Chapter 120: Ch 119: Stopping the War

Seraphina’s order was followed by a deafening silence. Everyone looked at her as if she had lost her head.

But no one looked more shocked than the Cardinal. He looked like his life was flashing before his eyes.

Naturally, it did not take him long to start protesting.

"L-Lady Seraphina, please reconsider. You are far too young and don’t know-"

"First, it’s Saintess Seraphina, so call me by my proper title. And second, I believe you do not have the authority to tell me what I can and cannot do."

Seraphina had thought that it would be hard for her to confront Cardinal Flux, but this came surprisingly easily to her. It felt right for her to wield all this authority and command the Cardinal.

But Cardinal Flux had worked his whole life to gain his authority, and he had even waged this war for that purpose. He could not afford to lose years’ worth of work just because a clueless Saintess came and declared that she wanted to end it.

"Saintess Seraphina, I understand your concerns, and I do agree that war is generally bad. But we are up against demons. I am sure even you are not naïve enough to believe that they will stop this war just because we stopped it from our end?"

Cardinal Flux had a way with words. He would have convinced most people by saying these words.

But Seraphina was already tuning him out. She did not care about anything Cardinal Flux had to say.

Instead, she turned toward the guard and decided to convey her message to him.

"You, tell everyone that the war is over. If you don’t, then I will never set foot in the temple again."

It was an ultimatum, which made the guard panic. He gave Cardinal Flux a guilty look before he ran out.

The Cardinal did not even get to stop him before the man was gone.

Sigh

"Saintess Seraphina, since you are officially taking on the mantle of the Saintess, I will go and clear out a room for you. Your lessons will also officially start-"

"There is no need for that. Both Leon and I are going to visit the war-affected area and check up on the situation ourselves. Ah, I will also stay with Grand Master Kael. And before you say anything, I did read through all the official documents, and they do not say I have to stay in the temple."

The one who had told Seraphina about this rule was Leon. It was what convinced her that this was the right choice to make.

And based on the look Cardinal Flux was giving her, it seemed as if she was correct.

Cardinal Flux looked too flustered to move, and Leon signaled for Seraphina to take her leave before he recovered.

"Well then, I would like to take my leave now. I will likely see you during official summons."

Finally, this was over, and she could go and find Kael. The temple was no longer a concern at the moment.

While Seraphina dominated the temple, Lyra had her own task to finish. She quickly rushed past the barrier of her own castle, and the guards posted outside stopped her.

"Who are you, and what are you doing here? We will attack you if you do not answer us right now."

Their arrogance annoyed Lyra. What kind of foolish demon was unable to recognize their queen? No demon in their right mind would dare block her way.

’Those nobles must have taken some dimwit and made them guards. Well, it’s not like anyone with common sense would openly betray me. And those who do would likely hold my uncle responsible.’

Lyra was busy with her thoughts, and the guard did not like that. He took her silence as an admission of guilt and attacked her.

"In the name of the Demon Queen - die!"

It was far too easy to subdue the guard, and Lyra looked at his pathetic body lying on the ground.

These fools deserved to know who had beaten them up. But she did not want to let her uncle find out that she was back. So she decided to go with an alias.

"Hey, you asked me who I was, right? I am Kael’s pet...I mean, I am someone you should respect. Otherwise, you will be in a world of pain."

She quickly smacked the demon in the face to knock him out before she walked past the other unconscious bodies.

Lyra looked calm on the outside, but she was freaking out on the inside because of the small slip-up she made.

’Darn it! I slipped up and almost called myself Kael’s pet. Did I spend too long under the curse? I am a proud Demon Queen, not some human’s pet...’

She reasoned with herself, but the disgust she should have felt at these thoughts never came.

Instead, it almost felt natural to call herself Kael’s pet. It made her feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside and-

"I am losing my mind. I should go and get my throne back. Once I do that, I will throw my uncle in jail where he belongs. How dare he try to use me for his own purposes?"

Lyra complained, pushing the situation about Kael to the back of her mind. It was for the best if she did not dwell on it.

Her castle had not changed a bit since she was last here. Her uncle did not have enough power and authority to take it over.

Lyra slowly made her way to the throne room, where her uncle was talking with the army generals in her absence.

"-sacrifices. Our queen has gone missing, and it is all those humans’ fault. Let’s show them what we are made of during the next battle-"

Her uncle’s speech was filled with passion, and he was even using her name for the sake of his agenda. So Lyra decided to reward him...by smacking his face into the ground.

One second, her uncle was speaking, and the next he had been knocked out.

"Who are you? How dare you attack our lord? We will show you-"

"Ah, sure~ Go ahead and show me what you’ve got. That is, if you can."

Lyra declared, and the guards rushed toward her. She grabbed the first one and threw him toward the general, who looked too stunned to speak.

"Q-Queen Lyra...you are back? How and what-"

"That’s not important. Since I am back, I will give my first order to you all - stop this fight against the humans as soon as possible. It was my uncle’s agenda. And don’t worry about the humans. They will stop on their side as well. We have...decided to call a truce for now."
