Chapter 145: Jason’s Power! [FIXED!]
Jason hovered above the burning ruins, power radiating from him in relentless waves. The remaining dark mages scrambled below, hurling desperate spells toward the sky, but every attack dissolved before it could reach him. Fire, curses, and condensed mana shattered against the invisible pressure surrounding his body, unable to even graze him. Reinforcements were already approaching, and Jason could feel their signatures growing clearer with every passing second. This battle was only the beginning, and if they wanted to send an army after him, then he would make sure that army understood exactly what awaited them.
He reached inward, drawing upon the one of the ability the Marrow had awakened during his introduction to the new worlds.
Realm Echo.
Taking a slow breath, Jason extended his will across the battlefield.
Reality rippled.
The world twisted as echoes of long-destroyed realms bled into the present. Endless plains of cracked white bone stretched across shattered streets before fading beneath crimson skies that pulsed like living hearts. Beyond them churned vast voids that swallowed light itself, replacing it with fractured stars and impossible horizons.
The ruined village no longer belonged to a single world.
It existed in several at once or at least, this specific area only.
Every dark mage froze.
Their mana slowed to a crawl as the overlapping realms rejected foreign energy, draining their reserves while forcing their bodies to phase uncontrollably between solid flesh and translucent silhouettes.
One mage watched in horror as his arm dissolved into black mist before painfully reforming.
"W-what is this?!" the horrified mage screamed, stumbling backward as his own body betrayed him.
Another collapsed when one of his legs vanished completely, only to return moments later twisted in an impossible direction. Several attempted to teleport away, but every spell failed, depositing them only a few feet away as the fractured realities imprisoned them inside shifting dimensional layers.
Jason’s voice echoed through every overlapping realm.
"You wanted chaos," Jason said coldly, his crimson eyes sweeping across the battlefield. "Here it is."
His fingers slowly curled into a fist.
The echoes intensified.
An invisible pressure crashed down across the battlefield.
Ten mages vanished instantly.
Not a single scream escaped them.
Their bodies fragmented into drifting particles before being swallowed by the surrounding realms, their very existence unraveled and absorbed into the dimensional fractures sustaining Realm Echo.
The survivors collapsed where they stood.
Some clawed desperately at their own skin while conflicting realities fought over possession of their bodies.
Others convulsed violently as muscles repeatedly tore apart and regenerated under incompatible laws of existence. Every attempt to gather mana only accelerated the process, causing their own power to revolt against them.
None could even stand.
A low, amused chuckle drifted through the battlefield.
Jason turned without haste.
Perched atop a half-collapsed rooftop sat a heavily scarred woman.
Her pale gray skin contrasted sharply against dozens of piercings fashioned from polished black bone. Rings lined her ears, lips, eyebrows, and even the bridge of her nose. Leather straps wrapped around her body, secured by iron buckles and decorated with jagged spikes, giving her the appearance of a goth demon that had somehow taken mortal form.
She studied him with open admiration.
A sickening grin spread across her face.
"You’re strong," the pierced woman muttered, her husky voice carrying unmistakable approval.
Jason met her gaze for several silent seconds.
Unlike everyone else, she wasn’t struggling against Realm Echo.
She wasn’t resisting it either.
She simply watched.
"You’re the one directing this," Jason stated calmly, already recognizing her as the mastermind behind the attack.
Without warning, the woman stepped off the rooftop.
She landed gracefully among the rubble before immediately lowering herself onto one knee, bowing her head in complete submission. Jason also noted that these creature was responsible for this onslaught.
"I did not come here to fight, Jason," the pierced woman said respectfully. "I know you’re strong. You’re exactly what we need."
She lowered herself even further until both knees rested against the shattered stone.
"My name is Namtar. Please, my lord, kill all these people and remind them of what you truly are," she pleaded with almost reverent devotion.
Jason blinked once.
"...Say what now?" Jason asked flatly, genuinely caught off guard for the first time since arriving.
The woman slowly raised her head.
Her eyes shone with unmistakable fanaticism.
"I did not refer to the people around you," the pierced woman clarified, her smile widening.
