Chapter 133: Ch 132: Back to Reality

The city scape started to break down around the pair, leaving the world in a state of black and white.

Kael felt a sense of loss as he watched the once-familiar world of his being reduced to nothing. But he knew better than to dwell in the past and letting it control him.

"Let’s find the exit to this place now, Elena."

Kael looked around before he turned toward Elena, only to see her collapsed on her knees and panting. Her face looked flushed but pale at the same time. Was she sick?

"Elena..."

Kael reached out to help Elena out but she shrinked away from him and forced herself back on her feet.

"I am fine. I just feel weak-legged adn exhausted because I used too much magic. I will be fine after a while."

Elena assured Kael, but he did not buy her excuses.

Mana exhaustion was a huge deal for most people. It was not only a source of power, but the source of life for most people. That was why man exhaustion needed to be taken seriously.

Kael grabbed Elena’s arm and pulled her up. He made her lean against him (despite her protests) and started walking.

"Hey, I can take care of myself. I am fine-"

"But I am not fine. I will continuye to feel guilty if anything happeden to you here. So allow me to help."

Whatever Elena wanted to say got cut off and she felt tongue-tied in front of Rin.

One look at him and Elena knew she could not win against him. So she did not even bother to try. Instead, she closed her eyes and leaned more of her weight against him.

"Ah, I give up! I don’t think I can win against you anyway. Just...don’t try and push yourself too hard for my sake."

Elena asked and Kael felt a chuckle escaping his lips.

"Don’t worry. I won’t put myself in danger. I still have a strong will to live."

Kael assured her as he continued to walk around. He could sense the magic that would lead them out of here and he followed it to the door.

It was a white and unassuming door that blended with the surroundings. And yet, it felt firm under Kael’s hands.

He turned the knob and the door opened for him.

"Let’s head home."

He told Elena and she let out a girlish giggle.

It was the first time she had done something like this but it weirdly suited her.

"Ah, sure. Going back home sounds nice."

Kael stepped forward but instead of following, Elena stood back and broke free of his grip.

"Elena...?"

The necromancer took a sharp breath and tears finally struck her eyes.

"I...was really happy after spending time with you. This was what I wanted since the start. However, I...cannot come back with you. As much as I want to step forward, I have exhausted my mana and my existence is unsteady. I will be a burden for both you and my current self. So it’s best to leave me here as a lock for corruption."

Elena had a peaceful expression on her face, but what she was suggesting was akin to suicide.

If she got stuck here, she likely won’t ever be able to come back.

"Don’t be ridiculous. You cannot stay back-"

"This is my final request. My spirit cannot hold on any longer. So think of this as my final request. In return, I will give you my powers of necromancy. Now, get going-"

Elena gently placed her hand on Kael’s chest before she pushed him. It was such a sudden action that Kael did not even have the time to react.

The door closed and Elena let out a sigh of relief.

"It’s disappointing, but what can I do? I am too exhausted to-"

The door snapped open and Kael reached out to grab her.

"You are coming with me. Did you forget? I was your guardian, and we never revoked it. So I am still your guardian and I say you are coming back home with me."

"You-!"

Elena tried to reason with herself about what was happening, but it felt like it was too much.

Kael was dragging her through the door and she was too shocked to stop him.

"I will accept the burden of your powers. But that does not mean I will abandon you. If you are tired, then sleep in your current body until you are ready to coexist. I will look after you until you can look after yourself."

Kael assured Elena and tears finally started to fall from her eyes. But these were not tears of sorrow, but one of joy.

"W-What the hell? What kind of ridiculous thing are you saying? You will look after me? What are you? My mother?"

Elena asked and Kael took a deep sigh before he tugged her after him.

"I admit that I am nto fond of that name. But you can call me that if it makes you feel comfortable."

Elena let uot another laugh as she followed him out. The exit to this space was finally starting to look visible.

It was time to head home.

"Well then, I guess I am in your care now, mother."

"I would really wish for you to not call me that. As for your powers...keep them with you. Increase, help me out when I need them."

Kael told Elena but he was willing to accept her even if she did not change her ways. They finally broke through and Kael felt Elena’s hand disappearing from his own. His body also felt heavier and his eyes stung.

He was waking up and he immediately saw flashes of color in front of him. But the most prominent one was the all-consuming red.

It looked familiar and Kael found it hard to turn his head away from that brilliant color. He tried to reach for it and check what it was, but the red moved away from him.

"Seraphina, get away. He’s awake now. Let him breathe."

Leon’s voice made Kael groan and he realized where he was and what he had been doing. It took a few seconds for his mind to catch up with his body, but once he did, he immediately started looking around for Elena.

"Kael, calm down. If you are looking for Elena, then she is down here. She collapsed as soon as she grabbed your hand to head inside your consciousness. Now that you are awake, she should wake up as well."

Leon pointed out and Kael let out a sigh of relief.
