Chapter 132: Ch 131: First Date - Part 2

"Wahhh~ How romantic. This is such a good movie. I am in love with it."

The loud yells of admiration woke Kael up, and he stretched his body as he got up from the recliner he was sitting in, only to be grabbed and instantly pulled back down by someone sitting behind him.

"Hey, can’t you see that we are trying to watch the movie? Stop blocking my view."

Kael quickly sat back down, but he did not apologize. After all, there was no point in feeling sorry for people who did not even exist.

He did feel concerned about Elena’s reaction, but she was completely engrossed in the movie and not even paying attention to anything else that was happening. Tears stung her eyes, and she seemed to be having a hard time controlling herself.

Kael decided to let her be for now, and he sat through the last 10 minutes of the movie’s climax with her.

On the screen, the boy and the girl confessed, and the movie ended. The credits rolled, and the lights came back on, indicating that it was time for them to leave.

Kael got up with everyone else to leave, but Elena kept sitting there, looking at the now-empty screen in front of her.

"Elena, it’s time for us to go."

Kael reminded her, and she nodded before following him out. But her eyes kept looking at the large screen where the movie had been playing.

"That play...those actors must be good at showing such expressions all the time. I wonder how much practice it would have taken..."

Elena wondered, and Kael gave up on explaining to her what a movie was and how it was made. Instead, he allowed Elena to gush about her experience.

It felt nice to see her this excited like a normal person. Her usual depressed and suicidal self was nowhere to be seen.

’This modern lifestyle seems to suit Elena quite a bit. I wonder if it would have been better for her to be born in this world instead...’

Not that there was any point in him thinking about that anymore. He needed to focus on the current problem before the corruption swallowed them whole.

As for everything else...that could wait.

The movie had not been long, but it was already starting to get dark outside. The sense of time in this world had started to distort. Kael had noticed that the day-night cycle was getting shorter each time he was forced to restart.

And now, the corruption was finally here.

"Elena, how about we talk about this date once we get out of here?"

Kael asked, and Elena nodded.

"I agree. So, are you going to act on the count of three?"

"Alright. 1...2..."

The corruption decided to strike before Kael could finish speaking. It formed a tide, threatening to drown them both. But unfortunately for it, Elena was ready and blocked it with a shield.

The wave crashed against her shield, causing sparks. But even those were swallowed by the corruption.

"What is this? Did you find an ally? Well, not that it matters. You can both drown together and come to my side."

The corruption’s voice was much clearer this time, indicating that it had grown stronger over time. Even Kael was having a hard time, never mind Elena...who was gasping for breath.

’Darn it! Elena is not used to this pressure, and her mentality is fragile. I need to finish this soon.’

Kael grabbed Elena’s hand, and she looked at him with a wide-eyed expression.

"I-I am fine! I can still hold on-!"

"Elena, it’s time."

Kael told her, and it took her a few seconds to realize what he meant. But once she understood what Kael was asking of her, her eyes hardened and she nodded.

"I understand. I will do my best to draw it all out."

Elena closed her eyes, and her magic made her body shine brighter and brighter until it was impossible to look at her. And then, that glow moved toward Kael, creating a connection with his main body.

"Don’t try the impossible. You won’t be able to get out."

The corruption whispered, but it was becoming disturbed. Kael could feel the tide around them growing more and more agitated.

"I will drown you before you can use your powers. And then, you both will belong to me."

The tide came crashing down this time, and the barrier broke. Elena forced another barrier up in time before the tide could sweep them both away.

She was panting heavily, keeping the barrier up while connecting Kael with his body at the same time.

The strain of using her powers was making her body burn, but she refused to give up.

"Foolish, dear Elena. You are trying so hard, and you are even ready to end it all for your beloved’s sake. But he does not feel the same way about you. Don’t you think it’s unfair? Doesn’t it make you want to monopolize him?"

The soft voice whispered into Elena’s ears, tempting her to give up and join forces.

"Kael cares about you, but not to the extent you want him to, right? I can feel how lonely you are. So why don’t you allow me to help you get what you want—Kael’s love? All you have to do is drop that barrier. Now, do it for me, and I will give you what you want."

The promise was like wine laced with poison. It was so tempting that it felt worth accepting.

And Elena...started to lower her barrier.

"Hey, you promised, right? That you will do whatever I want? Then, there is only one thing I want."

Elena looked up, and her face radiated a beautiful smile.

"Go to hell, you darn corruption."

Kael’s magic burned the corruption away. He had finally managed to reconnect with his source of mana and turn it into holy power. It radiated through the landscape, eroding both the illusion and the corruption.

"Ah, I see. So it was all an act? That hurt. But a promise is a promise. I will go now. Let’s meet again in hell. I promise I will drag you and Kael there one day."
