Chapter 138: Ch 137: Invite from the temple

In the end, Kael decided that there was no point in thinking about this anymore.

The traces of what happened had been erased, and the kids looked sorry for letting their magic out and causing trouble.

Everything was fine...even when it did not feel fine to Kael.

"I will go and settle the bill with the innkeeper now. You all should finish your food in the meantime. Make sure to chew and swallow thoroughly."

Kael warned the kids, and they nodded before they went back to eating.

Leon waited for Kael to leave before he turned toward the other two with a frown on his face.

"When did you both learn to act that well? If I did not know what you did, I would actually think it was all a coincidence."

Leon asked, and Seraphina replied with a smile on her face.

"Hmm, but I am not acting. I truly do feel guilty...because Kael caught me. I did not want to make him worry about me. I should have been more careful about leaving marks behind."

Seraphina’s words made Leon shake his head and decide that she was beyond help at this point.

And yet, he could not say that he disagreed with her actions.

Kael returned soon, and then it was time for them to head back home. And this time, Kael decided to use magic to get back.

He had already rested for a day, and his magic had recovered. He did not want to spend a single night away from home if he could help it.

"Cardinal Flux, the war is over. What do we do about the promises we made to the nobles? They are asking what we are going to do to keep our promise to them."

Cardinal Flux looked at his secretary with bloodshot eyes. He was already losing sleep over what had happened, and this just made the situation worse.

The war had already ended a few days ago, and things had returned to normal...for the most part.

But the nobles he had managed to convince to invest in the war were not happy and were forcing him to prove the profits he had promised them.

"Tsk, can’t those fools see that I cannot do anything here? The Saintess interfered along with the Hero. My authority has been stripped..."

There was no longer anything Cardinal Flux could do. And that was why he had asked the Head Cardinal for help.

"Sir, are you sure the Head Cardinal will help?"

"Of course not! That old man won’t risk his head for nothing."

"So, what do we do now?"

The secretary asked, and Cardinal Flux let out a sigh.

"We have no choice. We will have to fake things. If the current Hero won’t be of any use to us, then we have no choice but to choose another Hero to replace him."

Cardinal Flux declared, shocking the secretary.

"E-Excuse me, sir...but what do you mean? The Hero is chosen by the Goddess. We cannot just..."

"We can and we will. I know of a way to make it all possible. All you have to do is keep your mouth shut. Or I will make you disappear."

The secretary nodded and instantly shut his mouth.

Cardinal Flux liked this secretary of his. He was quick-witted and knew when to keep his mouth shut. He was different from his previous two secretaries, and that’s why he had lasted this long.

"For now, get me a kid that matches these characteristics. And get ready to invite the Saintess to the temple. I will need her to do something for me."

It was time for the Cardinal to pull some strings and call in a few favors.

The Saintess was going to deliver a prophecy for him, but to do that, he needed to control her briefly. But since Seraphina’s powers were too strong, he would need some external help to do that.

As for Kael...?

"I am sure I will find a way to take him by surprise. He might be a Grand Master, but he’s not the only Grand Master."

Finally, it was time to appoint a new Hero. And this time, it would be someone who would listen to him.

’Finally, home sweet home. I want to head back to my room and rest. I feel like I just had a 48-hour shift at the hospital.’

Kael felt emotional as soon as he saw his house. He immediately headed inside, and a clean house welcomed him in.

’Ah, magic is such a convenient tool. I don’t have to worry about coming back to a dirty apartment or worrying about cooking and cleaning. I can finally relax-’

A bird landed on his shoulder and immediately turned into paper. Kael had received a letter, and it was sent by Cardinal Flux.

The peaceful feeling he was having immediately drained away, and he let out a sigh.

"Mother, are you alright? You look worried. Do you need my help?"

Elena asked, and Kael patted her head (which was the same height as his) before turning toward Seraphina.

"I don’t need your help. Lyra will come to take you in an hour to complete the formalities. For now, why don’t you get settled in? Seraphina, you can show Elena the room next to yours. She can use it when she’s here."

Kael was giving Elena a permanent room in his house to show that she was a member of the family.

He had to admit that his house was getting noisier each day, but he did not mind. He had more space than he knew what to do with.

Seraphina’s expression looked sour for a second, but she quickly masked it and nodded.

"I will show Elena around, so you don’t need to worry about anything. Elena, come with me."

Iris followed the pair at a slower pace, and Kael allowed them to leave before he opened the letter addressed to him.

"Is it from the temple? I can sense holy magic on it."

Leon asked, and Kael’s heart skipped a beat as he was startled by him. He had forgotten all about Leon.

But it was too late to distract him. So Kael decided to tell him the truth.

"That’s right. This is a letter from the temple. And I have a feeling it is going to end up irritating me."
