Chapter 12: Time for decision
The moment he said the place he wanted to go, all of them looked at him with disbelief.
He seemed like a madman right now.
The Abyss of Origin was a well-known place throughout the world. Even a 2-year-old kid knew that.
When the tower descended upon this world, rifts began to form in different places.
Since then, rifts have been forming around the world without stop.
However, most of those rifts have included the monsters of low level, mostly those that are found on the lower floors of the tower.
Rarely, a few rifts form where the monsters are of a high level, comparable to floors 30and above. None of those rifts stayed for a long time. Every monster inside was dealt with with the help of the hunters.
But...
Those rifts are considered normal. Above those, there are 5 rifts around this world.
5 rifts of death. They were opened alongside the tower, almost 200 years ago.
However, to date, they haven’t been closed yet.
The monsters keep on pouring out from them endlessly even now.
The regions where they were opened became so hard to protect that no human lives there anymore.
It was a deep shame upon humans that they had to abandon their houses and go to another place.
But that did not stop there. The number of monsters that poured out from that was so great that 5 continents where they were opened had been completely abandoned.
In the current situation, humans only reside in 1 continent alone.
This is the region where the tower appeared.
To claim their land again, there have been numerous attempts, but everything failed.
Those 5 regions remain as 5 forbidden zones of this planet.
One of those forbidden zones is the Abyss of Origin.
That was the place where Ethan’s sword was found before his regression.
"What? You do have a death wish, huh?" Even Aurora couldn’t help but say this.
Those forbidden zones were only accessible with permission from the government or one of the 6 guilds.
Only S-rank hunters are allowed in those areas; besides them, no one has been given the authority to go there, no matter who they are.
If you do not have the ultimate skill to protect yourself, then you cannot go there.
Though even with ultimate skill, you are not guaranteed to be safe.
More than the tower, those forbidden zones have killed more S-rank hunters.
Even Aurora has struggled to go deeper into those zones alone.
Ethan looked at Aurora once, but did not say anything; instead, he looked at Eleanor, who was behind Aurora.
He knew she would be the most affected by his decision on this, and she indeed was. But he cannot remain the same loser as before.
’Even I am not sure if I will be able to get that sword when I only have normal human strength. I might die there, that’s also a possibility, however...’
"I do not need your reasoning on this; I am well aware of the dangers that lurk there. Even so, it is my decision. There is no point in discussing anything further. Any of you who will allow me to go there can stay here. I will give you some time to think it through. Do remember, though, government will try to get Eleanor as well."
He didn’t look back after that and went away from the rooftop with Eleanor.
After he left, Alaric was the first one to speak.
"This was a waste of time. We were listening to him just cause we were informed that guy Rodrek was interested in both of them."
He wasn’t even trying to hide his disdain at the moment.
"Then why are you here? You can leave." Aurora waved her hand, signalling him to get lost.
"You were ready to accept any request he had, weren’t you? So why didn’t you?" He asked again.
"Isn’t it obvious? No matter what we feel, we all have the same end goal. Isn’t that why we became hunters in the first place? No civilians shall die under our watch. We may be rival guild leaders, but we all are humans at the end."
"That is true, but why not just accept his request? Whether he lives or dies doesn’t have anything to do with us." Magnus added after Aurora.
"All you have are muscles on your body and nothing else. If he actually dies there, who do you think that girl will blame?" Lucian sneered and responded to Magnus.
"We all sensed the amount of mana Eleanor possessed. It is marvellous, ridiculous in fact. She has more mana than us. I couldn’t sense the end of it." Alaric spoke solemnly this time.
’It might even be on par with or higher than Aurora’s.’
"We will be sending him to his death if we agree to it. Why don’t we just make her decide by force?" Lucian suggested.
They have more than enough power to do so.
"Absolutely not." Aurora flatly denied that.
She then looked at Seraphina, who had been silent the entire time.
"I noticed you were staring at him the entire time. What was it, Seraphina? You seemed curious about him more than Eleanor."
Seraphina raised her radiant mint green eyes to look at them and asked a simple question,
"Did you not sense anything from him?"