Jason frowned but he confirmed what he suspected, this creature had somehow manipulated or rather, used her members as sacrifices to lure him out so she could talk to him.
His senses expanded far beyond the town.
Across forests and hills, they collided with more than a hundred powerful mana signatures advancing in disciplined formation.
No illusions.
No disguises.
No hidden barriers.
Heavy infantry marched alongside towering constructs forged from enchanted black steel. Organized spellcasters maintained layered formations while mounted warriors raced ahead as scouts.
The ground trembled beneath their synchronized advance.
Then everything clicked.
Jason’s gaze drifted toward the countless corpses scattered throughout the village.
The burned homes.
The dead parents.
The butchered children.
Every victim.
Every body.
"They weren’t villagers," Jason realized quietly as the truth settled into place.
Recognition flashed across the woman’s face.
"Correct," the pierced woman answered with obvious satisfaction.
Jason looked again.
The corpses still wore human appearances, but now subtle inconsistencies revealed themselves. Beneath torn flesh, patches of gray skin occasionally surfaced before fading again. Death had erased their mana signatures completely, concealing what they truly were.
"They were shapeshifters," Jason concluded.
"They volunteered," the pierced woman replied proudly without the slightest hesitation.
Jason’s expression hardened.
"These casualties were your own people," he stated flatly.
"A necessary offering," the pierced woman answered without remorse. "Every one of them accepted their role willingly. They understood the honor of serving our purpose."
Jason remained silent.
The woman slowly rose from her kneeling position, though she continued keeping her head respectfully lowered.
"This siege was never about slaughtering innocent villagers," she explained. "Its only purpose was to draw you here."
"Drawing me out," Jason finished for her.
"Exactly," the pierced woman replied, her smile becoming almost childlike. "And proving your worth."
Jason glanced toward the surviving mages still trapped inside Realm Echo. Several had already become lifeless husks after their souls failed to withstand the overlapping dimensions.
"You sacrificed your own people just to test me?" Jason asked, his voice colder than before.
"Yes," the pierced woman answered instantly. "And you exceeded every expectation."
She stepped forward carefully.
"The council fears you. The guilds dream of controlling you. Entire kingdoms debate whether to recruit you or destroy you," she declared before placing a hand over her chest. "But I serve something greater."
Her voice trembled with genuine excitement.
"Join us, my lord," she pleaded. "Lead us."
Jason’s face remained emotionless.
"You used dead children as bait," he said, each word carrying quiet disgust.
"They were loyal," the pierced woman replied without flinching.
"You murdered them," Jason countered immediately.
"I gave them purpose," she answered with absolute conviction.
"They trusted you," Jason continued, refusing to look away.
"They offered themselves willingly," the pierced woman insisted.
"They had families," Jason replied.
"They understood the price," she finished calmly.
There was no insanity in her eyes.
Only unwavering faith.
To her, the sacrifice had been meaningful.
Necessary, even sacred.
"The real army comes now," the pierced woman continued eagerly. "Those were merely my faithfuls. The warriors approaching are the true threat. They will not fall so easily."
The rumbling across the plains intensified.
The first ranks crested the distant hills.
Towering soldiers in black armor marched in perfect formation beside colossal constructs that shook the earth with every step. Floating siege platforms drifted overhead behind shimmering barriers while elite spellcasters advanced beneath overlapping defensive enchantments, their combined mana darkening the very sky.
At the center of the army rode a massive warrior clad in obsidian armor.
He raised a colossal axe toward Jason.
"Capture the Marrow-breaker!" the army commander roared, his voice booming across the valley.
Thousands of weapons rose in unison.
"Claim his power for the Tartaros!" the army shouted back, their unified battle cry shaking the battlefield.
Jason stood motionless amid the ashes of the false victims.
Behind him, Realm Echo continued consuming the last surviving mages without mercy before ultimately coming to an end.
Before him waited an army.
The pierced woman watched with eager anticipation, desperate to witness whether the monster she had sought truly deserved her devotion.
Jason looked once toward the approaching force before releasing a slow breath.
"Fine," Jason said quietly as his aura expanded once again, causing every fractured realm to tremble. A faint smile appeared on his face as he finished, "Let’s send a message they won’t forget."
