Chapter 136: Ch 135: In the middle of the night

Elena’s magic felt cold, even when Seraphina was standing away from her. The nature of their magic was the polar opposite, which also caused a natural repulsion between them.

They could have never been friends under normal circumstances.

But they were both willing to put their differences behind them when it came to Kael.

For now, Elena seemed to be having trouble controlling her magic. But the fact that she could use it without losing control painted her as fairly strong.

It’s a good thing she’s on our side now. I would hate to go against her.’

Once was more than enough.

’Ah, looks like that necromancer decided to join Kael’s side after all. It’s a pity she’s not long for this world. Kael’s pity is wasted on her.’

The familiar voice whispered in Iris’s ears, and she tightened her hold on her sword to restrain herself.

’Don’t worry. I won’t make you harm anyone...unless you want me to.’

Iris knew that the voice was talking about those people who made fun of Kael. It was making her acknowledge her own desire for revenge.

’I guess I am no better than these two in that regard.’

However, Iris had a responsibility here...maybe.

’Play with the kids for now. And once you are ready, call for me. I will erase the evidence for you.’

...

"Ugh, I cannot fall asleep. My body is killing me. Water! I need water!"

It was the middle of the night, and there was no one around to serve the people. However, a dozen people walked out of their rooms and started to roam around with the single purpose of finding water.

Their feet moved toward the kitchen, not knowing they were headed toward their demise.

Since they were all heading the same way, it did not take them long to run into each other.

"Y-You! What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to ask you the same thing."

"My throat is parched! I want water...Where is the water?"

They all walked toward the kitchen where only a single pitcher of water was left, and they all reached for it desperately.

But their bodies refused to feel satisfied no matter how much they drank.

"I-I need more. I need to have more. T-The lake. I need the water from there!"

Once one of them had the idea, the others started to head toward the lake. They leaned down toward the lake to drink, but something grabbed their heads from behind and dunked them underwater.

Suddenly, they all could no longer breathe, and they struggled to get up.

"Don’t worry! It will all be over soon. You won’t have to feel this pain for much longer."

Seraphina’s voice echoed around the dying men’s ears like a sweet charm. Unfortunately, they could not lift their heads and look at her.

Their bodies fell into the lake one by one, and they would be devoured by the monsters in the water before morning came.

Seraphina watched this with a smile and only got up after the last person fell into the water.

"Well, I guess your powers do have some neat uses. What did you do to them? I thought necromancers could only deal with the dead?"

Elena looked uncomfortable but proud of what she had done at the same time.

"I dehydrated their bodies. I...have no idea how I knew I could do this."

Iris was the only one who still had a disturbed look on her face. But she was not disgusted by what had happened. Instead, she was a little put off that she could not participate.

’Looks like these two have learned new tricks. What a shame! I was looking forward to showing off as well.’

The voice whispered before it backed off. Iris could no longer feel its presence, and it made her sigh in relief.

"Hey, let’s get back before someone notices that we are out here."

She called to the other two, and they headed back, only to see the silhouette of someone walking their way.

They tensed, ready to fight their way out, only to see Leon.

"What are you three doing out here in the middle of the night?"

Leon did not sound surprised to see them out, which likely meant that he already knew they were out.

He likely also knew what they had done.

So the only question was—what was he going to do about it?

Seraphina decided to question Leon while Iris was still thinking about how to get out of this situation.

"Are you going to tell Kael about what we just did? I already know you saw everything anyway."

To be able to smile and ask this question so calmly...Seraphina had truly grown up from the timid girl she had been just a few weeks before.

But with everything that had happened, it was not hard to see why.

As for Leon? It was still hard to read him.

"I won’t say anything to Kael for now because I don’t want to worry him. But I would advise you to keep your heads down for now. You can only fool them for so long."

Leon advised, and Seraphina nodded before she walked past him and toward their room. Elena followed, and Iris waited a few seconds before following.

She noticed Leon putting something into the lake, and there was the sound of snapping jaws before Iris decided not to look at the scene anymore.

’Ah, it seems that Leon has not changed after coming back. He used to be so pure and gullible, and now look at him. But well, he’s not the only one who changed. Seraphina almost looked like her old self when she faced Leon. Now, you just need to accept me, and everything can go back to normal.’

"Tsk, as if! I refuse to believe that you are me. There is no way I will turn out to be as twisted as you..."

Iris whispered, but in her heart, she had a feeling she was already failing. And that voice knew as well because it just laughed louder and louder until Iris fell asleep.
