Chapter 341: Chapter 321: Report

Gavin Todd led Flora Bloom and her two companions for a few minutes before they arrived at a building complex. The Argent City Police Department, Argent Division?

’Good grief.’ The trio consisted of a university student, a military doctor—though he’d only recently joined—and another doctor. If it weren’t for the apocalypse, they probably would have never set foot inside a police station in their entire lives.

Seeing the conflicted expressions on their faces, Gavin Todd said with a sly grin, "Don’t let the fact that it’s a police station fool you. Other than Prison 45, this is the safest place in all of Argent."

The three of them didn’t make a fuss and quickly followed Gavin Todd into the police station, stopping in front of a room with a sign that read "Interrogation Room."

"This is it. You’ll be quarantined here. According to regulations, I have to lock the door. Someone will come to unlock it and let you out when the time is up."

The trio entered, and Gavin Todd locked the door from the outside. The flimsy door, even locked, couldn’t possibly withstand a single blow from a superpower user.

However, they had noticed on their way in that the station’s entire power grid was operational. If the door were destroyed by force, the alarm system for the whole building would likely go off.

There was no need to escape. After all, quarantine was an effective measure for maintaining the base’s security. Whether they were an ordinary person or a superpower user, anyone infected with the zombie virus was certain to show signs within twenty-four hours.

The moment the trio entered the interrogation room, Flora Bloom spread her spiritual power. Sure enough, she found three pinhole cameras near the ceiling and in other inconspicuous corners. ’She knew it.’ Since the power grid was restored, the quarantine room was bound to have surveillance. Not only that, but there was also an audio recording device hidden under the only chair in the room. You would never find it unless you looked closely.

The room contained only a single chair, the kind used for interrogating suspects before the apocalypse. None of them took it; instead, they all sat on the floor.

"That guy just now..." Cynthia Grant started to say something, but Flora Bloom silenced her with a look.

A fine mist rose and swirled toward the circuits of the three pinhole cameras and the audio device. A short circuit caused by humidity wouldn’t arouse suspicion, but it would stop anyone from spying on their every move.

"You can talk now."

"What was that about?"

"There are pinhole cameras here. Our every move was being monitored. It’s fine now, though. I used my superpower to short-circuit the electronics."

"Flora, do you have a plan for after we get out? If what that guy said earlier is true, then Lex..."

Flora Bloom and Lex Cross were bound by the Eternal Life Contract; she could clearly sense that he was fine.

"Do you remember that radio broadcast Sepherdine played for us?" Flora Bloom asked Cynthia Grant quietly.

Cynthia Grant nodded. "Oh, right! How could I forget about that? The radio app on his phone clearly said that the Argent base was requesting support. It was choppy and hard to make out, but it was definitely a distress signal. But Argent seems perfectly fine. Why would they need support?"

Flora Bloom frowned as well.

"Judging from Sepherdine’s behavior recently, I don’t think he would make something like that up. After all, he initially wanted to come to Argent to answer the call for aid himself," Neal Wallace suddenly chimed in.

Flora Bloom nodded. "I agree. But if it wasn’t him, then someone is using the airwaves to draw people from all over to Argent. But why? The Argent base seems to be developing quite well. With those high walls, they could hold out against a zombie horde for a long time."

"That’s right. The Argent base is impressive as it is. A massive influx of people could destabilize the current situation. I can’t imagine why anyone would do that." Neal Wallace agreed with her assessment. "Flora, do you have any theories?"

"Nothing for now. Once we’re out of quarantine tomorrow, we’ll go back with the Thorne family first. I think we should keep a low profile for a while to avoid drawing any unwanted attention. I just have this feeling that an unseen hand is orchestrating something from the shadows."

It was already afternoon when Flora Bloom and her group arrived in Argent. Inside the quarantine room, the three of them secretly ate some food and prepared to take turns sleeping. However, before dawn the next day, someone opened the door.

"Cynthia Grant, someone’s here for you."

It was Neal Wallace’s turn to keep watch, but Flora Bloom was sleeping lightly as well. Only Cynthia Grant was dead to the world, fast asleep on a mat Flora Bloom had laid out.

The guard who entered saw that all three were awake. "Which one of you is Cynthia Grant?"

Cynthia Grant stood up, rubbing her eyes. "I am," she said, still half-asleep. "Who’s looking for me?"

"Your family’s here for you. You can leave."

Cynthia Grant froze. "My family?" ’Could it be Grandpa?’

"Cynthia, come home with me." At the sound of the voice, Cynthia Grant’s expression turned cold. A man who bore a slight resemblance to her slowly walked in. Flora Bloom guessed he was most likely Cynthia’s father.

In the middle of the apocalypse, for a family to be able to pull someone out of quarantine before their time was up, they must hold considerable status within the base.

Cynthia Grant turned and moved behind Flora Bloom, grabbing her arm tightly. "I’m not going! Isn’t the quarantine period supposed to be twenty-four hours? What, some people get special treatment? If I happen to turn into a zombie, can you bear that responsibility?!"

The guard glanced awkwardly at the man who had entered. "Mr. Grant, as you can see..."

"Your grandfather sent me to get you."

Cynthia’s expression faltered and for a moment she seemed moved, but she didn’t budge.

Flora Bloom seemed to sense something. She turned to Cynthia. "Cynthia, since your family is here for you, you should go with them. We’ll sort everything out after we’re released."

Cynthia frowned and sighed. "But can’t you two come with me?"

"Pulling you out alone has already cost the Grant family. What more do you want? Let’s go!" The man, her father, gave Flora Bloom an unreadable look before withdrawing his gaze.

Cynthia was about to retort but saw Flora Bloom shake her head.

The door was locked once more, and a silence fell over the quarantine room.

Neal Wallace and Flora Bloom sat quietly on the mat, waiting for dawn.

No food was provided in the quarantine room. The quarantined had to go without food or water for twenty-four hours to be released. When someone finally came to open the door and they were about to be let out, Neal Wallace, who was walking ahead, was allowed through, but Flora Bloom was stopped.

"He can go. You can’t."

Neal Wallace stopped in his tracks and hurried back to Flora Bloom’s side. "Why? We came in together, so we leave together!"

"Someone reported that she’s pregnant and possibly carrying the zombie virus. She has to be moved to the maternity quarantine zone for further observation!"

"..." Flora Bloom was speechless. She quickly ran through the list of people who might have reported her since the Thorne family brought them to the base. Lin Tian and Gavin Todd were unlikely. Regan Thorne and his superpower users were desperate to get her to join the Thorne family, so it wasn’t them either. That left only one possibility: the middle-aged man who came for Cynthia in the middle of the night, her suspected father. There was no one else it could be.
