Chapter 146: This... Is A Massacre! [FIXED!]
Jason descended from the sky and crashed into the center of the open plain several kilometers from the damaged town. The impact shattered the earth beneath him as a perfect ring of dust erupted outward, racing across the battlefield before gradually settling. Standing before him was the full might of the Tartaros, an army assembled with enough strength to conquer entire kingdoms.
More than a hundred elite dark mages stood in disciplined ranks, each formation positioned with military precision. The weakest battle mages occupied the front, clutching enchanted staves while suppressing their nervous anticipation. Behind them stood veteran spell-knights clad in reinforced black plate, and at the rear waited the true elites, their ornate voidsteel armor glowing with runes. Towering siege constructs thrummed with compressed mana while black banners bearing the Eclipse’s insignia fluttered beneath the blood-red sky.
Jason stood alone, facing them without the slightest hint of hesitation. There were no soldiers behind him, no hidden reinforcements waiting to appear, and no allies standing shoulder to shoulder with him. It was one man against an army, yet he looked at them as though they were little more than an inconvenience.
His eyes calmly swept across every formation, studying their positioning and command hierarchy. The weakest had been deliberately placed at the front to exhaust him before he reached the commanders protecting the rear. They expected him to carve a path through their numbers one battle at a time, but Jason had no intention of fighting by their rules.
Without saying a word, he began walking toward the rear of the army.
The commanders immediately sensed something was wrong. They had expected him to charge, hesitate, or unleash a devastating attack from the start. Instead, he simply ignored the soldiers directly in front of him as though they didn’t exist.
"Kill him!" One of the battlefield commanders roared, thrusting his enchanted sword toward Jason.
"Don’t let him reach the rear!"
The order shattered the tense silence. Hundreds of spells erupted simultaneously as flaming lances, shadow bolts, corrosive clouds, gravity spheres, cursed chains, and crackling lightning converged upon Jason from every direction. The sky disappeared beneath a sea of destructive magic powerful enough to level an entire fortress.
Jason never slowed his pace. Every spell dissolved the instant it reached the invisible pressure surrounding his body, becoming nothing more than harmless sparks, fading smoke, or scattered motes of mana. He neither raised a hand nor acknowledged the attacks, leaving many of the mages staring in stunned disbelief.
"W-Why isn’t anything working?!" one terrified mage shouted, his confidence evaporating as another spell disintegrated before touching Jason.
"Keep firing!" another officer barked desperately, refusing to believe what he was seeing.
"He has to run out of mana eventually!"
The barrage intensified until the battlefield became a storm of magical destruction. Even the veteran spellcasters joined in, weaving forbidden incantations designed to strip away barriers and consume souls. Yet every attack met the same fate, dissolving without leaving so much as a scratch on Jason’s clothes.
Unable to accept reality, one arrogant mage activated a teleportation spell. Spatial mana distorted around him before he appeared directly in Jason’s path, his crystal-tipped staff already glowing with forbidden energy.
"Die, Marrow-breaker!" the mage screamed triumphantly as he unleashed a point-blank Soul Rip.
Jason didn’t even look at him.
The spell never completed.
Instead, the mage suddenly froze as both hands flew toward his throat. His triumphant expression twisted into horror while invisible force compelled him to claw at his own neck.
"W-What’s happening?!" the mage gurgled, desperately trying to pull his hands away.
"Stop... stop!"
His fingers dug deeper despite his struggles. Flesh split open beneath his nails as blood poured across his robes. Moments later, he ripped completely through his own windpipe before collapsing onto his knees, choking violently until his body finally slumped lifelessly onto the dirt.
Jason looked down at the corpse with a grimace.
"Goddamn... what the fuck?" Jason muttered, clearly disturbed by the grotesque sight despite having done nothing himself. "That’s a terrible way to die."
He stepped over the body and continued walking.
Fear spread rapidly through the front ranks. Some instinctively retreated while others tightened their grips on their weapons, unable to decide whether to attack or flee. Even the veteran commanders exchanged uneasy glances, realizing that everything they knew about Jason had been a gross understatement.
Far behind the formation, one of the massive siege cannons slowly rotated. The enormous barrel glowed with blinding violet light as compressed mana condensed into a projectile larger than a carriage.
Jason noticed its trajectory immediately.
It wasn’t aimed at him, it was aimed toward the damaged town.
Someone intended to attack the town that Jason was supposedly risking himself to save them.
