Chapter 130: Ch 129: True Identity

Kael felt like he was losing his mind inside the corruption’s illusion. He could not even count how many times he had died, but what he did know was that it did not feel good to die.

He either had to die at Sera’s hands, or kill her and then die. It felt like a never-ending cycle he was trapped inside.

And yet, he knew that he could not give up. He would be devoured by the corruption the second he let his guard down.

But would it be so bad? You will finally get to have some peaceful times. Don’t you want that? To have a carefree life where you won’t be bothered?’

It was a tempting offer, and Kael would have even considered taking it...but the one making this offer was the corruption.

That instantly made the offer invalid in Kael’s heart.

’Resistance is futile. The more you try to run away, the more you will be drawn to the sense of freedom we can give you. You already experienced it for yourself, right?’

’You can get rid of your stalker any time you want to. But your hesitation to break free is holding you back. You are subconsciously trying your best to end your life because you are afraid.’

’But if you surrender yourself to us, that fear will go away. So don’t be afraid and lean into our embrace. We will make you feel the warmth that you are missing.’

The corruption was getting louder and bolder with its attempts to seduce Kael, and it was becoming more and more exhausting to keep the voice out.

Still, Kael was not unstable enough to hand his life and freedom over to corruption.

’Hehehe, that’s what you say now. But sooner or later, you will give in. Your mind is strong, but it cannot hold on forever.’

’And we...? We have until the end of time to convince you to choose us.’

The voice giggled, and Kael felt even more irritated. He headed to his office while still irritated and opened the door.

It was the same scene of Sera playing with his ID and then stealing it. But then she said something he never expected her to say.

She told Kael that she was Elena.

’Darn it! Can corruption even pull such information from my memories? What kind of new torture is this?’

He did not believe Sera when she first claimed to be Elena. But there was something about her that had changed...

Her eyes...they were blue instead of their usual color. That was an abnormality he had never noticed before.

’Wait...is she telling the truth? Is that really Elena and not Sera?’

Kael felt like he had to test Sera. But those eyes were telling him that the one he was facing was Elena.

’Should I...trust her this time? Maybe something will change if I do.’

Kael could not break through this prison anyway, but Elena was an external factor, and she had even come here using her own magic. It was possible that she could break him out of here.

"If you are Elena, then can you prove it?"

Kael did not expect to get any real proof. He was willing to believe Elena despite her lack of evidence.

But she decided to prove him wrong by showing him actual evidence.

She opened her palm, and Kael noticed a black spear forming in it. It was her mana, which she was making visible for him to see.

"I can still use my mana here. But the fact that you cannot must be the reason you are not able to break out of here. Should I try to forcefully break us out of here?"

Elena asked, and Kael almost agreed with her before he recalled the danger of the corruption looming over their heads.

It was possible that Elena would simply become a target if she tried to use her powers carelessly.

"Let’s wait for now. I have a feeling the corruption does not know you are here yet. So it would be best to catch it by surprise. Do you know of a way to cleanse the corruption?"

Kael asked, and Elena bit her lip while looking away.

"I...do know a few ways, but I don’t think I can use them yet. But I can help give you temporary access to your mana."

That was the best news Kael had heard since he got trapped in this nightmare. Still, his stance on the situation remained the same.

"Let’s wait until the evening when the corruption decides to crawl out. I will end it in one go at that time. You should also prepare yourself for that showdown."

Kael knew that Elena would suffer if she used her magic to restore his own. But it seemed like something she was determined to do.

"But before that, we have a day to spend. Since you are here, want to look around this world?"

Kael asked, and Elena had a troubled look on her face. He could clearly see her desire to ask him questions about what this place was, why it existed, and why it appeared in Kael’s dreams.

But she decided not to ask him any questions and simply held out her hand to Kael.

"Are you asking me out on a date? I have to admit that this is my first time being on a date with a living person. It feels exciting. Before, I could only use my helpers as my dates because no one wanted to take me out."

Elena had a soft look on her face as she spoke about her struggles.

Kael had known about her using her servants as her dates, but he had not thought much of it. He had just chalked it up to Elena’s preference.

He had never considered that it was because she had never been asked out...but it made sense.

Elena was a necromancer, and a shy one at that. Anyone who approached her either wanted to use her or put her down to make themselves feel better.

Elena was pretty, but her ’flaws’ made people overlook her...

"Well, then let’s make your first date meaningful. Would you give me the honor of being your escort today?"

Kael asked with a slight bow, and Elena looked taken aback. But she smiled and placed her hand in his.

This was a date she would never forget, even after she died.
