Chapter 479: Chapter 479 - S-Ranked Dungeon(Part 5)

I swooped down as a massive wave of flames came barreling towards me, before I shot forward and zipped up, unfurling a crushing uppercut and slamming it against the bottom of the Monster’s lower jaw.

Its head jerked straight up upon impact, blood trickling out of its mouth before it snarled and whipped its tail at me, which narrowly whizzed past the front of my chest as I flew back.

"You sure are a sturdy one, aren’t you?" I remarked, as it eyed me warily.

We were upto floor eighty now, and we finally ran into some Dragons on the seventy-sixth floor.

They’re just bigger, faster, stronger and more durable versions of Wyverns, blades aren’t all that effective against them because of how big they are, but piercing attacks and blunt strikes have been working really well.

I’ve been using my fists and tail, while Celes has been firing concentrated beams of lightning at them. While they are faster than the Wyverns were, they’re also much bigger, which makes them easier targets to hit.

If we didn’t have powerful, effective piercing attacks in our arsenals, these things definitely would’ve been a pretty stiff challenge, we’d have no choice but to keep chipping away and wearing them down bit by bit, which would take ages.

Also, they have a higher flame resistance than Wyverns do, so beyond inflicting shallow external burns, my blue flames aren’t all that effective against them.

As the Dragon I was fighting began to fly back, I sent my tail shooting towards the middle of its neck, the Monster quickly veered across to its left, before roaring in pain as my tail plunged into the right side of its neck.

It began to try and claw my tail out, before I swiftly split my tail in two and dragged them across either direction within its neck, tearing its head off as I sliced through its throat.

A loud crash rang out as Celes unleashed a powerful, concentrated slashing wave of lightning, slicing open the neck of one of the last two remaining Dragons on this floor, searing its exposed flesh and killing it.

And that just leaves one...I’d severed its right arm with my tail earlier, and it had been keeping its distance ever since, after using its flames to cauterize the wound and stop the bleeding.

It flew across as Celes unleashed a powerful blast of lightning at it, before firing out a scorching wave of flames towards me as I shot towards it.

I swallowed up the flames with Magic Eater as they closed in on me, before unleashing a powerful flap of my wings along with a burst of pressurized flames from the soles of my feet to launch myself forward with a sharp boost in speed, a deafening roar of pain ringing out as I shot past the right side of the Dragon’s head, transforming my left hand into a blade and slashing at its right eye, blinding it as blood gushed out and streamed down the side of its face.

It snarled and began to turn, before I drove my tail into its right side, tearing through its scales and flesh before worming towards its hard.

It tried to grab and pull my tail out with its back leg, before a violent shudder of pain erupted across its body as I pierced its heart, splitting my tail and two and thrashing it out about inside the Monster’s body, tearing its heart to shreds.

Blood poured out of its mouth as I pulled my tail back out, whipping it across to get the blood off as the Dragon went limp and plummeted down, its large body slamming against the ground with a deafening crash, a cloud of dust rising up around it.

I descended back down, my feet hitting the ground with a soft thud as Celes came jogging over.

"Hm? Hey, looks like you got hurt, you okay?" I asked her, as I noticed a shallow cut across her left bicep.

"Yeah, I’m fine, it’s just a scratch, one of the Dragons grazed me with a claw. Guess I got a bit careless, I could’ve dodged it but I misread the distance and didn’t jump back far enough," She replied, before wiping her sleeve across her forehead.

Looks like the fatigue is starting to catch up to her, I’m starting to feel a bit worn out myself.

"Wanna take another break?"

"No, I think I’ve got enough energy left to cover one more floor," She shook her head.

"Well, if you’re really sure..."

"Mhm, don’t worry, I can handle it. Come on, let’s go," She responded, stretching her arms up as she began to head for the next floor.

Hm, she doesn’t look all that exhausted, she’s definitely tired, but it does seem like she’s still got some gas in the tank.

Just to be safe, I should stick closer to her on the next floor. She may be strong, but without healing or regeneration, a single misstep could prove fatal.

It wasn’t long before we reached the path heading up to the next floor, the two of us making our way up the tunnel, before a large doorway came into sight. Wait, is this...

"Huh, looks like we reached the Boss Room. I figured we’d have at least one or two more floors before we got here," She remarked in surprise, before adding as she glanced at me, "Shall we go in? I’m certainly up for it if you are."

"Well, that depends, what kind of Monster are we likely to face in there?"

"Probably a stronger Dragon. Besides X-Ranked Unique Monsters, there’s nothing stronger than S-Rank, but individuals of a species can get stronger than average with age and experience. Unique Monsters are extremely rare, so the chances of running into one are pretty slim at best," She replied.

"Alright, then...let’s finish this off," I nodded, before she pushed the doors open, the two of us stepping in through the doorway.

"Finally, I was starting to get bored!" A voice rang out gleefully, as the doors suddenly slammed shut behind us.

Slim at best, huh? Yeah, go figure...
