Chapter 247: Chapter 241: Supervising Your Sleep 2

’So you just left her there to work her fingers to the bone while you came back to play with Gu Muxue, is that it?’

She had seen it on the plane. Gu Muxue seemed thrilled to be returning to Hedong, but she obviously had far more friends back where they came from...

The only reason she’d be this happy was that her son was also back in Hedong.

This whole thing was giving her a headache. That girl, Gu Muxue, was wonderful, too. Especially after spending this time with her. Though she subconsciously compared Gu Muxue to Lin Ruoxi, Gu Muxue didn’t lose out in any respect...

But that other girl was just so pitiful. She leaned more toward Lin Ruoxi, even if it was a bit biased of her...

"Talk," Xie Jianfeng said, leaning back on the sofa. The Qingbei admissions team had told him about the situation with Lin Ruoxi.

He and his wife had already discussed it on the way back. Just a moment ago, they’d even had a small disagreement because their goals didn’t align.

He felt it was all Xue Rui’s fault. The boy was just too good at stirring up trouble!

Xue Rui obediently sat on the sofa. "I only have a few female classmates. Can’t I go out and have fun with them?"

"Honey, don’t hold me back! I’m going to beat him to a pulp today!" Xie Jianfeng said as he unbuckled his LV belt. This kid still dared to call her a "classmate" when the admissions team had called her his fiancée.

Xue Rui’s brow twitched, and he quickly hid behind the sofa. "I’m telling the absolute truth!"

Ren Qunfang gave Xie Jianfeng a puzzled look. When had she held him back?

’Aren’t you the one pressing your whole body against me?’

"If your mother hadn’t stopped me, your butt would be black and blue today!" Xie Jianfeng said with a look of indignation as he threaded his belt back through the loops.

Xue Rui was already so much more mature than other kids his age. Those other spoiled, second-generation rich kids only came home to ask for money when they were broke...

But his son, with a net worth in the hundreds of millions, still knew to come home and visit. How could he bear to actually lay a hand on him?

Xue Rui thought his old man’s acting was top-notch. ’He puts all those pretty-boy actors to shame!’

Xue Yao had been waiting around the corner of the stairs for a while, only to find that her brother wasn’t getting a beating after all?

She didn’t even get a chance to put on a show.

The three of them sat around the coffee table, each with different thoughts on their mind.

Xue Rui thought, ’What’s the point of sitting here? We should all just go to our rooms and sleep. It’s past ten. What is this, an interrogation?’

"Xiaorui, what are you really thinking?" Ren Qunfang asked.

"I’m only eighteen. My thinking isn’t mature yet," Xue Rui sighed.

"Oh? You’ve really got some nerve. I wonder who you take after." Xie Jianfeng frowned. ’Is this little brat really using his age as a shield right now?’

Ren Qunfang shot Xie Jianfeng a disdainful look. "Who do you think?"

"I still think Muxue is better," Xie Jianfeng stated.

"No, no, no. You’ve never met that girl, Xixi. I don’t think any man could refuse a girl like her," Ren Qunfang said.

While his parents were arguing, Xue Rui quietly started to lift himself off the sofa.

"Sit down!" Xie Jianfeng and Ren Qunfang snapped in unison.

A shiver went down Xue Rui’s spine. ’They really are in sync.’

Suddenly, Gu Muxue called. Xue Rui showed the phone screen to Xie Jianfeng.

Xie Jianfeng smiled and nodded. "Go on, go on."

Ren Qunfang glared at Xie Jianfeng. "Xixi doesn’t have parents. I just think she’s so pitiful."

Xie Jianfeng nodded slightly. "She is pitiful, but an unstable family background means there’s a high probability of personality issues. That could affect Xiaorui’s future children."

"It’s because she’s pitiful that I want to take extra care of her. I gave Xixi the old house we had when we first got married." Ren Qunfang didn’t refute his point; Lin Ruoxi did indeed have personality issues.

She hadn’t discussed giving the house away with Xie Jianfeng. Knowing she was in the wrong, she stole glances at his face to gauge his reaction.

Xie Jianfeng was stunned for a moment, then waved his hand dismissively. "If you gave it away, you gave it away. When Xiaorui gets married, I’ll just buy him a bigger one."

Ren Qunfang massaged her forehead. ’How did I get into an argument with my husband over this?’ She knew Xie Jianfeng was incredibly thorough, even considering the mental well-being of his future grandchildren...

From a long-term perspective, Gu Muxue was obviously the best marriage partner for their son, but her heart just ached for Lin Ruoxi.

’If I don’t even take Lin Ruoxi’s side, what will happen to that girl if my son decides to act foolishly?’

For a moment, the atmosphere between them seemed to freeze.

Xie Jianfeng ran a hand through his hair, stood up, and fetched a bottle of wine. "Honey, let’s not worry about the kid. He’s going off to college soon. Who can say what the future holds?"

Ren Qunfang took the wine glass. "Xiaorui is right. He’s only eighteen, so what’s the rush? People get married much later these days, not like back in our time."

"It’s just so infuriating to hear those words come out of his own mouth."

CLINK. The glasses touched lightly, and the tense atmosphere began to dissipate.

...

「Xue Rui’s Room」

"What’s up?" Gu Muxue found it odd. She had been about to go to sleep when Xue Rui suddenly texted her, asking her to call him back.

"Nothing much. Want to hang out tomorrow?" Xue Rui asked.

He had hired an agency to handle some business paperwork for him. In the near future, he would likely have to travel between several cities. ’Starting a business really isn’t a job for humans.’ Luckily, his young, eighteen-year-old body could take the strain, and he could still make time to hang out with Gu Muxue.

"When? Should I have Uncle Yang come pick you up?" Gu Muxue asked in a low voice.

Xue Rui hesitated for a moment. "I bought a car. I’ll take you out tomorrow."

"You finished your driver’s test?" Gu Muxue asked.

She couldn’t help but marvel at how fast Xue Rui picked things up. ’Aside from his academics, he excels far beyond his peers in every other aspect.’

Xue Rui laughed. "You’ll see tomorrow. Good night."

’He hadn’t specified what kind of car he’d bought, after all. An electric scooter was a vehicle, too.’
