Chapter 440: Chapter 440 - Balance(Part 8)
"Everyone, stay back!" I exclaimed, before continuing, "Pair up and keep your distance, watch each other’s backs! I’ll fight him myself!"
"Hm?" Responded the being, tilting his head in confusion and easing off.
"What? Are you insane!?" Shot back Satan incredulously.
"No way, we’re not letting you fight him alone!" Added Argent in agreement.
"Yeah, if you’re joking, it isn’t funny," Nodded Ilex with a grimace.
"I’m serious here...it’s clear to me that, for whatever reason, my attacks are the only ones that have any effect against him! I’m not telling you to run away, just to keep your distance, keep your guards up, and back me up when you get the opportunity!"
"Even if that’s true, we can’t just-...!" Began Izzy, before trailing off as the being suddenly teleported a few meters ahead of me.
"You are quite sharp, it is rather alarming that you noticed that in such a short time. What are you? You appear to be human, but if you were, I would be able to sense you. But while I can see you, I cannot sense your existence in the slightest...all I can feel is a strange, unnatural sensation when I gaze upon you, you should not exist here. So, I’ll ask you again...what are you?" He remarked as he stared at me.
"Why don’t you go first? Just what the hell are you, anyway? And why are you attacking us?" I inquired with a frown.
"Attacking? No, you’re quite mistaken...I am balancing, not attacking. I am simply known as the Balancer, and as the name suggests, my role is to bring balance to this world."
"Balance? What does that have to do with killing us? Did you kill everyone in the Light Continent too?"
"The Light Continent? Ah, you must mean the other half of the world...yes, I eliminated all intelligent life there. But make no mistake, it was not out of malice, but rather, necessity. The world is out of balance, and it must be rectified. And the surest way to accomplish that, would be to wipe to slate clean and start over," He informed me.
Out of balance? Not sure exactly what that means, but I’m guessing Dracula’s death was the tipping point in the scales. It triggered the appearance of this so-called Balancer...those damned Vampires, none of this would be happening if they hadn’t picked a fight with us and forced our hand.
"I see, I don’t fully get it, but I think I understand the gist of why you’re here. One last question, what’s your problem with me specifically?"
"You are an anomalous presence, the fact that I cannot sense your existence is proof of that. Therefore, you cannot be allowed to exist, your very existence is a threat to the balance of the world. Now, then...you may have figured out that your attacks are the only attacks in the world that can damage me, but even so, why would you choose to fight me alone?"
Because the more the fight drags out, the better he’ll get at using his abilities, his movements and attacks will just keep getting sharper and sharper with every exchange.
And with the others’ attacks ineffective against him, they’ll only get more and more vulnerable to him to more he gets used to their attacks and the more they run out of Mana and stamina.
I’m not about to let any of them die...but they’d likely never accept that reasoning, logical as it may be. Not to mention, with so many of us fighting at the same time, we have to be careful not to hit each other, especially those of us who can use Dragon Fire, along with Satan’s Obliteration.
But if it’s one-on-one and I don’t have to worry about accidentally hitting the others, I can attack him with reckless abandon, before he gets too strong to deal with. Of course, I’m not about to tell him any of that.
"I simply believe that I’m more than enough by myself to defeat you. That’s all there is to it. And I see no reason for you to refuse...you intend to kill all of us either way, right, regardless of the order? If the others continue to fight with me, the battle will drag on, and I might be able to discern more of your weaknesses. But if you eliminate me first, there’ll be no one left that’s a threat to you," I pointed out.
"I do not understand why you would propose this when it favors me so heavily...so, of course, I see no reason to refuse. However, it would appear as though these other creatures have no intention of letting you fight alone, therefore...," He trailed off, before a massive barrier suddenly formed and expanded around us rapidly, pushing the others away.
"Shit! Get out of there, Larrk!" Exclaimed Argent, pounding on the barrier, but to no avail.
"Damn it! Even my Obliteration can’t break through it!" Remarked Satan, as he fired blasts at the barrier, but couldn’t so much as scratch it.
"There, now no one can interfere. Hm...this is a rather weak barrier, I had intended on casting a stronger one, but it seems that will not be possible with my current power. Even casting this one means that I cannot use my ability to drain life force so long as it is active...but no matter, I cannot use that ability against you, after all. And as weak as this barrier may be, it should be strong enough that none of these other creatures can-..."
I then cut him off with a concentrated bolt of lightning, hitting the middle of his body and sending him flying back several meters through the air.
"You don’t seem to have any emotions, so you probably didn’t mean anything by it, but...I’ll thank you not to refer to them as ’creatures’, make sure to keep that in mind...Balancer," I stated icily...
