Chapter 1305: The Oath of Security
Holydes Island Chain
Divider Ocean
April 29th
Year 1056
Commonly acknowledged as the private territory of the ’Dragon Lord’ Altrishia, one of Aidos’ Transcendents, the Holydes Islands were the inhabited islands of the Divider Ocean with the lowest population.
Aside from the few Legendary and occasional Sovereign Level Dragons responsible for maintaining the islands’ facilities, there was barely anyone present.
Today, however, the population of the islands had risen into the hundreds, and it was NOT for a good reason.
Demonic humans, elves, and beastkin clashed against dozens of dragons, the skies above the Holydes Islands filled with explosions of magic power and law energy as flames, lightning, ice, and torrents of wind ripped through the air.
Multiple islands in the chain had already ruptured from the scale of the conflict, massive cracks spreading across the land while chunks of earth broke apart and collapsed into the ocean below.
Towering waves rose and crashed violently against the islands with every roar released by the Water Dragons, entire walls of seawater sweeping across the ground as storms churned overhead.
The Demonic Hand operatives continued charging toward the centre of the central island in the chain despite the fierce resistance of the dragons, their target being the giant dome-shaped mausoleum located there.
Just as it looked like they were about to get close, the clouds above darkened, and a loud voice filled with rage echoed across the land.
[YOU BASTARDS DARE!?]
From above the clouds, a pillar of black energy descended at supersonic speed, engulfing and vaporising the winged demonic beastkin flying to engage airborne dragons as it crashed toward the highest concentration of Demonic Hand forces.
But just before the energy pillar hit the ground, a triple-layered barrier of black-gold law energy expanded across the land.
The descending beam slammed into the first layer and shattered it instantly, the second lasting only a few moments as it bought time for the third layer to be reinforced enough to withstand the beam.
The third layer immediately cracked across its entire surface, spiderweb fractures spreading through the black-gold law energy as it trembled under the pressure. For a moment, it looked like it would shatter completely, barely holding its structure as the beam continued to press down with overwhelming force.
In the end, it endured just long enough to withstand the full impact before finally crumbling apart and dissipating into scattered fragments of fading energy.
The skies parted immediately after as a black flash of light shot down towards the ground, however, another black-gold barrier of law energy appeared just in time to block the black light, the impact unleashing shockwaves that expanded in all directions, spreading for kilometres and knocking back even the water dragons on the ocean around the island.
Cracks spread out from the centre of the barrier as the claws of the large 80-metre-long pitch-black scaled dragon pierced into its centre, pressing against it while the one who generated the barrier poured all their strength into resisting it.
Eventually, they managed to force the dragon back a few metres, but the dragon didn’t lose balance, only flipping through the air and spreading her massive wings as she glared down at the one behind the law energy barrier with dark eyes.
[You...who are you?] she demanded.
The man hovering in the air before her wore a suit, his tie missing and buttons undone, and a mask covered his face, distorting any attempt to read his features.
He had no intention of answering, but the Demonic Hand Senior Members on the ground whom he had just saved from being killed by the black dragon shouted out in alarm.
"My Lord?!"
"Lord First!"
[!]
Altrishia’s eyes widened the moment she heard their words, the identity of the man becoming clear without him needing to speak.
[First Finger...!]
Immediately, the man raised his hand and activated his Shockwave skill, a pulse of magic power erupting and blasting away the other Sovereign Dragons rushing toward Altrishia’s position.
However, she was completely unaffected, not because she defended against it, but because she wasn’t included as a target in the first place.
’That mask. I can’t see through it even with my Pseudo-Authorities. His presence feels unfamiliar, and I can’t recognise his magic power signa—no, this isn’t magic power.’
[Celestial energy?] Altrishia muttered, slightly shocked by her discovery.
’He isn’t even a Demonic Celestial. He doesn’t even have the Demonic Factor. I can only sense magic and celestial energy from him!’
