Chapter 97: World Tree & Moon Goddess

"So it is that time of the year once again..." the elf muttered softly while looking toward the gathered children.

Then he smiled lightly.

"Come on, let’s head inside."

He gestured toward the massive tree as David Nun led the students forward, accompanied by one particularly noisy fairy.

Soon, the group entered through a natural opening within the tree trunk.

The moment they stepped inside, many students widened their eyes.

The interior was far more spacious than expected.

The walls themselves were formed from ancient wood, covered with beautifully carved murals depicting forests, spirits, animals, rivers, and countless scenes related to nature.

At the center of the chamber stood a small statue.

A statue of a woman draped in leaves and vines while gently holding a tiny sapling within her hands.

"As all of you can see, this is the Goddess of Nature, Eryndor." David Nun began.

The students immediately observed the statue curiously.

"Nature, as the name itself implies, represents life, growth, balance, forests, spirits, beasts, and countless natural phenomena."

Then she suddenly looked toward the students.

"However, there is another place where many of you may have already heard this name before. Can anyone answer?"

A student immediately raised a hand excitedly.

"It’s the name of the tenth month! Eryndor!"

"Correct," David Nun nodded approvingly.

Meanwhile, Caelum silently narrowed his eyes.

’...Isn’t that also the name of the World Tree?’

He clearly remembered reading something related to that within the restricted sections of his family’s library before his Uncle Roger eventually banned him from entering freely.

’So this is information normal people aren’t supposed to connect together...?’

Caelum’s lips curled slightly into a smug smile.

In ordinary books, the World Tree was usually referred to simply as: The World Tree.

No true name was mentioned.

Yet at the same time, entire months were named after major divine entities such as, Soltharion, the Sun God, Eryndor, the Goddess of Nature, and even the Moon Goddess they had yet to visit during the tour.

’Something really big is happening in the background of my world...’

Caelum silently thought while observing the elf interacting with the children nearby.

The elf himself was extremely friendly.

Much friendlier than Caelum initially expected.

After spending some more time within the nature domain, the group eventually departed from the massive tree.

Unfortunately, Mia continuously followed them while talking nonstop the entire time.

Once the students finally left, Mia immediately floated beside the elf with a far more serious expression than before.

"...Did you feel it too?" she asked quietly.

The elf’s smile faded slightly.

"Yes." His expression became thoughtful.

"It was extremely repulsive, even my divinity reacted strangely."

He slowly narrowed his eyes afterward.

"I have never experienced something like that before."

The image of the blue-haired boy surfaced within his mind once more.

For some reason, his instincts felt an unusual level of rejection toward Caelum.

Not hatred or fear.

But something deeply incompatible.

Mia crossed her tiny arms seriously.

"Even the spirits were avoiding him," she muttered.

The fairy herself did not fully understand why.

But instinctively she felt that the future surrounding that child would become extremely troublesome.

She looked back toward the elf again.

"So what are you planning to do now?"

The elf immediately snorted.

"Are you stupid? What exactly am I supposed to do?" He shrugged helplessly.

"I’m just a normal elf."

Despite saying that, he calmly sat down afterward before beginning to write a letter.

At the very least, he wanted information regarding Caelum.

And if possible, he also wanted to discover why such a strange phenomenon had occurred around that child.

After some time, the group arrived at the Temple of the Moon Goddess, another extremely famous location within the Holy Grounds.

One of the primary reasons for its popularity was a well-known legend shared across the world.

The Sun God and the Moon Goddess were believed to be husband and wife.

Compared to the Church of the Sun, this temple carried a much calmer and more serene atmosphere.

Soft silver lights illuminated the surroundings gently, while several worshippers silently prayed inside.

At the center of the temple stood a breathtaking statue.

A beautiful woman seated upon a half crescent moon while gazing toward the sky.

The goddess within the statue wore a blindfold over her eyes.

Even Caelum had to admit that the craftsmanship was extraordinary.

"This is the Moon Goddess Lunareth." David Nun announced while gesturing toward the statue.

"As many of you already know, the ninth month was named after her."

Then she smiled mysteriously.

"She is also regarded as the companion of the Sun God and there are countless legends regarding their love story..."

David Nun suddenly began enthusiastically discussing romantic mythology despite being a nun from a completely different religion.

Smack!

An elderly woman suddenly appeared beside David Nun and hit her directly on the head.

"This old hag!" David Nun muttered while glaring at the newcomer.

The elderly woman merely sighed tiredly.

"Why are you late again? The other groups already visited earlier."

Then she narrowed her eyes slightly.

"And why are you twisting the original story?"

The old woman then turned toward the children calmly.

"Do not mind David and allow me to tell you the proper version instead."

The moment she said the word David.

"COUGH—!"

Caelum nearly spat out the water he had been drinking from the bottle he has in his school badge.

Only two people noticed his strange reaction.

David Nun herself and David (Paul).

"I-I have a question," Caelum quickly interrupted while pretending nothing happened.

The old woman narrowed her eyes slightly.

For some reason, she felt this child was special (troublesome).

"What is it?" she asked calmly.

Caelum pointed toward the statue.

"Why is the moon shaped like only half a crescent?"

The elderly woman looked toward the statue for a moment before answering.

"It is said that the moon was originally incomplete. Only half of it existed in the beginning, so, the Moon Goddess sacrificed part of her own divine body to complete the other half."

Her voice softened.

"She became the moon to properly illuminate Lyron so that Lyron would never remain in darkness."

Lyron was the name of their world.
