Chapter 107: Chapter 107: What If She Gets Scared Thinking About It
"Mom, what are you just standing there for? Hurry and let my brother and sister-in-law in!"
Lu Xinyue had been lost in her own romantic fantasies, so she was a few steps behind Lu Cheng and Shen Nian. When she finally caught up, she was surprised to find they were still standing at the doorway, so she hurried them along.
"Oh! Silly me. Come in, come in!"
Hearing Lu Xinyue’s voice, Sun Yufeng finally snapped out of it. She realized she’d just been standing at the door, staring at Shen Nian. Anyone who didn’t know better might have thought she wasn’t happy to welcome her son and daughter-in-law home!
Shen Nian and Lu Cheng had just stepped inside and sat down in the living room when Lu Xinyue scooted up next to them.
"Brother, Sister-in-law, I heard you met on her way to B City. But didn’t you take the train, Sister-in-law? How on earth did you manage to run into each other?"
When Shen Nian had called home after arriving, she’d only given a brief account. The main point of the call was just to let them know she’d arrived safely.
Now that the two of them were back, Lu Xinyue, being the most curious one in the room, naturally couldn’t hold back any longer.
Shen Nian knew that since she’d let it slip on the phone, she would have some explaining to do now that she was back. So, she gave them a general outline of what had happened on the train.
Of course, she downplayed the events, making them sound much less harrowing than they actually were. After all, Shen Nian didn’t want them to worry.
However, even though Shen Nian only glossed over the details, what Father Lu and Mrs. Lu heard was still enough to make their hearts race.
"That’s terrifying! How could something like that happen? Thank heavens you’re both all right!"
Sun Yufeng said this while pressing her palms together as if in prayer.
Lu Shaoping also looked shaken. If Shen Nian and Lu Cheng weren’t sitting there in front of them, safe and sound, they wouldn’t have been able to remain so calm.
Lu Xinyue, however, was far less worried than her parents. While the situation had indeed been dangerous, her attention was clearly focused on something else.
"Wow, you two are so meant to be! To run into each other even under those circumstances! Sister-in-law, tell me, when my brother appeared and saved you, were you super excited?"
Seeing the excited, gossipy look on Lu Xinyue’s face as she leaned in waiting for an answer, Shen Nian could only sigh in exasperation.
’I never would have guessed. Lu Xinyue actually has a natural talent for gossip!’
’Of course I was excited! So excited my heart nearly beat out of my chest! But how could I possibly say that in front of my father-in-law and mother-in-law!’
"Well, I was incredibly relieved that your brother was there. Otherwise, I really don’t know what I would have done!"
"It’s so romantic just thinking about it! A hero saving a damsel in distress at the crucial moment. Brother, you’re amazing! So cool!"
Lost in her fantasies and sighs of admiration, Lu Xinyue was the very picture of a lovestruck fangirl.
However...
"Hey, Brother! Why did you hit me!"
Lu Xinyue had been in the middle of her fantasy when Lu Cheng suddenly rapped her on the forehead. She complained, frowning and pouting as she rubbed the spot and looked at him.
"Stop scaring your sister-in-law."
"I am not!"
"Exactly, Xinyue. Your brother is right. That whole affair was so dangerous. It’s in the past now, so let’s leave it there. Don’t bring it up again. What if you make your sister-in-law frightened just by thinking about it!"
Sun Yufeng chimed in, adding that just hearing the story was frightening enough for her. Making Shen Nian recall it over and over again must feel awful!
