Chapter 432: Chapter 432 - Concerned
"Huh...doesn’t seem like there’s much for us to do here," I remarked in bemusement as we walked out of the castle, dozens upon dozens of Lesser Vampire corpses scattered about the area.
"Yeah, looks like the battle is finally over now," Nodded Satan, before stretching his arms up with a sigh of relief.
"Aw, man, I wanted to fight a bit more...Caera managing to escape us left a bad taste in my mouth, I was hoping to blow off some steam," Said Izzy with a disappointed look on her face.
"I mean, I kinda get it, but honestly, I’m way too relieved that it’s over to really care about that, especially the fact that we all made it out alive," Smiled Prysm in response.
"Yeah, but still...," Grumbled Izzy.
"I’ll spar with you sometime later," Offered Lucifer with a wry smile, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"I shall join too, it’ll be nice to have a carefree sparring session without any real stakes to concern ourselves over," Chimed in Pavorphobus.
"Thanks, you two, I suppose that does sound like fun," Replied Izzy with a smile.
"I’m just glad it’s over, and that we survived, of course. I’m gonna do a whole lot of nothing for the next several days-...no, weeks," Declared Lumena wearily.
"I’d say you’ve more than earned it, this would’ve been a hell of a lot more difficult if it wasn’t for you. Actually, we probably would’ve lost, I seriously doubt we’d have been able to defeat Dracula if he’d been three times stronger," I replied as I patted her head.
"Indeed, your Magic Item was the cornerstone of our victory," Added Satan with a nod of agreement.
"That’s for sure, at least a few of us would’ve died if they were still able to use their moonlight barrier," Stated Tania in response.
"Yeah, I’d probably be dead," Remarked Prysm sheepishly.
"I know I certainly would have been killed, I very nearly was, several times, even without it. Had Dracula been able to unleash his full power, well...I’m glad it didn’t come to that," Said Aereeze warily.
"I’m glad I could contribute, it feels good to know that all my efforts paid off," Responded Lumena, looking a bit bashful at all the praise directed at her.
"Well, now that the Vampire threat has all but been dealt with, there’s another matter we need to attend to...what do we do about all the people of the Light Continent that were imprisoned in the Vampires’ livestock farms?" I frowned uncertainly.
I put off thinking about that since I didn’t want to get too far ahead of myself, but now that the main threat is out of the picture, I have no idea what to do about this.
Unlike the people of the Dark Continent, the Light Continent’s residents’ prejudices are based on religion. Logical reasoning isn’t going to work on fanatics, after all.
Even though we saved them from a life of being treated as cattle, I seriously doubt that’ll be enough to convince them to stop antagonizing us.
"If you’re thinking about trying to forge an allience with them, don’t bother. The humans of this continent are quite deranged, and that’s putting it lightly," Remarked Terrastra with a grimace.
"Yeah, what she said...I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the vast majority of them won’t even consider changing their ways. I say we slaughter them all," Suggested Lumena with a dark look in her eyes.
"Uh, no, that’s way too extreme," I shook my head with a wry smile.
"Hm...maybe we should just leave them be. I mean, if talking it out is pointless, and we can’t just massacre the whole lot of them, we should just leave. They’re not really a threat to us at this point, any of them who were competent in battle have likely either been killed or were turned into Vampires. And even if that wasn’t the case, I doubt they were capable of putting together a force that could genuinely threaten us," Pointed out Argent after mulling it over.
"Yeah, I agree, we-...oh, wait. Before we leave, would it be possible to sweep through the nation and liberate their slaves? I’m sure there are Demi-Humans who have been enslaved in this continent, not to mention humans who don’t solely possess the Light Attribute," Remarked Tania, as she met my gaze.
"Good point, I didn’t even consider that. We should’ve thought to question the Elder Vampires about any Demi-Human slaves before killing them...the human slaves are probably in the livestock farms, but since Vampires only feed on human blood, there’s a possibility that they killed off any Demi-Humans they came across," I mused with a grimace, before adding, "Still, though, it’s certainly worth a try, I see absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t."
"In that case, we should gather up all our forces and get them up to speed," Responded Satan, as the sounds of battle echoing out in the distance began to subside.
"Yeah, let’s spread out and help them wipe out any remaining Lesser Vampires. It seems this battle is pretty much over at this point," Added Lucifer with a nod.
"Sounds good, let’s do that. Alright, guys, time to wrap this up!" I declared, before we all spread out and made our way through the battlefield.
While I am relieved that this whole thing is finally over, I can’t help but feel concerned about that ominous wave of energy we felt earlier...seriously, what the actual hell was that?
