Chapter 876: Chapter 876: Nothing But a Dream

And that slight, imperceptible pain.

Selena Kensington suddenly felt her eyes warm slightly.

Cole Vaughn lowered his eyes and saw Selena Kensington’s slightly red eyes.

He spoke lightly, "You’re crying."

The words were flat, in a statement-like tone.

When Selena heard this, she looked up at Cole Vaughn.

Seeing Cole Vaughn’s calm demeanor, as if nothing could cause his emotional upheaval, Selena sighed.

Her lips curled into a mocking smile, "This feeling, you wouldn’t understand."

Cole Vaughn’s heart lacked love, so naturally, he wouldn’t understand the feeling of a reunion spanning decades.

Cole Vaughn’s expression remained unchanged, but he seemed to stubbornly confront Selena. After she finished speaking, he immediately responded.

"Why should I understand."

Selena Kensington "..."

Selena glared at Cole Vaughn, "Shut up!"

"...lunatic." Seeing Cole Vaughn about to speak again, Selena muttered.

She then lowered her eyes slightly, gazing at the hand Cole Vaughn had just moved.

That hand still had some bloodstains on it.

Selena glanced at it, then retracted her gaze and looked at Cole Vaughn, "You should clean your hand."

Surprised at her words, Cole Vaughn lowered his head to look at his still bloodstained hand, then chuckled softly.

When he looked up again, Selena Kensington had already turned and left.

Cole Vaughn stood behind her, not intending to chase after Selena.

He wasn’t upset by her reprimand.

There was still a hint of amusement in his eyes.

After Selena’s figure disappeared ahead, he glanced at the situation in the living room and then walked straight out of the Rivers Family’s mansion.

*

As Selena Kensington sensed Esther Jennings reappearing in her mind, Vincent Sinclair just stepped out of the living room.

He seemed the same as before, yet somehow changed.

Selena discreetly observed Vincent Sinclair for a while before averting her gaze.

Then, Vincent Sinclair also went out.

During Vincent Sinclair’s absence, Selena Kensington toured the Rivers Family mansion under Grandma Jennings’s guidance.

Later, she checked on her cousin-in-law’s health condition.

She emulated Grandma Jennings’s methods, using her Heavenly Master Power to nourish her cousin-in-law’s internal organs.

When Vincent Sinclair and Cole Vaughn returned, Selena noticed a change in the aura around them.

Vincent stood talking to Grandma Jennings, while Cole Vaughn stood behind him, looking calm.

Selena sat not far away with her cousin-in-law.

Vincent Sinclair and Grandma Jennings, perhaps discussing something, exchanged glances towards her.

"..."

If her guess was correct, they were probably talking about her.

Her cousin-in-law smiled lightly beside Selena, "Why not go over and find out?"

At her cousin-in-law’s suggestion, Selena snapped back to reality and turned to look at her.

Seeing her gentle expression, with a soft smile in her eyes directed at her, Selena paused.

After a moment, she slowly smiled, "Yes, maybe I should go see for myself."

She said this, then stood up and walked over.

As she approached, Vincent Sinclair and Grandma Jennings’s gazes slightly intensified.

"Grandma." Selena stood beside Grandma Jennings and called softly.

Grandma Jennings looked at her kindly, then turned to Vincent Sinclair, her expression slightly stern.

Grandma Jennings spoke seriously, "Uncle, no matter your intentions, or what ludicrous things you’ve done in the past, I won’t hold it against you; but let me be clear, I won’t let Selie go with you, nor will I let you use her for anything."

Vincent Sinclair looked thoughtfully at Grandma Jennings, then turned his gaze to Selena Kensington.

For some unknown reason, Selena sensed Vincent Sinclair’s gaze softened considerably.

But he only glanced at her before looking away.

Vincent Sinclair spoke warmly, "Selene, rest assured. Before resolving those people, I will not harm her."

On hearing this, Grandma Jennings’s tone grew sharper, "You’re not to do anything in the future either! Uncle, don’t you see! Aunt can’t come back anymore! Let go of the past and your obsessions..."

Vincent Sinclair, his eyes cooled, paused at Grandma Jennings’s words.

But seemingly held back by some thought or concern, he refrained from speaking his intended words.

"You needn’t worry about this matter." Vincent Sinclair, reluctant to continue the discussion with Grandma Jennings, soon changed the subject, "During this period, I’ll deal with those people, ensuring they don’t disturb you."

Grandma Jennings’s eyes showed a mixture of gloominess and helplessness.

Because she knew, only her aunt’s words could move the stubborn man in front of her.

But her aunt was now just a mere spiritual body, her memories, emotions, all long gone. How could they return to the past? Perhaps, all he was doing was... chasing a lost dream.

The conversation between Vincent Sinclair and Grandma Jennings naturally ended on a sour note.

Seemingly unwilling to linger, Vincent Sinclair and Cole Vaughn sought to leave under the moonlight.

Grandma Jennings, feeling tired, waved them off, turning and heading indoors.

In the yard, only Selena Kensington, Vincent Sinclair, and Cole Vaughn remained.

"You seem to have something to say to me." Facing Selena, Vincent Sinclair appeared unusually gentle.

Even his tone grew noticeably softer.

Selena nodded slightly.

Her gaze was steady on Vincent Sinclair, with a hint of darkness underneath, "Was my parents’ incident orchestrated by you?"

Vincent Sinclair paused at Selena’s words.

He sighed, shaking his head eventually.

"No."

Warmly, he explained to Selena, "You know Winston Kensington and Rachel Shaw fled upon discovering the truth about the experiment, but not that it coincided with internal strife within The Godsbane Organization. Because they were recruited externally, certain factions coveted their abilities and attempted to recruit them."

"Ultimately, I helped them escape. Regrettably, I hadn’t anticipated such relentless pursuit, reaching your father’s doorstep, involving your family. I was too late to intervene, so I could only save you."

Vincent Sinclair continued slowly.

The change in the experimental base resulted from the organization’s internal strife.

Vincent was aware those people targeted the Kensington Family partially due to his handling of entities and internal informants. Thus, insiders promptly notified him when incidents occurred.

Yet, he arrived too late, managing only to insist they spared Selena.

Listening to Vincent Sinclair’s words, Selena Kensington found unexpected solace.
