Chapter 339: Chapter 320: Lex Cross’s Disappearance (Part 2)
"Fine! I hope you keep your word!"
Regan Thorne turned and shot Flora Bloom and her companions a vicious look before leaving with his men and the unconscious little girl.
Liam and Gavin Todd both sighed in relief and turned to look at Flora Bloom and her companions.
When they were surrounded by the Thorne family’s group of people with superpowers, the two guards had only gotten a clear look at the three unfamiliar faces. Now, as the crowd dispersed, Flora Bloom’s five-month pregnant belly, concealed under a long sweatshirt, was revealed to the two men and the handful of onlookers still lingering nearby, standing out beside Cynthia Grant and Neal Wallace.
"This way, you three. It’s the rule of our base. Anyone coming from the outside, whether from a hunt or a supply run, must be quarantined for twenty-four hours."
Flora Bloom offered a faint smile. "Understood."
Liam appreciated Flora Bloom’s easy-going compliance. ’Good, I like people who know how to play along.’ Besides, the woman before him was beautiful and clean—very much to his liking. "I haven’t seen you around before. First time in Argent?"
Flora Bloom nodded. "We just got here."
"Why were Regan Thorne and his men after you?"
Flora Bloom’s expression remained neutral. "A small misunderstanding."

Liam frowned. It wasn’t her vague, unforthcoming answer that bothered him, but her casual attitude—the way she didn’t seem to take him seriously at all. It was starting to get on his nerves.
But he didn’t know that Flora Bloom had no mental energy to spare for his questions or his attitude. Her mind was stuck on something an elder from the Thorne family had said during the confrontation: "Without Lex Adler, what does the Adler family have to be so proud of?"
’Lex Adler... isn’t that Lex Cross?’
’What did he mean by that? What on earth happened to Lex Cross?’
"Do you have any idea what the consequences are for offending the Thorne family?"
Flora Bloom was lost in thought when Liam’s voice cut in. "If you three are new to Argent Base and don’t have any connections, you’ll find it very hard to survive."
Flora Bloom looked up at him. "Are you with the Adler family?"
Liam froze, his gaze turning sharp and meaningful as he studied the woman before him.
"I am. Why?"
"Do you know where Lex Adler went?"
Flora Bloom’s question made Liam’s brow furrow. ’Don’t tell me she’s another one of those fools, hopelessly infatuated with Lex Adler.’ But she didn’t seem the type. ’What kind of woman would be so obsessed with a man during the apocalypse, especially while pregnant?’
Flora Bloom regretted the question the moment it left her lips. ’That was too direct.’ In the eyes of others, it would seem more likely that she had ulterior motives.
Liam’s face suddenly hardened. "That’s not something a newcomer like you should be asking!" He waved to the man beside him. "Gavin Todd, take them to the quarantine room."

Gavin Todd approached the group with a friendly smile. "I’ll take you to the quarantine room. Don’t worry. As long as you don’t turn into zombies in the next twenty-four hours, you’ll be fine."
"Gavin Todd, be quick about it. A lot of hunters came back today, and they all need to be checked. Don’t slack off."
Liam shot Gavin Todd an irritated glare before turning and walking expressionlessly back to the main gate.
Gavin Todd shrugged and looked at Flora Bloom and her companions. "Come on. The quarantine room is a bit of a walk, I’ll take you."
As they walked, Gavin Todd chattered like a tireless sparrow. "You three were really lucky today. The Adlers and the Thornes have always been rivals. Liam—the guard I was with—he’s with the Adler family, so he makes a point of opposing the Thornes. If it had been any other family’s people on duty, you’d be in serious trouble. Now that you’ve pissed off the Thorne family, things definitely won’t be easy for you."
The three of them looked at Gavin Todd with curiosity, especially Flora Bloom. "So, we have Liam to thank for dodging that bullet today!"
"Don’t mind his stone-cold expression, he’s actually a really good guy!" Gavin Todd glanced around before giving Flora Bloom’s belly a conspiratorial look. "You probably don’t know this, but we had an incident with a pregnant woman here at the base before. A baby zombie burst right out of her stomach and started attacking people. It was a huge mess to finally clear out that threat. Now, all pregnant women have to be quarantined in a separate area, and they have to stay for an extra forty-eight hours compared to everyone else.
You look so thin and frail; I doubt you could handle three days in quarantine with no food, just water. I’ll arrange a private room for you three, so you can be quarantined alone. It’s the most I can do to help. When you get out, be extremely careful of the Thorne family."
Flora Bloom glanced sideways at Gavin Todd. "Thank you!"
"Don’t thank me. Liam was the one who secretly slipped me the key for the private room. I’m not the one calling the shots here."
