"Yeah, good night," Gu Muxue said before hanging up.
She hugged the little bear Xue Rui had given her and suddenly felt a little anxious.

After hanging up, Xue Rui sent a message to Yu Minlan.
Xue Rui: Are you asleep?

’Didn’t your message wake me up?’ She’d even given Xue Rui a custom notification sound, different from everyone else’s. She never thought he’d be spouting such nonsense in the middle of the night.

"Keep it down. Don’t wake her," Xue Rui said.
When he was with the little lass, she always went to sleep after him and woke up before him.
He didn’t know why, but whenever he knew Lin Ruoxi was beside him, he slept like a rock. Even if he wanted to wake up in the middle of the night to sneak a peek at the little lass, it was impossible.
He slept too soundly after soaking his feet. He couldn’t get up—he simply couldn’t get up at all.

On the screen, the little lass was in pink pajamas, hugging a pillow and curled into a ball.

Unfortunately, the video was too blurry to make out the little lass’s face.
Yu Minlan sent Xue Rui a message: "She took all the pillows from your room."
Xue Rui thought to himself that the little lass really hadn’t been lying to him. She was actually sleeping with the pillows he had used.

Yu Minlan quickly typed out a line: Her pillow is wet. It looks like she was just crying.
Xue Rui’s heart skipped a beat. A sudden wave of guilt washed over him, as if he’d abandoned his wife and child.
He hung up on Yu Minlan and dialed Lin Ruoxi.
Seeing that Xue Rui was calling her, the little lass’s face immediately lit up with joy.
"You need to get some proper sleep. I’m tired too," Xue Rui said.
"Okay, good night," Lin Ruoxi answered softly, the corners of her mouth gradually drooping.
’I’m so useless,’ she thought. ’I never know what to talk to Xue Rui about.’
’Whenever Xue Rui calls his classmate Gu Muxue, they talk for ages. All I can ever think to ask is if he’s hungry...’