Jason sighed as though mildly inconvenienced by their decision.
"Wait... don’t tell me you actually thought I’d throw my life away to save people I don’t even know," Jason said with an indifferent shrug.
"Go ahead. Fire."
The cannon discharged with an earth-shaking explosion. The mana shell tore through the sky like a blazing comet, leaving behind a trail of crackling energy.
Several commanders smiled.
Their satisfaction lasted less than a second.
A colossal shadow descended from above before smashing directly into the projectile.
BOOM!
The Ant King crushed the mana shell between its upper arms, forcing the explosion to detonate harmlessly high above the battlefield. Burning fragments rained across the plain while the gigantic creature landed heavily behind Jason, its tremendous weight shaking the earth.
Kaelen, who had been riding awkwardly on the Ant King’s shoulder, stumbled forward the instant his feet touched solid ground.
He barely managed two steps before collapsing onto his hands and knees.
"Ugh..." Kaelen groaned before vomiting onto the grass. "Flying with this thing is somehow worse than dying."
Jason glanced over his shoulder without stopping.
"Took you long enough," Jason replied casually.
Kaelen wiped his mouth before finally looking toward Jason. The battlefield around him was already covered with corpses, yet Jason remained perfectly calm in the middle of it all.
"...Little meat," Kaelen whispered, shaking his head in disbelief. "You’re not so little anymore."
The Tartaros’ commanders quickly reacted to the newcomers.
"Target the new arrivals!" another commander shouted while pointing toward Kaelen and the Ant King.
"Bring them down before they interfere!"
Dozens of spell formations immediately shifted direction.
Jason finally came to a stop.
He slowly raised his right hand toward the sky, and every surviving mage instinctively felt a chill run through their body. Mana throughout the battlefield began trembling as though reality itself feared what was about to happen.
Jason lowered his hand in one clean chopping motion.
The world became impossibly heavy.
An invisible force crashed across the battlefield with overwhelming violence, driving more than a hundred dark mages face-first into the ground simultaneously. The earth fractured beneath their bodies as armor buckled inward and bones groaned beneath unbearable pressure.
Screams erupted everywhere.
Most of the army couldn’t even lift a finger. They lay completely pinned beneath Jason’s power, unable to breathe properly or gather enough mana to cast even the simplest spell.
Only eleven figures remained standing.
Even they were visibly struggling.
Layers of shimmering barriers surrounded the surviving leaders as veins bulged across their foreheads. Every ounce of mana they possessed was devoted solely to resisting the crushing force threatening to flatten them.
Jason clicked his tongue after glancing at the survivors.
"Goddamn... I’ve gotten rusty," Jason muttered with obvious disappointment. "I should’ve crushed all of you."
He resumed walking.
With every step he took, another rank of pinned soldiers exploded beneath the overwhelming pressure. Bodies burst apart in succession as blood stained the broken earth, yet Jason never broke stride or altered his expression.
Crunch after crunch echoed across the battlefield.
Kaelen watched the horrifying spectacle unfold with widening eyes. Jason wasn’t fighting an army anymore; he was simply walking through it while death followed behind every footstep.
"...This can’t be real," Kaelen whispered, unable to believe what he was witnessing.
The Ant King remained perfectly still beside him. Its six arms hung loosely at its sides while its golden eyes followed Jason’s every movement, displaying neither excitement nor concern.
"Jason... the anomaly," one of the eleven remaining leaders called out, amplifying his voice with magic.
"We have come to reclaim what was stolen from us!"
Jason finally stopped walking.
"The Marrow?" Jason asked with a faint smile. "It’s mine."
He slowly extended both hands.
Two glowing orbs materialized above his palms. One radiated scorching ember light while the other swirled with endless darkness, and both expanded rapidly until they towered above the battlefield.
The Ember Lord emerged first.
Its colossal body blazed with molten fire while burning chains wrapped around its limbs like living serpents. Beside it appeared the Shade Lord, a shifting nightmare composed entirely of living darkness whose countless tendrils writhed without end.
Silence consumed the battlefield.
"I didn’t just conquer the Marrow," Jason declared, his voice carrying effortlessly across the plain. "I conquered the lords who ruled it."
His gaze swept across the remaining commanders.
"I’m everything the rumors claimed," Jason continued before smiling slightly. "...and worse."
Kaelen instinctively stepped backward.
"W-What have you become... little meat?" Kaelen asked, unable to hide the fear in his voice.
