Chapter 485: Chapter 485: I’m Sorry

When Ashley Shaw returned to the dorm, she immediately opened the big bag out of curiosity.

Inside, she found some carving knives and paper-cutting tools, along with a small knife and a desk mat.

"What’s this?" Jocelyn Hayes curiously leaned over, and upon seeing the items, asked puzzledly, "Weren’t you going to learn from your mentor? Why did you buy these things for fun?"

Ashley Shaw had already understood Jasper Quill’s intention.

She said, "When we become doctors, we will eventually have to go into surgery, and practicing this will make our hands steadier."

Jocelyn Hayes finally understood, then said, "I should buy some too, to practice my hands."

Ashley Shaw looked at her, "Are you really planning to study hard now?"

"Yeah! The oath-taking ceremony was so inspiring, it really motivated me."

Ashley Shaw smiled with satisfaction and asked Lynn Redding, who was still playing games, if she wanted to join Jocelyn Hayes in buying some.

Lynn Redding waved her hand dismissively, "Nah, I’m not interested in becoming a doctor. Once I graduate, I’m changing to another industry."

Ashley Shaw knew a bit about her family situation and knew she was forced to choose her major, so she didn’t say much more, but went online with Jocelyn Hayes to buy more carving knives and paper cuts.

Jasper Quill wanted her to practice, and she couldn’t just practice what Jasper had given her; she had to work even harder on that basis.

After Jocelyn Hayes bought the paper cuts online, she remembered her brother had given her a task—to give a medal to Ashley Shaw.

Yesterday, Ashley Shaw had fainted from heatstroke and was carried back by Ariana Grant, so this had slipped her mind.

Now remembering, she immediately and mystically took Ashley Shaw to the place in the dormitory building where they could blow dry their hair.

Hair dryers couldn’t be used in the dormitory, so the school had set up a place on each floor where hair dryers could be plugged in.

At this time, no one was washing their hair, so it was just the two of them.

Ashley Shaw, seeing her sneaky look, smiled and said, "What’s up? Did Lynn find out you stole her noodle fork to eat snail noodles?"

"What are you talking about! I replaced her noodle box with a new one long ago."

Ashley Shaw was puzzled, "Then why did you sneakily bring me here?"

Jocelyn Hayes struggled for a long time, not knowing how to start, so she spread her right hand and said, "Look! For you!"

Ashley Shaw noticed it was a delicate medal made of brass, gleaming with little characters engraved on it.

She accepted it with curiosity, and upon seeing the police academy’s emblem, she understood most of it.

"This was from your brother, wasn’t it?"

Jocelyn Hayes had been observing Ashley Shaw’s expression, but she appeared very calm, aside from the initial surprise, with no other expressions.

Helpless, she decided to be straightforward, "Yes, my brother asked me to give it to you. During the military training, he didn’t come to find us because of this."

However, the next second, Ashley Shaw handed the medal back to her.

"Ashley, this is...?"

Ashley Shaw held back Jocelyn Hayes’s hand, saying, "Robin, I understand your intention, and I’ve guessed your brother’s intentions... but I’m sorry, I just don’t have this on my mind right now."

Jocelyn Hayes felt a bit disappointed but forced a smile.

"It’s okay! You might not be thinking about it now, but who knows about the future? Both my brother and I can wait for you, till you finish learning what you want and become a real doctor! My brother too, he can use this time to study properly, and after graduation, pass the police exam to get a formal position."

Ashley Shaw opened her mouth, not wanting to disappoint Jocelyn Hayes but still said, "It’s not because I want to focus on studying..."

In college, studying and dating can coexist.

But ever since knowing her daughter might still be alive, she just couldn’t develop feelings for any other man.

Of course, this has nothing to do with Warren Prescott, only with her child.

Jocelyn Hayes asked, "If it’s not because of studying, then what is it? Is it because... of your high school classmate?"

The high school classmate naturally referred to Warren Prescott.

Upon hearing Jocelyn Hayes mention Warren Prescott, Ashley Shaw felt an inexplicable guilt.

Probably because her "rebirth" secret was recently exposed by Warren Prescott, and she still had lingering fears.

She didn’t want this secret to be known by more people.

However, this moment of guilt led Jocelyn Hayes to misunderstand that she was right.

She sighed, "I told Ariana long ago that you might get chased by your high school classmate. Ariana said it was impossible..."

Ashley Shaw imperceptibly smiled, instinctively wanting to explain but thought further, this misunderstanding might be a good thing.

She didn’t want Jensen Hayes to become the next Cillian Xavier.

Instead of leaving people with unclear hope, better to crush it from the start.

So she didn’t deny Jocelyn Hayes’s misunderstanding and followed her words, "I’m sorry."

Jocelyn Hayes exclaimed, "Sorry for what! Love matters take turns. Who made you first meet Warren Prescott? If you’d met my brother first, maybe you two would have been together... So this isn’t anyone’s fault, just blame it on fate."

Ashley Shaw’s thoughts drifted away.

If in her previous life she had met Jensen Hayes and fallen for him, maybe she wouldn’t have faced all these later issues.

But there aren’t so many "ifs" in life.

She was already luckier than millions, not many people in history get a chance to redo their life.

Jocelyn Hayes had figured things out. From initial disappointment, she had rejuvenated.

"You can’t be my sister-in-law, but you are still my friend! So I haven’t lost anything. If there is any loss, it’s my brother’s, hahaha..."

Then seeing Ashley Shaw still looked guilty, Jocelyn Hayes added, "Or maybe it’s not even my brother’s loss. He’s a person with the mind only for being a policeman, he might soon forget about you."

Ashley Shaw nodded, "Your brother will surely be a good policeman in the future."

And just like that, the matter drifted past.

In no time, another two weeks passed, reaching the National Day vacation.

Jocelyn Hayes had to go home, bidding them goodbye reluctantly.

Picking her up was Jensen Hayes. When they met, Ashley Shaw felt a bit awkward, but seeing Jensen’s natural demeanor, just like before, made her feel a bit better.

Only when Jocelyn Hayes turned back upstairs to fetch a bag, Jensen Hayes spoke to her, "Don’t worry about what Robin said."

Ashley Shaw knew he was referring to the medal, feeling rather apologetic, "I’m sorry..."

Jensen Hayes shook his head, "I’m the one who should be sorry, I troubled you. But... we’ll remain friends, right?"

Ashley Shaw nodded, "Of course."

As soon as she spoke, she caught sight of a black business car driving in their direction.