To think that the First Finger of the Demonic Hand, the leader of the organisation of beings bearing Demonic Factors, didn’t possess demonic powers!
’He also smells slightly human...’
[A Halfling between Human and Celestial...]
The moment Ferrid heard Altrishia’s mutter, the man exhaled behind his mask and shook his head.
"This is why I hate showing myself," he said.
He raised his hand and condensed celestial and fate law energy around his arm, black-gold light swirling into existence. Seeing this, Altrishia halted her analysis for now and chose combat instead.
[Pseudo-Authority of Fire + Darkness.]
She opened her maw and, without hesitation, unleashed a powerful breath of black flames that rolled out with the force of an erupting volcano, a raging inferno that consumed everything ahead without discrimination.
The dragoness didn’t hesitate to get serious, intending to take Ferrid down in a single blast, but despite the overwhelming power of her attack, Ferrid was calm.
’Conditions met.’
His lips parted lightly as he spoke under his breath, the sound of his voice drowned beneath the roar of the blazing flames rushing toward him.
"Oath of Aidosian Security, Temporary Release Clause: Self-Defence."
Powerful law energy erupted from within his soul at those words, coursing through his body and empowering the wave of energy that expanded from his outstretched arm, forming a barrier that blocked Altrishia’s attack.
’Pseudo-Authority of Fate: Empyrean Fate Armament.’
Armour of black-gold energy formed around his arms, legs and torso, and he threw his other fist forward, unleashing a burst of power from his left fist that met Altrishia’s attack head-on.
The moment both forces collided, a massive explosion of energy erupted across the skies above the island, light and heat tearing outward in violent waves. The land below fractured in spreading lines, stone splitting apart as molten cracks glowed beneath the surface, while entire stretches of terrain began to melt under the overwhelming heat pouring down from above.
Senior Members of the Demonic Hand and the surrounding dragons scattered in different directions, scrambling to avoid being caught within the collapsing zone of destruction, some taking to the air while others retreated across broken ground as the shockwaves rolled through the island chain.
The two attacks held against each other for a moment before cancelling each other out in a violent burst, leaving the air trembling with residual law energy.
Ferrid vanished with a small flash of light, reappearing above Altrishia and throwing his fist down, but Altrishia instantly switched to her half-dragon form, causing the blow to miss the massive target he had been aiming for.
She immediately closed the distance and grabbed his extended fist, throwing him over her shoulder toward a spike of darkness erupting from the ground in front of her.
However, Ferrid’s fate armour blocked the spike, cracking and shattering on impact, and he used a shockwave to propel his body in the opposite direction, flipping through the air before locking his gaze on Altrishia below.
Her body was now covered in black scales almost entirely, her nails sharpened into claws as sharp as the horns on her head, and the spike at the end of the tail extending from her lower back.
Altrishia’s eyes narrowed, her slit pupils glowing faintly as she spoke.
"You’re a Transcendent."
The dragoness was flummoxed. Why were there suddenly so many Transcendent-level existences on Aidos that she wasn’t aware of?
’First, that Hero called Evan, and now this one.’
While her thoughts churned, Ferrid calmly reforged his fate armour before replying.
"Only under certain circumstances."
’When attacked by an existence above Level 900, I can temporarily release my Oath to defend myself. This should be enough to hold her long enough for Rosaline to get here.’
The man flexed his fingers, looking down at the mausoleum that was his target, which was completely unscathed due to the dozens of barrier spells Altrishia had cast over it.
Just as he did, space warped, and Altrishia appeared beside him with furious eyes. Her fist shot toward the side of his face, but the man, without even looking at her, activated skills.
’Multi-Divergent Ward. Multi-Shockwave.’
The dragon’s fist collided with the multi-layered shields that appeared beside him, shattering all three layers in an instant. However, she was immediately met with a barrage of powerful shockwaves that sent her flying through the air before crashing to the ground with immense force.
