Chapter 118: Lies and Schemes (II)
"I..." Han Ziyan knew that she was in trouble. She had been cooped up in Han Ruochen’s room, pondering over this and that, and she had forgotten that she needed to do household chores completely!
Her eyes flickered, and she lied through her teeth, "Mom, Sister Ruochen’s room was really dirty. And I was cleaning it."
Han Ruochen, who came out of the room, heard Han Ziyan’s outrageous lie and paused. She raised her head and looked at Han Ziyan, who lowered her head right away. Han Ruochen scoffed as she walked over to the kitchen and poured herself a cup of water.
Meng Yunhan was tired to death after working for half a day. When she saw that her second daughter was looking so apathetic, it made her furious. "What kind of attitude is that?"
Despite being yelled at by Meng Yunhan, Han Ruochen didn’t lose her temper. She said nonchalantly, "Mom, I have been doing these kinds of chores every day. And I have been cleaning the entire house; she only cleaned a room, and you are feeling heartbroken? That’s not fair."
When Han Ruochen retorted to her, Meng Yunhan’s expression twisted. She yelled at Han Ruochen, "You really know how to talk. She is your younger sister, so what if you clean her room sometimes? But you, as her eldest sister, watched her clean your room; don’t you feel ashamed?"
"What’s with this noise now?" Han Yichen had just stepped into the house when he overheard his wife scolding Han Ruochen. Annoyed, he hurried in and saw his wife glaring at Han Ruochen.
"She doesn’t even understand how to be more understanding of her hard-working parents. She only knows how to enjoy going outside every day and nothing else. I say instead of raising a white-eyed wolf like her, it is better to marry her off." Meng Yunhan cried and lamented as she raised her finger and pointed at Han Ruochen as if she were about to accuse her of a grave sin. "Look at her, she didn’t even clean the house."
"Why didn’t you three clean the house?" asked Han Yichen with a frown.
"I was looking for a job."
"I was scavenging for seafood."
"I..."
Both Meng Yunhan and Han Ruochen had their reasons for not cleaning the house, but Han Ziyan had no reasons to provide. She simply repeated what she had told her to her mother, "I – I cleaned Sister Ruochen’s room..."
"You took more than half a day to clean her room?" Han Yichen frowned hard. "Besides, Ruochen’s room is always clean."
"Sister Ruochen woke up earlier, so she didn’t clean her room that well. Dad, I have never done such chores before; hence, I am slower than the rest. Dad, please don’t be angry. I will learn how to do better." Han Ziyan stammered, worried that Han Yichen would be angry.
Han Yichen wanted to be angry, but he didn’t want to quarrel the second he entered their house. He pursed his lips and sighed. "Alright, let’s clean the house. The house is not very dirty; we will be able to clean it in an hour."
"I will do the dishes then!" Han Ziyan volunteered for the easiest job. What a joke, the house was so big, and Han Jianyou had gone back to school. If she were to start cleaning the house, then her back would crack. Thus, she picked the easiest task that could be done within a few minutes.
The only reason she was able to escape a scolding was that she told her father that she had cleaned Han Ruochen’s room, but the truth was that Han Ruochen had cleaned her room, and the two of them were the only ones who knew the truth. Fortunately, Han Ruochen did not say anything, or else things would have become difficult. Turns out that Han Ruochen was still a pushover.
After Han Ruochen dealt with her a few times, Han Ziyan was worried that Han Ruochen would tell the truth to their parents, but it seemed like she overestimated Han Ruochen. She was still the same as before. Look at this, she was still the same as usual, a simple pushover.
This was good news to her.
Han Ruochen noticed the woman looking at her and laughed dryly when she saw the look of relief on Han Ziyan’s face. She just didn’t want to quarrel with Han Ziyan. And it wasn’t because she wanted to give in to Han Ziyan, no. The reason she didn’t want to bother with Han Ziyan was her father. It seemed like Han Ziyan really did not understand their parents at all.
Cleaning her room was a simple task; no matter how dirty it was, it could never have taken more than an hour. She could have fought for the credit, but that would have made her father upset. After all, he didn’t like it when his children fought over simple things. On the other hand, if she allowed Han Ziyan to take the credit for cleaning the room, then her parents could no longer ignore the one thing that they had always ignored all this time.
That they had raised a really lazy daughter.
Han Ziyan stayed at home for the entire day, but she could not even do more than just clean her room. That proved nothing other than her incompetence rather than her competence. Han Ziyan might think that by taking credit for cleaning the room, she escaped a scolding. What she didn’t know was that the reason their father asked her what she was doing the entire day was not because he wanted to know what Han Ziyan was doing, but because he was giving her a chance to explain her laziness.
Han Ruochen scoffed.
Han Ziyan was dreaming that she could make Han Ruochen come back down on important matters. Even if Han Ziyan managed to make her father side with her, there was no way Han Ruochen was going to give in to her!
