Chapter 433: Chapter 433 - Balance(Part 1)
"Ahh...I really needed this. The whole Vampire thing was immensely stressful, but now that we’ve dealt with that particular threat and have nothing else serious to worry about, I feel so relaxed," Grinned Argent, as he took a puff of a joint and exhaled through his nostrils.
"You said it. I mean, we did suffer some pretty heavy losses, but it could’ve been a lot worse," I nodded, as he passed the joint to me.
About a week had passed since the end of the battle against the Vampires, and things are settling back down.
Once the vast majority of the Lesser Vampires had been culled, with a handful managing to flee and escape, we scoured the Light Continent and liberated any and all slaves we came across.
Most of them were humans with either the Dark or both Attributes, some of which were people who had been kidnapped from the Dark Continent, and there were a number of Demi-Humans too.
All the Demi-Human slaves joined Arcadia, while most of the human slaves with the Dark Attribute went back to the nations they had been abducted from, while those with both Attributes joined Arcadia as well.
As for the citizens of the Light Continent...we just left them be. They’re not a threat to us, so we don’t really need to do anything.
Of course, if they do try to start a conflict or something, we’ll wipe them out with hesitation, but so long as they keep to themselves, we’ll do the same.
Anyway, I was currently chilling with some of the others, just taking it easy with some weed and booze, cuz why not?
With the last major obstacle to my ultimate goal of a peaceful life in this world eliminated, I just feel totally over the moon here.
I mean, sure, there’s every chance that more threats will pop up in the future, but it’s unlikely that we’ll face anything on the same level as the threat that the Vampires posed, and even if we do, well...we’ll just have to cross that bridge if and when we get to it.
But for now, things are great, and I intend to savor every second of it.
"You seem to be in a significantly better headspace now," Satan said to Ilex.
"Yeah, I guess so...it still hurts, and it’ll be a long time before I can even begin to move on, but...I suppose I just have to keep moving forward. I know she wouldn’t want me to wallow forever," He replied with a sad smile.
Poor guy, I wish there was something I could do to help cheer him up. But all things considered, the only thing that can really heal him now is time.
"Not to bring down the mood, but I’ve been thinking, and we should probably come up with a range of countermeasures for any potential threats that may show up in the future. Honestly, this battle against the Vampires went a lot better than I’d have anticipated, it could have turned out a lot worse," Reasoned Lucifer thoughtfully.
"Don’t worry about that, I’ve got plans for a whole lot of new Magic Items in the works, Arcadia will have defenses the likes of which have never been seen before by the time I’m done," Responded Lumena confidently.
"Oh, that’s encouraging to hear."
"Don’t push yourself too hard though. It’s not like we’ve got any imminent threats on the horizon, so you can afford to take it easy and go at it at a more leisurely pace," I pointed out.
"Huh, aren’t you the one who’s always telling us not to say stuff like that because it’ll jinx us or whatever?" Spoke up Izzy with a raised eyebrow.
Uh...yeah, that’s a good point. Here’s hoping that’s nothing more than a superstition. Because, at this point, I’m sick and tired of life or death battles, I-...
"What...!?" Blurted out Satan, as an immense, ominous wave washed over us.
That’s...that’s the same energy we felt shortly after Dracula died. But it’s much, much stronger than it was last time...you’ve gotta be fucking kidding me, what the hell is going on now!?

Point-of-View: Caera

Hm? What-...I recognize this, it’s the same energy signature I felt after I escaped the battle. But this time, it’s so much more intense, terrifyingly so...
I warily stepped out of the cave I had been hiding out in, looking around cautiously. The energy burst out like a shockwave, and it felt like the epicenter was close by.
But I don’t see anything or anyone around, maybe it wasn’t as close as I thought? It did feel like it was covering a massive area, possibly the entire world, or at least close to it.
Perhaps I should find a new hiding place, I’ve never felt anything so unsettling bef-...
I then stiffened as I sensed an ominous presence behind me, before quickly spreading out my wings and zipping away, turning around as I moved a fair distance away from the presence, my eyes widening as I caught sight of a strange figure.
What...what the hell is that?
A tall, muscular humanoid body, about eight feet in height. It was fully white and had a slight glow to it, it had a pair of gleaming blue slits where eyes would be, but it had no nose, mouth or ears.
"Who or what are you? What do you want with me?" I inquired as I backed away, the sight of the strange being filling me with an instinctive fear.
"I am simply here to restore balance, nothing more. This world is far too damaged at this point...I must wipe the slate clean and start anew."
His voice...it’s echoing in my head. He isn’t speaking out loud, his words are flowing directly into my mind.
"I’m not quite sure what you mean by that, so I’ll ask you this...do you intend to kill me?" I responded as a bead of sweat trickled down the side of my face...
