Chapter 118: Light vs Yannick pt. 1(Final Battle)

The time had finally arrived, the final battle of the tournament.

The whole arena was awash with noise erupting from all sides, people cheering Light and people cheering Yannick.

It would either be the underdog story of the year, or the most predictable battle ever. Whatever the outcome was, the people were sure that they were about to witness a very entertaining battle here.

One between two brothers, whom as a result of the tournament, had shown that they were the strongest amongst the next generation of Wutherhorns.

The future of the dynasty was in good hands, or so they thought.

The announcements were about to begin, the announcer walked onto the podium for what seemed like the hundredth time that day, he held the microphone to his face and began to announce the final fight.

It was a battle scheduled to be even longer than the rest, while the other fights had ran for twenty five minutes, this one would run for thirty. That meant that the two finalists had thirty minutes to display whatever skills they had been saving up until this point.

Both Yannick and Light, with all the strength they had, must have had a trick or two still up their sleeve... or not. It would be revealed during the battle.

The announcer slowly did a drum roll and announced the names of the finalist, the crowd roared as each of them were called out. Yannick didn’t care much for the crowd, as always, he only focused squarely on his opponent, he was always like that.

Light, however, came out in his usual fashion, he waved to the people who were important and was all smiles, all smiles to hide his obvious nervousness. He stood there, stuck in his head about how the battle was going to go.

Yannick was a very difficult person to read, even Heimdall himself who was a mind reading master had confessed that he sometimes found the boy very difficult to read.

Yannick had mastered the art of concealing his intent, in moments when his intent was concealed, if his mind was read, it would come up blank. At least that’s what Heimdall said.

Light could hear his own breaths as the blade hummed faintly in his grip, the black and white leather handle had become especially worn after the fight with Jonathan that even he wasn’t sure if he would be able to rely on the sword anymore. Nevertheless he trusted it enough to carry him through this final battle.

Yannick paced himself, he would do whatever he could to avoid this fight turning into the spectacle that was witnessed just before theirs. That would begin with not taunting Light, he needed this battle to end as soon as possible. He was very confident that he had gotten a good reading of Light’s abilities during the last few battles.

As long as he didn’t let the young man exploit the blind spots, then he would win no matter what direction the battle went in.

He would do this by suffocating the red haired young man with attacks, something he was very proficient at, same thing he had done to Vale. It seemed easy enough in his head with this strategy, the only thing left was to implement it perfectly.

There were two ways to win Yannick, at least Light thought, one of which was exploiting the blind spots, something that Light knew Yannick had already prepared for, but he would use it regardless because that was his greatest strength.

The only thing Light wouldn’t want was to allow Yannick dictate the tempo of the battle, if Light allowed that, then he would definitely burn out.

"FIGHT!" A whistle blew and the fight begun.

Unlike the battle between Light and Jonathan where they had immediately lunged at each other from the beginning, this one had started slowly, both men just staring at each other very vigilantly, as though if they looked away for even a second, they would lose.

Yannick vanished first, and within a second he had sent his daggers hurling towards Light with full force.

"Fast!" Light exclaimed as he blocked with his worn out sword, he knew there would be zero time for slacking in this battle, as Yannick was determined to end this as quickly as possible.

Just as he blocked the first attack, he failed to account for Yannick’s loose limbs, more especially, his legs. Yannick did a quick backflip in he air, and halfway through it, he kicked against Light’s chest. The kick sent the young man cascading across the battle ground as it packed a lot of punch, coupled with the wind power that Yannick had added to the kick which pushed Light even further.

His body rolled across the ground frantically before he planted his blade in a crack in the ground, stopping himself abruptly.

’Tch!" Light hissed as he stood up slowly, wiping dust from his face.

’He’s too fast.’ Light mused, he stared at Yannick again, who had a listless expression written all over his face. He seemed very indifferent to this particular situation.

Light let go of his flurry of thoughts as quickly as he could and he dashed towards Yannick again.

He swung one fist from the right, Yannick easily blocked with his fore arm.

Light swung a rebound from the left, Yannick blocked with his right forearm, the barrage of punches continued from Light but Yannick blocked and dodged so easily.

At one point Yannick followed up with a counter punch, one that sent a large gust of wind flying into the walls of the arena, that attack shook the entire arena.

The attacks kept coming from both sides, both contestants dancing through the air so quickly, some members of the crowd couldn’t even follow the battle.

Light couldn’t find any blind spots because Yannick didn’t allow him any breathing space, one wrong step, one misplaced attack, and he was suddenly on the defensive again.

Yannick spun around and struck at Light with a dagger on his right hand, but halfway through the strike he stopped, Just as Light had already put his blade up to parry the attack, Yannick sent his free hand flying into Light’s face with maximum force.

Blood splashed from the young man’s nose as he was sent flying away again, for the second time.

The crowd gasped as they watch Yannick land a clean hit on the young man. Anissa clutched at her chest, tears beginning to well up in her large eyes.

She knew that Yannick was strong, and that Light’s chance of beating him was slim, but she wanted to believe in him. At the moment she was scared of losing him for a second time, if that happened she didn’t know how she would live with herself.

Light struggled to his feet again, realizing that Yannick was showing him levels, levels that he was yet to reach, Yannick would attack, land a clean hit, and then wait for the boy to regroup himself.

He was suffocating him, but not in a way that he was rushing, he was showing him that he was on a different level of composure and strength.

’How do I beat him?’ Light thought to himself as he wiped blood off his nose.

His nose was bleeding profusely as he had one knee on the ground. He could see zero openings from Yannick, even as they both stood apart from each other. He could think about at least twenty moves to pull off, but he could also see the outcome of those attacks.

That’s what it meant when Yannick concealed his intent, he would have his weapons by his side, looking completely vulnerable throughout the process but you could almost tell that every attack would get dodged, blocked, or parried.

What’s more was that the man had said nothing to Light the entire fight, Light wondered why that was, before they came to the battleground, Yannick was all smiles, infact, he was the best brother.

But now he was cold, the amount of aura that emanated from him made him look exactly like a monster,

Jacob just watched on with his hand on his jaw. He saw that Light was clearly outmatched, but what was to come would be particularly interesting, because only one of them had a point to prove, and it wasn’t Yannick.

He looked forward to the rest of the battle.

Even Xenia knew that this wasn’t the end as she watched Light struggle to stay on his feet, the young man looked like he was on his last strand, but somehow it still seemed as though this wasnt the last he had to display, he still had other things to show the entire crowd.

The Primarch was more than satisfied with what he witnessed, this battle clearly showed him that Light’s other victories were nothing more than flukes, and the bastard would soon be exposed.

Light stood on the opposite side of Yannick, who watched him with calm, cold eyes.

This battle was far from over.
