Chapter 437: Chapter 437 - Balance(Part 5)
"Alright, we’ve informed the scouts on what to look out for. If they catch sight of that white being, they’re to report it to us immediately. If and when that happens, we’ll head out there right away and kill it," I stated as I looked around at the others.
"Are you really sure it’ll come here, though?" Chimed in Argent.
About half an hour had passed since I returned from the Light Continent, and after telling Satan and Lumena what had happened, I called the others to inform them as well.
I also contacted the other nations and let them know. Assuming that being is the one who’s responsible for all those dead people I saw, and he probably is, I’d say there’s a good possibility that he will make his way here.
"Yeah, pretty sure. If I’m right and that being killed all those people, the natural assumption would be that he killed everyone in the Light Continent. And if that is the case, he’ll probably come to the Dark Continent next. Of course, I am making a lot of assumptions here, I could be wrong, I certainly hope I am. I mean, I don’t even have a clue as to why he killed all the people of the Light Continent. But I have a strong gut feeling that I’m not wrong, I can’t shake the feeling that he’s coming for us," I replied with a grimace.
"What is this being, anyway? And why show up now?" Inquired Lucifer with a frown.
"Your guess is as good as mine, I’m afraid," I responded as I shook my head.
"Hm...the first wave of energy happened shortly after Dracula was defeated, right? Could that have been the trigger?" Suggested Ilex uncertainly.
The timing would certainly fit if that was the case...but we just don’t have enough information to know for sure.
"So, how powerful should we assume this thing to be? We should probably err on the side of caution and overestimate," Suggested Pavorphobus objectively.
"Yeah, I agree...but I have no idea how strong that being could possibly be. Dracula is definitely the most powerful individual I’ve fought, and if we assume that this being is even more powerful than he was, well...frankly, I wouldn’t be too confident about our odds if that’s the case," I replied grimly.
"Indeed, and we have no idea what kind of abilities this thing possesses. Dracula may have been powerful, with a seemingly endless arsenal of attacks, but we at least knew how his power worked; by speaking to activate it, and we countered it accordingly. This time, we’re up against a complete unknown," Nodded Satan with a look of concern.
"Well, we do know that this being can teleport, so we can at least look out for that," Pointed out Argent.
"And also that he can kill people without injuring them. If that’s something he can do from a distance, we’re screwed. If I had to guess, I’d say he likely has to touch them, or at least get close, to do that, but we should probably keep our distance until we know for sure," Surmised Izzy thoughtfully.
"We should decide which of us should face him if and when he shows up," I remarked in response.
"Yes, we should...I’d say it should be you, us Demons, the Dragon Kings, Ilex Sarralot and Argent Stryker," Suggested Satan after mulling it over.
"Hey! What about me?" Frowned Izzy indignantly.
"Well, er..."
"This is no time to be protective, we need to face this threat with all our strongest individuals, and I definitely qualify," She stated with a huff.
"Honestly, I’d prefer it if you sat this out too," Spoke up Argent, before adding, "Frielektra agrees with me, by the way."
"No way. You’re not excluding me from this, there’s too much at stake. If this being turns out to be super powerful, more so than we can handle, we’ll all die anyway, so it won’t make a difference. And if he isn’t that strong, then we’ll have just overprepared, in which case, we lose nothing. There’s no logical reason for me to sit this out," She declared firmly.
"I agree, she is immensely powerful, it would be a waste not to have her with us," Nodded Aereeze in agreement.
"Then, it’s settled!" Stated Izzy definitively.
"Alright, then, fine...but you cannot be reckless, exercise the utmost caution and-...," Began Satan.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m not stupid."
"Okay, I guess all that’s left to do now is wait," I sighed as I slumped back in my seat.
"Wait, are we just going to sit here the whole time while we wait? Because who knows how long it’ll take for that being to show up. It could be hours, even days, and there’s still the possibility that he won’t even show up at all, so-...," Began Argent, before trailing off as the phone I’d set on the table in front of me rang out.
"It’s one of the scouts. This might be it," I remarked with a grimace, as I picked up the phone and answered it, a sense of dread welling up inside me as I put it up to my ear.
"Huh, maybe I spoke too soon," Muttered Argent in bemusement.
"I think it’s here! We just spotted a glowing white being approaching through the Dead Zone! Should we attack it?"
"No, retreat immediately, all of you. We’ll take it from here," I instructed, before hanging up and looking around at the others as I added, "Alright, guys, looks like the being is here. Let’s head out there and kill it before it can do any damage."
