Chapter 122: Ch 121: Facing Elena - Part 1

’Go ahead and do it! There is no one stopping you from obliterating this place. In fact, I doubt anyone would even be able to stop you.’

The voice whispered in Iris’s ears like a temptation she could not ignore. Her hands twitched as she tried her best to control herself. But the pained smile on her face was rather obvious.

The soldier who was telling Iris all this did not notice the subtle shift in her expression and continued to speak.

"Well, from what we know, Grand Master Kael was seen falling in that direction and was never heard from again. It has been a few days, but we did not even get time to check up on him because we were too busy...hey, where are you going?"

The soldier asked as she watched Iris stand up and walk away from her.

There was genuine confusion on the soldier’s face, which made Iris even angrier. She knew that she would end up doing something drastic if she did not leave this conversation right now.

"I am sorry, but I am not feeling well right now. I think I will go and rest."

Iris did not bother listening to anything else from this person. She was afraid she would make a stupid decision that would end these guilty people in an instant.

They all needed to suffer for what they made Kael go through, and she would make sure of that.

’We don’t have to be concerned about any of them anymore. Since we got what we needed from them, it’s time to make them all pay.’

Iris agreed with that voice inside her head. It was finally time to end this settlement...

But maybe she could wait a little longer. First, she would find Kael and make sure he was alright. And then she would destroy this settlement and everyone associated with it.

That would be the only thing that would make the rage inside her die down.

"S-Saintess Seraphina, I don’t think you should be out here. It is not safe for you..."

The general tried to reason with Seraphina, but she had long crossed the point of listening to him.

Instead, her attention was focused on the situation before her.

And it was truly a situation that required her attention because half of the forest looked like it had disappeared in a straight line.

The line of destruction continued past the forest and finally stopped at the nearby mountain, which had been obliterated halfway as well.

It was not a feat just anyone could accomplish.

"Hmm, this feels like something Kael is capable of doing. But was the situation that bad for him to use this much power? What did you all try to do to him?"

Leon’s eyes were dark as he asked this question. It was clear that he was not going to accept a half-baked answer from the general.

And yet, the general tried to make light of the situation.

"Oh, this? It was nothing important...there was a huge wave of corruption headed this way, but we could not stop it. Grand Master Kael must have taken care of it. But honestly, he should be a little more careful. He hit so many humans in the process..."

The general started to complain in order to gain a little sympathy, but he ended up cutting himself off as soon as he saw the expressions on the faces of those around him.

He realized that he was messing up by bringing up the Grand Master’s flaws.

"It looks like these people gave Teacher a hard time. I don’t think he would be happy to see you anytime soon. So why don’t you all head back now? We can go ahead from here ourselves."

Seraphina flashed the soldiers a smile, but no one missed the meaning behind her words.

She was telling them all to ’fuck off’ before she had to make them do it. But how could the temple’s soldiers obey her orders and leave her alone? It was their duty to protect her.

Their determination only served to worsen Seraphina’s mood. She was about to show them the taste of real misery when she suddenly felt her surroundings being swallowed by magic.

Leon, Iris, and a few others noticed it as well. But most people seemed unaware that they were even in danger until hands started to grab their legs and pull them down.

"W-What is going on...?"

A guard questioned, and then let out a scream as soon as he noticed that something had grabbed his legs.

This magic felt familiar, but Seraphina could not place where she had felt it before.

"This is...necromancy? But those cursed people are all dead. Is this the demons’ doing? Hurry, grab the Saintess and the hero and take them to safety..."

The general yelled, only to notice that the two he wanted to save (along with Iris) were not affected by this magic.

Only the soldiers were being dragged to their graves one by one.

And soon, the general was caught as well, causing him to look toward the Saintess and beg for help.

"P-Please help me out! I...I never wanted this war either. I was just following orders and-"

A hand clasped his mouth, and his screams were cut off.

The clearing that had been filled with soldiers was gone within seconds, and corruption started to rise from their corpses.

"Is this..."

"I can take care of it...I think..."

Sigh

"No, let me take care of it. We cannot afford for you to figure out your powers right now and be delayed in finding Kael. Why don’t the two of you catch the person tailing us?"

Leon asked as he gathered his sword aura and dug his sword into the ground. It caused a cleansing aura to spread, and the corruption that was devouring the land started to fade away.

Seraphina and Iris watched him for a few seconds before pointing their weapons toward the shadows where they could sense another presence.

But they did not have to wait long before a familiar face stepped out.

"Ugh, don’t point your weapons at me. I am here for the same purpose as all of you—to find Kael. And unlike you all, I have the full story of what happened to him as well."

Lyra was here, and she looked pissed.

She truly had a lot to say regarding this matter, and most of it was not positive.
