Chapter 116: Are They Always Like This?
Jonathan’s fingers twitched as he lay passed out on the concrete, his body covered in scars and dark crimson.
"S-Since J-Jonathan Wutherhorn is unable to continue—The winner... Light Wutherhorn!" The announcer himself sounded surprised at the outcome of the match, hence, his stuttering. "He will now go on to the finals, where he would face Yannick Wutherhorn."
The announcer jumped into a long dialogue of how the final match promised to be a historic one, but Light wasn’t even listening. Light had transformed back in to his original form, he stood over Jonathan’s body. He hated that he had lost control over himself and had done this to his own brother.
He looked up at the panel, where his father and mother sat. His father mirrored his gaze with a cold stare.
"This is what you want, isn’t it..." Light muttered under his breath, gritting his teeth as he stared directly into the eyes of the expressionless man. "You won’t be happy until we kill each other."
Amidst the cheers and the story the announcer was telling, Light felt an empty silence, welling up inside of him. He couldn’t even hear any of it, all he could feel was emptiness, a slow realization that what he was having to do, just to prove himself to someone that didn’t even care, was savagery.
He made a quiet promise to himself, he looked at Anissa, who had her hands over her mouth.
Yes, she wanted him to win, but she had never known the side of him who was willing to fly off the handle in such fashion.
He hung his head and walked back into the tunnel.
The first gaze he caught was that of Zion, who frowned and pushed against his chest. "What was that? That’s your brother! How can you do that?!" Zion questioned him aggressively, but Light just hung his head.

"I-I don’t... I don’t know what came over me. I’m sorry." He muttered, the rest of his brothers just looked at him.
They knew it was normal to get angry sometimes, especially if he was being taunted, and they knew Jonathan could be pretty annoying sometime. He didn’t know it, but they weren’t judging him.
"I just thought you’d use a little restraint Light. Luckily, he didn’t die, but I wish you didn’t beat him like that in front of his family." Yannick said, his face expressionless.
"I thought the same, I’m sorry."
"Hey! Hopefully one day we can sit around a table and laugh about this, eh!" Randolph spoke out, he was like that, always hopeful.
The chat continued amongst them for a while, with Light apologizing more times than he could count, but he knew it wasn’t enough as no apology had been tendered to Jonathan or his family, he would do so later.
The final battle was to begin in an hour to give the contestants enough time to rest and get themselves ready for it.
Light sat on the small bed provided for the fighters to tend to their wounds as he played the battle over and over in his head.
He reminisced about feeling like his body was taken over by darkness, filling him up with rage, he didn’t even know he could get that angry,
Visions of Jonathan’s body slamming against the concrete floor played repeatedly in his subconscious.
At some point he held his head in his hands. He didn’t cry, he never did, but he did curse under his breath repeatedly.
"What did I say about losing control of your emotions?" A familiar voice inquired as the door opened and shut pretty quickly.
Light looked up to find three people looking at him. One was a man with short white hair, the other was a woman with long red hair, and the third person he knew all too well, Anissa.
"Oh! Light!" Anissa exclaimed as she ran over to his bedside, wrapping her arms around him, he could swear there were tears in her eyes.
Jacob and Xenia just stood and watched as the strange girl fawned over this young man. In the passageway, she had introduced her self as Light’s friend, but now Jacob thought there could be even more to their relationship than what she let on.
"Jacob, I don’t know. It just felt like some sort of overwhelming darkness took over me." Light confessed, his head hung low as Anissa’s hand wrapped around it. "I don’t know how to explain it, he taunted me during the battle, and in that moment, it felt as though all my past trauma just came rushing in."
"I thought you were going to kill him. Don’t care me like that." Anissa pulled away for a brief moment and said to his face before wrapping her hands around him again.

"It’s called PTSD Light, it got amplified by your powers and sent you spiraling, good thing you didn’t kill him like Anissa said." Jacob responded, Anissa agreed with a slight nod of her head.
"Now I feel a way about going to fight Yannick." Light said, placing his thumbs on his chin slowly. "I don’t know if I can even win that."
"There’s that self doubt again, remember why you’re doing this in the first place. And if your father doesn’t acknowledge you after all you’ve done so far, then fuck him. Respectfully, of course." Jacob joked and smiled, his words bringing a smile to Light’s face.
"You’re right Jacob, I was just thinking, I can’t let that geezer dictate how I live my life."
"Ohhh. Would you look at that Xenia, Light was thinking..." Jacob joked again, laughing lightly this time, even his laugh sounded like royalty, just like his grandfather Alaric.
Light’s expression suddenly changed. "You know, I can suddenly feel the darkness rising again, I wouldn’t want to have to send another person to the sick bay."
"You can try." Jacob grimaced.
After a moment they both burst into laughter, the noise filling the room.
Anissa looked at Xenia with a confused expression on her face. "Are they always like this?" She mumbled audibly enough for Xenia to understand what she was saying.
The woman just smiled and nodded her head.
