Chapter 129: Ch 128: Acting on Plan

The silence deepened after Elena’s declaration. No one there wanted to even think about Kael dying.

But the facts could not be changed. The only thing that could be changed was what they needed to do about the situation.

"Can you take someone else with you when you connect with Kael?"

Leon asked, and Elena hesitated before shaking her head.

"I don’t think I will be able to. I will hardly be able to connect to Kael in the first place, much less drag someone else in there with me."

Leon looked at Elena with narrowed eyes. He was not sure whether she was telling the truth or not, but one thing was clear—she had no intention of taking someone else with her.

"Hey-! It will be safer-"

Seraphina started to complain, only to be stopped by Leon. He was willing to put his trust in Elena this time.

Elena took the silence as Leon’s agreement and then looked at Seraphina and Iris. They both looked at her with suspicious expressions.

But even they were willing to put their trust in her this time.

Kael groaned beside her once more, and Elena turned her attention toward him. There was no time to waste here.

"I am going to connect with his consciousness as soon as I get a chance. But you need to wake Kael up as soon as he shows signs of becoming conscious. Meanwhile, I will try my best to keep him safe there."

There was no need for Elena to explain much. Everyone else understood the implications of her words.

Since this was a mental trap, there was no telling what Kael’s mental condition would be like. All they could do right now was pray that he was fine...and more importantly, sane.

Elena’s powers guided her, and she sensed the second Kael died. She used his death to create a connection between his soul and her powers. It worked, but the connection started to grow weaker as Kael came back to life.

Their connection was like an ever-thinning ribbon, and she grabbed it before it could snap. After all, she did not know when she was going to get another chance to connect to Kael like this if she lost this one.

But it was hard for her to continue like this. She needed another anchor to hold onto.

And luckily for her, she could sense the signal of the dead in this world.

The body she found was beyond corrupted, but she could force the corruption back with her powers. All she needed was to reach Kael and ensure he was able to get out of here.

When she opened her eyes, she was sitting in the middle of a room she had never seen before. The world around her looked different, and she felt like she had come to a different place.

"Where am I? Did corruption create this world? It is...far too detailed to be a mere dream."

It was clear that the details of this world were being pulled from someone’s subconscious, and that person was likely Kael.

Once she reached that conclusion, Elena had a theory about where she was. But she did not want to confirm her theory anytime soon.

She reached toward the table and picked up the ID that was lying on it out of curiosity.

[Name: Kael Mikailias]

The name was accompanied by Kael’s picture, but he looked different in it. He was definitely older and looked stressed. And yet, there was a serenity in his expression that she had never seen.

Looking at that ID made her feel uncomfortable, so she decided to put it back down. But just as she was about to do that, the door opened, and Kael looked at her with knowing eyes.

Elena felt like she had been caught doing something she was not supposed to. So she tried to hide the evidence and put the ID back.

"Sera, what are you doing here? Your appointment isn’t for another hour."

Kael questioned, and Elena froze in shock. She knew she needed to say something, but seeing Kael left her speechless.

The man in question sighed and opened the door wider than before. He wore strange clothes she had never seen before, but he looked good in them. Although, he was a little thinner than she remembered...

And now she was getting distracted by useless thoughts.

"Sera, are you alright?"

Kael asked, now growing a little impatient that he was not getting any answers.

Elena blinked at him and then shook her head. Kael was still waiting for an answer from her, so she forced herself to give one.

"I am alright...I think. I am feeling a little confused at the moment, though."

She confessed, and Kael nodded, not thinking that anything was out of the ordinary.

Elena quickly noticed that there was a strained relationship between the body she was occupying and Kael. That likely meant that he would not trust her outright. So she decided to reveal who she was.

"Kael, it’s me—Elena. I am currently possessing this body, and I came here to help you."

Elena spilled the beans, and Kael’s expression went blank. She was suddenly struck with another fear.

’What if Kael does not remember who I am? What if this illusion is making him forget everything? How will I be able to help him?’

Elena was not sure she would be able to take it well. That’s why she kept looking at Kael, hoping he would not outright deny knowing her.

But his blank expression scared her.

’Hey, say something! Anything will do!’

She yelled in her mind but kept a calm expression on the outside so that she would not startle Kael.

Finally, Kael decided to reply to her after what felt like an eternity.

"This...doesn’t feel like it’s a trick of corruption. Then, are you really here? I won’t even ask you how you made that possible. I have a feeling I would be better off not knowing."

Kael told Elena with an expression of cautious trust, which she felt grateful for. Just the fact that he had not ignored her words made her feel like she had accomplished something.

"Don’t worry, Kael. I am here to help you out. Let’s find a way out of this situation together."
