Chapter 123: Ch 122: Facing Elena - Part 2
"My subordinates told me that the attack on Kael was a combined effort, and they used special stones granted by other mages to render him unable to use magic for a few minutes. That’s how they were able to bring him down."
Lyra wanted to take her time explaining what had happened, but there was no time to spare.
The forest was no longer safe for them to roam.
Moreover, this power...it could only belong to one person.
"Luckily, I can still feel Kael’s life force, and I can show you the way to him. Follow me if you want to meet him."
Lyra took the initiative to lead them deeper into the destruction. The farther they went, the creepier the forest became.
"There is something touching me."
Iris complained and looked down, only to see that there was no one around her touching her.
And yet, the sensation of cold hands roaming over her body was vivid. She could feel it clearly even now...
"Don’t think about it too much. If you do, you likely won’t remain in the world of the living for long."
Leon warned her, but his warning was meant for everyone present. Fog was even beginning to settle around them, making it hard to see in front of them.
"Are you sure Kael is somewhere around here? His magic is much warmer..."

Doubt began to crawl into Seraphina’s mind, making her want to give up. But Leon instantly dug his nails into her wrist to bring her back.
"Just think about staying alive and nothing else. This is likely the last stretch before we reach our destination."
Leon warned as he finally started to see the outline of a village. It was covered by dark matter, which made his skin crawl.
Everyone’s instincts were on high alert, and they were being constantly warned of danger. That was why they were unable to react when real danger came their way.
Hands suddenly grabbed their legs, trying to drag them below the surface. Leon immediately stabbed his sword through the skeletons, and Iris kicked the ones holding her.
Lyra and Seraphina had a harder time due to their lack of physical strength. But they were finally able to use their magic to break free.
"Tsk."
That sound was barely audible, but Lyra’s sharp hearing picked it up, causing her to blast the empty space where she had heard it come from.
"Did you get them?"
Seraphina asked, only for her arm to be grabbed by a pair of cold hands. And this time, it was neither a misconception nor a skeleton that grabbed her.
Blue eyes flashed in front of her before her face was slammed into the ground. She tried to get up, but her energy was being drained away.
"D-Darn you...? Who are you-?"
She questioned and struggled to get up. Her anger increased, and the voice in the back of her mind grew louder.
’This bitch! Is she hoarding Kael’s attention? I won’t allow that! Hey, let me out. I will teach her a lesson-’
Seraphina flinched at the louder-than-normal voice, and the next second, incredible pain hit her head.
"Just go to sleep. Preferably permanently this time. Don’t worry, the others will join you soon."

...
Seraphina went down in an instant, and that raised the tension in the air.
While she was not the best fighter, Seraphina was their party’s healer and could generally hold her own in a fight.
"Don’t worry. She’s not dead...yet. Now, who would like to be next?"
A soft voice asked in a barely audible tone. But the speaker did not wait for an answer before choosing a target.
The necromancer rushed toward Leon, only to change her target at the last second and attack Iris. It took Iris by surprise, but it only took her a second to react and counter the necromancer.
"Elena, do you have Kael? Where is he right now?"
Leon questioned the necromancer, somehow recognizing her. And he was not the only one.
Iris had no idea why, but the blue-haired necromancer in front of her looked familiar. Memories flashed through her mind, but none of them were memories she had ever lived.
’These memories...’
Elena took advantage of Iris’s distraction and threw her toward Lyra.
The Demon Queen got out of the way in time but was instantly faced with dead soldiers all around her.
Leon finally joined the fight once he took down the enemies that were blocking his way. The dead bodies started to stir around him once more, but he used his aura to cut their connection with Elena.
Lyra also got rid of the people on her side, making it a one-versus-two battle.
"Now this is unfair. There are two of you and one of me. What shall I do now?"
Elena asked, but she did not look worried about her chances. Leon had a bad feeling about her lack of caution.
He carefully stepped forward, but he instantly felt large amounts of mana circulating beneath his feet.

"This is not a normal spell. There is too much mana. It will start suppressing our own soon. Just how many dead bodies did she use for it?"
Leon asked in an annoyed voice.
As the Hero, he should have been feeling sorry for the dead, but all he felt was irritation that he had to fight against Elena when she had an almost unlimited pool of resources.
"Hey Hero, I don’t like working with humans, but I am willing to make an exception for Kael’s sake. I will hold this spell back, but I won’t be able to move once I do. So make sure my efforts count."
Lyra’s words shocked Leon.
The proud and arrogant Demon Queen was telling Leon she was willing to cooperate with him? It seemed like the world was ending.
But at the same time, he could understand why she had decided to do this. It was all for Kael’s sake.
There was no need for communication between them anymore. Lyra’s magic entered Elena’s field, and their interference started to corrode the world around them. It was so intense that the earth itself was beginning to crack.
Leon ignored the vibrations around him and leapt toward Elena. She tried to get out of his way, but her own spell hindered her movement too much...
No, that was not it.
It was not that Elena could not move...but that she did not want to move.
She wanted Leon to stab her.
