Chapter 119: There Is A Worm
Han Ruochen sighed and told herself that this was the last time she was giving in to Han Ziyan.
She threw herself into cleaning the hall, while Han Beijiang, who had heard the quarrel, also came out to help. The two siblings were used to doing such things since they were young, and thus, they were able to clean more than three rooms on their own, unlike Han Ziyan. While she was still cleaning the dishes, Han Ruochen and the rest had cleaned almost the entire house.
"Forget it, there is no need to wash the dishes anymore." Meng Yunhan was both speechless and exasperated. She looked at her daughter, who had cleaned the dishes, and sighed heavily. The dishes still had oil stains; it seemed like she had to wash the dishes again. "Ziyan, come and cut the vegetables. I will do the dishes."
Looking at the vegetables, Han Ziyan showed an unwilling look. She didn’t want to cut the vegetables, but given that she was not doing a good job while cleaning the dishes, she could only accept the task. She took the knife and brought it down heavily on the eggplant, but then her hand touched something wriggly and hairy. At first, she thought it was nothing but the stem of the eggplant, but then she saw that it was nothing like that!
It was actually a worm!
She flung the thing off her hand and shrieked, "Mom, Mom, there is a worm! There is a worm!"
At the Han house, Han Ziyan had never seen a single bug, much less a worm this big. If someday she found a cockroach in the house, she would make a fuss until someone took care of it, and never once had she taken care of something like this before, but who would have thought that the second she touched a vegetable, she would end up getting a worm this big? Han Ziyan was bound to throw a tantrum.
"Is it not normal for vegetables to have worms?" Meng Yunhan was having a headache. Although she was out for only a few hours, she was not used to leaving the house. Thus, she was really tired. She had not even gotten a chance to take a little nap, and Ziyan was not being useful at all. Why was she kicking up a fuss over worms? Those things were tiny, and one would not even notice them unless one was paying extreme attention to them.
"What happened now?" Han Yichen walked into the kitchen and looked at the mess in front of him, and could not help but frown. He had worked all morning, and instead of getting a warm meal at home, he was working hard to clean the entire house. It was really tiresome, and to make things even more chaotic, Han Ziyan was screaming as if she were being tormented. "Why are you screaming about worms?"
When no one spoke, he looked around the kitchen and found the crux of the problem.
He sighed and walked over. "It’s only a worm; it can do no harm to you. If you are scared, just throw it down the pipe, and it will be all over. Why are you screaming like this?" He deftly threw away the worm and turned to look at Meng Yunhan. "Do not act so flustered over something so simple. You are a big lady now; as a woman, you will get married, and one day you will have to take on new tasks of cooking and cleaning. What will you do then? Scream every time you cook? Old Meng, you told me that Ziyan had cooked lunches for me several times. How can she cook lunches for me if a little worm scares her this much?"
In the past, Meng Yunhan would often sing praises of Han Ziyan in front of him. She often used to say that Han Ziyan was a very filial child, and he did not understand her. It was Han Ziyan who was taking care of his meals, but after seeing how scared Han Ziyan was because of something so simple, he couldn’t help but feel doubtful. Was this girl really skilled in cooking?
Han Yichen was a traditional man, and even if he loved his daughters, he hoped that they knew all the household chores so that no one would be able to say that they had taught nothing to their daughters. But looking at Han Ziyan, it seemed like the girl had never cooked in her life.
"I ..I know how to cook; it’s just that I am a bit scared of worms, so Sister Ruochen always cuts the vegetables for me." Han Ziyan hurriedly threw the pot of blame off her head. She knew that if she dared to say that she didn’t know how to cook, her father would force her to learn how to cook until she excelled in it. But Han Ziyan didn’t want to be like Han Ruochen, who worked all day long like a servant.
"Hurry up, Ziyan. Even Beijiang is done with his chores and is doing the homework that he got from his special school. You should also tidy up and go to sleep. Don’t sleep with your sister; she still has to wake up early to go and catch the tide."
It wasn’t that he was looking down on Han Ziyan, but the lack of money at home had made him nervous as well.
At least if Han Ruochen continued looking for seafood, in case something happened like an illness struck them, they would have enough savings to manage the trouble. Han Ziyan was the only one who was doing nothing at home; she could afford to waste time, as she had no job, but Han Ruochen could not!
This was what Han Ruochen told him.
Han Ziyan, who was chopping the eggplant, nearly slashed the chopping board in half.
It must be Han Ruochen who complained!
If not, with how concerned her father was about the harmony of the family, he would never tell her off!
