Chapter 117: Lies And Excuses
When Tong Zhaodi heard Han Ruochen’s response, she was quite disappointed. However,
"Well, we did find a lot of seafood for such a short duration."
Han Ruochen hummed in response. She had to admit that the haul was indeed good, but that was only when she was speaking about herself; as for Tong Zhaodi, she only got some snails and clams. From the looks of it, it seemed like she was going to get scolded again. However, this had nothing to do with Han Ruochen. If the Tong family were any good, she would have given Tong Zhaodi a share of her hunt, but that family—Han Ruochen shook her head.
It was better to throw an elephant trunk clam at a dog than let Tong Zhaodi take it back.
If she allowed Tong Zhaodi to take these good things back, there was a good chance that the Tong family would start targeting her in an attempt to leech off her. Han Ruochen didn’t want that to happen, so naturally, she would not do anything that would start causing trouble for her.
Han Ruochen went straight to her second uncle’s house, as she couldn’t even dream of bringing so many good things back home. She could only leave them in the care of her second uncle and tell him to bring these things to the Zhai family. She would have gone to the Zhai family herself, but Han Ruochen had to bring Han Beijiang from the school and didn’t have the time to make the trip to the county.
However, when she returned home, she realised that Han Ziyan had prepared a grand surprise for her. When she entered her room, she saw Han Ziyan sitting on her bed with a dazed expression. The room was a total mess, like someone had gone through her room.
When Han Ruochen saw this, she couldn’t help but coldly laugh; there was no need for her to confront Han Ziyan, she knew what the woman was trying to do when Han Ruochen was gone. Without bothering to quibble with Han Ziyan, she asked Han Beijiang to go and clean his room while she cleaned her own.
Han Ruochen was moving around the room, but Han Ziyan had yet to come back to her senses. It wasn’t until Han Ruochen had finished cleaning up her room and was stacking the last of her English books in the cabinet shelves that Han Ziyan snapped out of her daze. She yelped and scrambled back into the bed, but when she saw that it was none other than Han Ruochen, Han Ziyan snorted angrily. "Why didn’t you make a sound? And when did you return? Why didn’t you tell me? Don’t you know how frightening it is when someone just appears in front of someone without making a sound?"
Han Ruochen rolled her eyes. "First of all, this is my room. If someone is in the wrong room, then it is you. Why will I announce that I am entering my own freaking room? And I have been tidying my room for a while, but you didn’t snap out of your daze. Who is at fault here?"
When Han Ziyan heard that Han Ruochen had already cleaned her room, she wanted to call her out on her bullshit, but that was until she looked around the room and found it clean and tidy. Seeing this, Han Ziyan could only smile awkwardly. "Well, I just remembered that I forgot something in your room last night, but I couldn’t quite find it. I am sorry I made a mess of your room. I didn’t mean to, honestly."
"It’s okay, I have tidied the room. And I am quite disappointed to hear that you didn’t find it. I hope you will find what you are looking for at the right place and right time," said Han Ruochen pointedly. They both knew that Han Ziyan was looking for money, but since Han Ziyan had not said a thing, she was not stupid enough to accuse Han Ziyan, lest the woman start to cause trouble.
At that very moment, the front door was pushed open, and the sound of someone walking inside, followed by "Ziyan, I am back," echoed in the house.
Han Ziyan jumped from the bed and then rushed out of the room without waiting for Han Ruochen to say anything. She could sense from the pointed gaze of the woman that she knew the reason behind her presence in the room.
"Mom!" Han Ziyan’s eyes brightened when she saw her mother. She dashed out to welcome her mother, but the reason she was in such a hurry was not that she was missing her mother. No, the reason was simple. She wanted to ask her mother if she finally got a job or not. If she didn’t get a job, then she was worried that her life in the Han family would only become more difficult from here on out.
"Did you get the job?" In her hurry, she even forgot that she needed to bring a glass of water to her mother. She simply asked her mother the burning question that she had been waiting to ask since the morning.
"Found it." Meng Yunhan wiped the dirt off her body. She was really tired and wanted to sit down and relax a little.
Meng Yunhan had lived a life of comfort for years; asking her to go and find a job was really embarrassing. Thus, even when she went to look for a job, Meng Yunhan couldn’t bring herself to lower her head and ask for one. In the end, the job that she found was not an easy one.
After looking around for a job for more than half a day, she realised that earning money was not at all easy! Back then, she was quite fortunate that she ended up marrying someone as nice and easy as Han Yichen.
She looked around the house and frowned. "Ziyan, why didn’t you clean the house? Didn’t I ask you to finish the household chores?"
