Chapter 131: Ch 130: First Date - Part 1

"Hmm, where should I take you first? A restaurant? An aquarium? Or maybe an amusement park?"

Kael tried to picture Elena at different locations, but anything with too many people did not seem to suit her.

Knowing her nature, somewhere quiet with not many people would be best for her temperament.

"Alright, let’s go watch a movie."

In the end, Kael decided that it would be best to head to a movie theater. He did not want to overwhelm Elena by taking her around too much.

Elena nodded and followed him out. But she kept looking around with a shocked expression on her face. Everything in this space was new to her.

There was no nearby movie theater where Kael lived, and the nearest one was 15 minutes away by metro. So he took Elena to the station to catch their ride.

Elena followed after him with an almost conflicted expression on her face. But once inside the underground metro, she relaxed.

"Does being down here make you feel closer to your powers?"

Necromancy powers were generally related to the ground and earth, but that was because that was where bones and ashes were buried after death.

It was rumored that the closer a necromancer was to the world’s core, the more powerful they would become.

Kael had never believed those words, but there seemed to be some truth to that rumor because Elena looked relaxed.

"It’s...not like that. Those rumors are not true. It’s just...quieter down here. The noise of souls doesn’t reach us when we are underground...Although, that does not seem to be the case here. Just what is this place? You seem to know it pretty well."

Elena was not trying to probe Kael with her questions. She genuinely looked interested in knowing more about him.

And unlike the others, Elena had her memories from the past, so he felt like he could talk to her about this place.

"This space is created in the image of the world I ended up in after I died. It had no mana, and the people here are all humans. And yet, they seem to have made incredible progress. Don’t you agree?"

Elena looked like she did not believe his words, and Kael knew that even he would have found his claims ridiculous if he had not lived in this society.

For someone who was used to the existence of magic and having it control every aspect of their day-to-day life, thinking of a world without magic as comfortable was unthinkable.

Still, Elena did not outright deny Kael’s claims, and they reached the station.

The station was packed with people, so Kael grabbed Elena’s hand to pull her along. It was a tight squeeze, but they made it through in one piece.

The rest of their journey was a 10-minute walk, and they reached the movie theater.

Kael did not recall what movie was playing. Between his work-life balance and need for rest, he had no time to spend on movies or entertainment. That was why this place must have chosen a movie at random that he remembered and placed it there.

"How about this one, Elena? I have a feeling you would like it."

Kael pointed toward the poster for the only first-installment movie in the theater, and Elena nodded...not that she knew what was good or bad to watch in the first place.

But her tense body made Kael look behind him, and he noticed that the corner of his vision was being tainted black. Corruption was starting to eat away at this world.

"Kael, should we...?"

"No. Pretend you did not notice anything odd right now. You need to make the corruption think that you have not noticed its presence."

Kael had a feeling that the corruption did not know about Elena. Otherwise, it would not have stayed this calm for long.

This meant that Elena was their trump card in this situation.

"I...alright. I will try to calm down..."

Elena promised, and Kael took her to the ticket window.

"I want two tickets."

Kael ordered, and the ticket attendant printed two before looking at him and Elena. Her expression turned alert and confused as she looked at him, then at Elena, and then back at him.

"Sir, would it be possible for me to see both of your IDs?"

The ticket attendant asked in a concerned voice. But this movie was not even R18, so why was there a need for an ID check...?

Unless...

The attendant was looking at Elena with a barely hidden expression of concern. It suddenly became clear why she wanted to see their IDs.

’Huh? Does this lady think that Elena is a minor or something? Well, Sera’s face does look younger than she actually is, and Elena is currently in her body...’

Kael suddenly felt like he was being misunderstood by the ticket attendant, and Elena looked like she had no idea what was going on either.

Luckily, Kael knew where Sera kept her ID because of his various attempts to end this illusion.

"Elena, can you take the small card out of your purse and hand it over?"

Kael whispered into Elena’s ear, and she nodded before taking out Sera’s ID and handing it over. The attendant then looked at Kael’s ID, which showed that he was not much older than her.

The ticket attendant looked at Sera’s ID and then at her face before a blush spread across her cheeks.

"Ah, your IDs have been confirmed. Thank you for your purchase. I hope you have a nice day."

Kael nodded and quickly ushered Elena into the theater.

"Huh? Did something happen outside?"

Elena asked in a worried voice, and Kael shook his head.

"You don’t need to worry about it. That lady was just verifying our ages. For now, let’s focus on the movie, alright? I chose the one I think you will like best."

The movie started, and it did not take long for Elena to become engrossed in it and forget about what had just happened.

Kael also let out a sigh of relief once he saw that Elena was distracted, and he closed his eyes. The movie was playing, but his body decided it wanted Kael to rest, and he fell asleep 10 minutes into the prologue.
