Chapter 97: Ch 96: Feeling if Guilt

"Finally, that takes care of one problem. What about you all? I am sure what happened with Roku must be hard on you as well. I will arrange for some therapy sessions to talk about it."

Kael did not feel much after what happened, but it was because he had time on his side.

Besides, he had been in the medical field in his past life. He had seen his fair share of mercy kills. So this was nothing new for him.

’I am sure Iris and Lyra will be fine. And Leon...he never liked Roku, but I should not rule out the possibility that this affected him as well. But the one I am worried about is this one.’

Seraphina was not at the stage where she could handle death. Her mind was fragile and there was no telling what stress might do to her.

So Kael wanted to help her regain some sense of balance before it was too late.

"Alright, it’s decided. We will have a two-day session about this right now. So, who would like to start with what happened and how it made you feel?"

Kael asked while looking at the humanoid trio in front of him.

Iris was the oldest, so she decided to speak about her experience first.

"It was nothing special for me. It was not my first time facing a young kid and making sure to put him out of his misery. It was not pleasant, but not a scarring experience for me either."

That was one piece of good news. Kael nodded to show Iris that he understood and respected her decision.

Next, it was Leon’s turn, and his detached look made Kael feel a little guilty for asking him to speak.

"I don’t know what you want me to say, but let me begin by saying that I am not sorry. My instincts told me that killing that thing was the right thing to do."

Leon sounded confident, but Kael could hear a hint of defensiveness slipping into his tone. The kid was trying his best not to show his nervousness regarding Kael’s decision.

Kael had a decision to make here, but he decided to go with encouragement.

He wanted to tell Leon that killing was bad, but as a hero, Leon could not avoid such confrontations. The reason Kael had such views was due to his life in the modern world. But he needed to shed that knowledge and adapt to these times.

"You did good, Leon. As the hero, your instincts are special. So you should listen to them as much as you can."

Kael told him, and Leon just scoffed to show that he already knew.

And then came the one person Kael actually wanted to hear from.

Seraphina looked down at her hands with a blank expression. She was finding it harder and harder to speak, so Kael allowed her to take her time. He did not want to rush her into anything she did not want to say.

"I-I killed someone. I did not mean to, but that feeling...! I knew that if I did not do anything, then it would be bad. P-Please don’t hate me!"

Seraphina sounded like she was about to cry, and Kael immediately walked toward her and patted her shoulder.

It made Iris look up at him immediately, and unshed tears lined her eyes.

"There is no need to feel guilty for doing what needed to be done. Not everyone can be saved, Seraphina. And oftentimes, doing the right thing is much more important than doing what is expected of you."

Kael assured her, and Seraphina finally looked relieved.

"I-I see. So, I did not make a mistake by ending Roku’s life? I don’t need to feel guilty, right? You won’t hate me?"

Seraphina asked in a desperate voice, and Kael had a feeling that things could get ugly if he messed up here.

So he simply reached his hand out and ruffled Seraphina’s hair.

"That’s right! As long as you are sure you are doing the right thing, I will always stand behind you and cheer you on. So there is no need for you to feel afraid."

Seraphina nodded, and her eyes darkened. She looked much more confident...but her eyes made Kael feel fear for some reason.

The sudden notifications distracted Kael, and he stopped petting Seraphina before he stood up and walked toward the counter to bring out some snacks.

"Since it was such a hard day, let’s finish it by eating snacks."

Kael told them all and placed snacks in front of the others to enjoy. And while they enjoyed these snacks, he kneeled in front of Lyra to give her some snacks as well.

"Here, you did good as well. Are you finally feeling relaxed now that the smell of corruption is no longer around? I am sorry for forcing you to be in a space with such a presence."

Kael apologized to Lyra, mainly because he felt like he had wronged her. She was the one who had come closest to becoming corrupted here.

But Lyra looked at him for a few seconds before she took her snacks as a form of apology.

At least that was one problem taken care of. Now, it was only a matter of what was about to happen next and how he could stop that problem.

__________

"This is a problem. My adorable puppet fell into the hands of that mad scientist. I guess I have no choice but to break the connection. Ah, what a pity! I really liked that kid as well."

Chairwoman Lumi Lena let out a sigh before she cut off the string in front of her. With this, her connection to Roku...or what was supposed to be Roku got cut off instantly.

But her plans were far from over.

This little experiment of hers was what allowed her to find out precious truths about this world and about corruption, and the most important one was the fact that it was possible to use the power of corruption and not lose one’s senses to it.

"What a splendid discovery. But this much experimentation is not enough. I need more specimens. I guess it’s time for me to become more active and get some demons for the next stage. I am sure the Duke won’t mind providing me with some."
