Chapter 9: Aurora Ashbourne

At the same time, in the awakening venue, Rodrek was observing the remaining students, taking note of potential candidates for his guild.

’There are a few with A-rank mana pools... but none are as remarkable as those two. The guild master said she will be here soon. I hope she doesn’t come after the other guild masters. It will be hard if that happens.’

He had notified the guild master, forcing her to leave every work and come here as soon as possible.

If it was anyone else, then she might have sent another S-ranker, but it was Rodrek. His case is a bit special.

Rodrek is a capable fighter, but that isn’t his specialty. His path is a bit more unique than normal.

Suddenly, a voice sounded in his ear, and yet there was no one around him. Rodrek did not move. He knew who this person was.

"Greetings, Guild Master. I don’t think you will kill me for something so simple." He responded without turning around.

To be honest, she would have done it, if only he knew where she was. Her mastery over her mana was so good that he couldn’t sense anything at all.

"You think?"

All of a sudden, the voice grew cold. In an instant, Rodrek was drenched in sweat. The amount of mana in those two words was terrifying, but besides him, no one else could sense that.

He was wondering if his response had angered her, but in the next moment,

"Well, let me see what our seeker has found. It won’t hurt to look for them myself. Man up, Rodrek. I am kidding."

She flipped completely. One moment she felt terrifying, and another? She was chill.

’Are you, though? I would have believed you if I hadn’t seen what you are capable of, Guild Master.’

"They are at the rooftop."

"Rooftop? What are they doing there?" she asked, standing beside Rodrek.

He turned to his right to get a clear look at her. A woman who could stand out even among a crowd, however, she wasn’t just a woman.

Aurora Ashbourne, the leader of the Black Horizon Guild, as well as the strongest human in the world. She was a woman in her late twenties, but somehow still carried her youthful appearance.

She had a very fit build like that of an athlete, very likely for someone who spent years of her life inside the tower and rifts fighting against monsters, and yet was slender and graceful, with an hourglass shaped body, not losing her feminine form.

Her complexion was fair, with long, dark hair fluttering slightly in the wind. In every way, she looked immaculate. She seized the condition of the awakening venue with her dark pupils. For a brief moment, some strange emotions flickered in her eyes.

’So many bright stars, but most of them will never shine.’

"Are they really as remarkable as you say?"

"Without a doubt. Eleanor will be a prodigy for sure, even greater than the newbies who are at the guild, and Ethan... that boy is... weird. I do not know why, but I feel I won’t win against him." Rodrek reported solemnly.

"Why else? You are weak, that’s why, haha." She laughed like usual, always taking light of the situation.

"That might be true, sigh..." He exhaled, not arguing with her anymore.

"You are boring. Well, see ya, I will go check on them."

With that, she disappeared from there, instantly reaching the rooftop. While hovering in the air, she watched the two people who were in each other’s arms.

A boy, almost 175 cm, with dark hair and a slim build, more leaning towards the weak side, and a girl, slender and alluring with a distinct aura around her.

The moment she arrived there, she did not reveal her presence to them, just observing them, but it did not go her way.

Eleanor wasn’t skilled yet, but Ethan was able to sense her well. The moment he did, he turned his head, his purple eyes landing on her, locked with hers for a while. Even when he did, her eyes still remained calm.

’She is here.’

He separated from Eleanor and said, "You are here so soon, Guild Master. The other guilds are still behind."

Eleanor looked around, trying to figure out who he was talking to, as she saw no one, but unexpectedly, a voice came from behind her.

"He did not mention this..."

She came right before him, matching his gaze, which was fixated on her.

"You really are looking at me. There is no need to think anymore. Join my guild, both of you."

She wasn’t sure of it before, but now, he had indeed exceeded her expectations. Even a Level 28 Seeker, who sees things more than normal, wasn’t able to see her, and somehow this one did.

Her eyes were gleaming with expectations.

Ethan stared at this woman whom he had never met personally. She was such a great figure that he never even saw her, much less talked to her in person, and by the time he had some strength, she was long gone.

’So this is Aurora before the war... she is strong, too strong in fact, how did someone like her die so easily?’

"You two were about to do something improper, right? Don’t worry, you can do it even after joining the guild. There is no restriction for things like this, though you have to do it in a closed room, not like this open space."
