Chapter 128: Ch 127: Violence is the only way

Sera looked taken aback by Kael’s offer, and for good reason. He had never suggested something like this to her before.

In fact, Kael had always been rather strict with Sera, and he had also encouraged her to maintain personal boundaries.

Any sharp person would suspect that Kael was up to something, but Sera was his patient. She was someone who was dependent on him, and she trusted his words. That was why she did not question him when he told her something this strange.

She simply decided to follow him outside.

The first thing Kael did was take Sera to a café. He ordered a coffee to help lower her guard.

Sera looked grateful to be able to spend time with him, which made him feel a little guilty. But he quickly recalled that this innocent-looking girl was also the source of his death...

And not just once at that.

Making Sera lower her guard was easy. Kael kept flashing her a smile, and Sera melted. She even followed him into an alley with her eyes shining.

"What are we doing here-"

The cold barrel of Kael’s gun was immediately pointed at Sera’s head, and her eyes widened.

"Doctor Kael-"

"Goodbye, Sera."

The gunshot rang out through the alley, but no one came to check on him. With this, Kael had successfully managed to prevent himself from dying.

He quickly cleaned up the evidence before leaving the scene of the crime and heading back home.

Would Sera’s body be discovered? Would it be linked to him? He did not know, nor did he care. All he wanted was for this day to be over.

"Am I free now-?"

Kael questioned, only for a truck to hit him from the side.

"Hehehehe."

The sound of mischievous laughter reached his ears, and Kael took in a sharp breath as he braced himself against the pain.

"Hey, someone got hit-!"

"We need help-!"

People started to gather around him, but Kael had no confidence that he would be saved.

He looked toward the alley where he had ended Sera’s life and noticed her lifeless body standing up and walking out with a smile on her face.

"Did you think it would be easy to get rid of me? I love you more than anyone else ever will. So stay with me here for an eternity."

Sera’s voice started to echo around Kael, making his head hurt. He felt like he was being pressured to follow Sera’s will.

The corruption covered Sera’s form as it reached for Kael. He was dying, but his instincts were still sharp. And those instincts warned him not to let the corruption touch him.

So Kael decided to struggle and bleed out before the corruption could reach him. It was the only way to ensure he made it out of here alive and got a second chance.

"Darling~ Don’t be afraid. Come, join us. I promise nothing will hurt you anymore."

Sera’s voice no longer sounded like her own. The corruption had fully taken over her form and started to mutate it.

"Tsk, do you think...I will...give in...?"

Kael asked as he felt the familiar sensation of his life leaving his body. He closed his eyes and surrendered to death before the corruption could get to him...

And just like that, he opened his eyes on the morning of the day he was supposed to die.

"Well, fuck! This is as bad as things can get. I’ve tried killing Sera and avoiding her. But nothing works. Is there even a way out of this situation?"

Kael could safely assume at this point that he would not be able to break this magic from the inside. It meant that it was up to Elena to save him.

But would she be able to do anything in her current condition?

"Well, I think I can hold on for a little longer and give Elena a chance. But if worse comes to worst, I will just sacrifice my magic core and break free. Being crippled would be much better than becoming the corruption’s puppet."

__________

"What do you think, Seraphina? Can you break the magic?"

Leon asked the Saintess, but Seraphina had a doubtful look on her face.

"It’s not that I cannot break the spell, but that it won’t help even if I do. I cannot sense Kael’s consciousness anywhere with my power. Darn it! If only I had more experience-"

Seraphina cursed under her breath as despair began to claw at her throat.

She knew that cursing herself would not solve anything, but she still could not help doing it anyway.

A part of her wanted to ask her ’other self’ for help, but that side had fallen suspiciously quiet.

"Darn it! So even you cannot help Kael? Then do we truly have no choice but to ask Selene Asterveil for help?"

Leon questioned, but no one said anything.

The situation looked grim, and then Kael started to groan, almost as if he were in pain.

"Teacher, are you alright?"

Seraphina was the closest to Kael, so she quickly asked him. But he did not reply to her. His eyelids fluttered, and he gasped in pain before falling quiet.

He was not even breathing.

"What happened? Is he dead?"

Iris asked, and Seraphina immediately started channeling her magic into Kael in order to save him. But she could tell that it was of no use.

Kael was officially dead again, and this time, there did not seem to be any way to save him.

"What do we do? What do we do now?"

Iris questioned again and again, panicking in the process.

But there were two people who remained calm even during such a crisis.

"Don’t worry. Kael is not dead...yet. I can still sense his presence-"

Elena did not even finish her words when Kael started to breathe again. He took in a deep breath that looked almost painful, but at least he was breathing again.

"W-What just happened?"

Seraphina asked, and Elena bit her lip before answering.

"Kael...must have died in his subconscious. I cannot guarantee anything, but that’s what my subconscious tells me. And if that’s the case...I might be able to reach him."
