already! What are you waiting for?"

Qin Tuo was a little confused.

"But we haven’t gone in yet, have we?"

Zhou Kexin let out a cold laugh.

"In your dreams. If people saw me getting out of the car with you, wouldn’t they all know I’m the one who brought you? I don’t want to be associated with you in the slightest."

Qin Tuo was speechless. ’This woman is way too calculating, isn’t she?’

Zhou Kexin said coldly,

"When you go in later, just say you’re here for an interview. Don’t you dare tell anyone in the company that you know me. Got it?"

Looking at Qin Tuo, Zhou Kexin sneered inwardly.

She didn’t want the company employees thinking she associated with an ex-convict.

"Fine. We’ll do it your way."

Qin Tuo didn’t object. He got out of the car and walked straight toward the company.

Just as Qin Tuo was walking away, a man appeared in front of Zhou Kexin.

"Ke Xin, why are you so late today?"

This was Zhou Kexin’s boyfriend, the company’s sales manager, Wang Lei.

Irritably, Zhou Kexin touched her forehead and said in frustration,

"Isn’t it all that guy’s fault? He almost made me late."

Wang Lei’s eyes narrowed slightly as he stared at Qin Tuo’s back.

"Oh? Ke Xin, who’s that? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him before."

There was already a hint of hostility in his tone.

Zhou Kexin quickly explained,

"Wang Lei, don’t get the wrong idea. I have nothing to do with him. My dad forced me to arrange a job for him, didn’t he? Once he’s in the company, he’s probably going to be a huge pain!"

"Oh? Your dad is arranging a job for him?"

Wang Lei nodded, silently speculating about Qin Tuo’s background.

Zhou Kexin saw right through Wang Lei’s thoughts and sneered.

"That punk isn’t anyone impressive. He’s just from an ordinary family, and he’s even been to prison. If my dad and his dad didn’t have some history, why would I have bothered to come here personally?"

Wang Lei immediately puffed out his chest and declared,

"Don’t worry. I’ll be one of the gatekeepers during the interview. I’ll just fail the guy directly."

Although Wang Lei wasn’t the main interviewer, as the sales department manager and a company veteran, he still had the power to do so.

Zhou Kexin nodded, but then she suddenly remembered something, and her expression became troubled.
